Welcome to the blog regarding the progress of my Emperor's Children Millennial. This post will be regularly updated with the latest additions both in hobby and fluff terms.

Millennial:

1st Millennial, the Children of Europa

Leader(s):

Lord Commander Thrallas

Legion Champion Cadmus, also known as the Red Scorpion due to the lightning attacks he conducted in Mars during the Siege of Terra to disrupt the Warmaster's supply lines

Chaplain Culln

Background:

Terran born and descendant of an imperial allied noble family from the dried shores of the Mediterranean Sea, Cadmus, equerry to Legion Master Thrallas, was among the last Children of the Emperor when the III was reunited with its Primarch.

The discovery of the Phoenician filled the last 200 with hope; after a decade of attrition and survival soon their Legion would arise from its own ashes to revive the glory of Proxima and take its rightful place at the right hand of the Emperor.

Fulgrim and his progeny remained for some time in Chemos to reorganize the legion and integrate it with its new home planet inhabitants. During that period, Cadmus was instated as leader of the 34th millennial by Thrallas and given command over the new recruits that were arriving from Terra to replenish the Legion ranks now that it was possible again, whilst Thrallas himself gladly gave the mantle of the Legion’s leadership to its rightful owner.

With rapidly swelling numbers thanks to the influx of chemosian recruits and united by decree of the Emperor with the Luna Wolves, the Children of the Emperor took to the stars once more with faith in humanity's grandest endeavor and the part they would play in it.

Passed over by Fulgrim when he anointed Lord Commander Eidolon with the rank of Primus beyond all his peers, Thrallas was fast to quench the complaints of the few legionnaires that remembered or were present when he was commandeering the Legion. A new culture had been born and was being kindled amongst the Emperor’s Children, one that Thrallas was and would not be a part of.

Most of the new recruits were growing to be arrogant and condescending towards the rest of the legions, influenced by new legion leaders taken amongst the chemosian nobility. A schism was starting to grow between the legionnaires belonging to companies from the few brothers that remembered a legion without their father and those that were raised exclusively from Chemos.

As the Crusade progressed, Thrallas and Cadmus increasingly shared the thought that their brothers were losing sight of what meant to strive for perfection while knowing that, by definition, they would always fall short. For them, that quest was a constant reminder of their own fallibility, one that made them humble and willing to learn rather than proud and arrogant.

During the defense of Tranquility, that schism grew and started to separate them irrevocably from their brothers. Under the orders of the Lord Commander Primus Eidolon, the bulk of the III was deployed in the southern hemisphere of the planet, while Fulgrim parted with a small contingent of his Phoenix Terminators and his brother Horus to strike at the heart of the enemy forces.

The hubris that Eidolon displayed during the engagement, systematically underestimating the opposing forces and rushing to charge into their numbers without restraint, costed them the death of a full millennial of Terran born marines. In the epilogue of the defense of Proximity, the inability of Eidolon to own his mistakes and the efforts he placed to present the victory as a perfect operation had the best of Thrallas' temper.

After a heated discussion about the matter with the Phoenician himself, Fulgrim fell once more on the side of the men he had raised, all but exiling Thrallas to a distant campaign on the galactic fringe, to which Cadmus requested permission to aid in with his millennial, a petition that was gladly granted by Eidolon.

A decade later and without prior warning, Thrallas and Cadmus were summoned to Isstvan III but were unable to reach the rendezvous in time due to the distance of their position beyond the galactic border and strange tempests in the Warp that filled the fleet Navigators with strange dreams of a laughing god.

Finding the 17th millennial as the only active force in system, Thrallas and Cadmus led a small escort to parlay with Captain Tiberius and Chief Librarian Cyprian. Together they recovered the broken shell of a venerable Contemptor Dreadnought. Rylanor, ancient of rites of the III Legion and who had fought side by side with them before his fatal wounds had him interred in the ancient machine, told the last true sons of the Emperor of the extent of their Primarch's fall.

Both millennials understood that times had changed and, just like in the times of old during the Calamity and the Blight, the true Children of the Emperor, sons of old Europa, were on the brink of extinction. Fighting as a Legion wouls was no longer an option as there was no Legion left to be a part of.

Cadmus and Tiberius shook hands above the dead sands of Istvann III and parted ways, their forces turned into two lean, mobile contingents which would go on to harrow the traitors behind enemy lines, slowing their progress towards Terra.

They would only unite once more at the final Siege of Terra, where they played a crucial role by assaulting Mars with all the strength of their two millennials and some other loyalist brethren they had rescued from the clutches of the Warmaster during his Long March. Their objective: to break the supply lines from Mars that were so crucial in the traitor assault to the Throne World in order to buy some precious time for the I, VI and XIII Legions to arrive and sweep the rebels between their hammer and the anvil of Lord Dorn.

In one of the most heated confrontations of the harrowing of the Mars, Cadmus famously sent his Battle Barge plummeting towards the red surface of the planet where it collided against one of the traitor´s forges, using the wreck as a base of operations afterwards to assault the stronghold of Kelbor Hal, treacherous fabricator general of Mars. Knowing this was to be their last stand and with the intent of the 10th and 17th millennials to sacrifice themselves if it meant to take their enemies down with them, the combined force earned the moniker of the Red Sands Scorpions by their enemies.

Little is known on the final fate of the last true Emperor´s Children in Mars due to the Chaos that ensued the fall of Horus and the collapse of the traitor forces, but legend has the few survivors of the 10th and 17th retreated beyond the Ghoul Stars under the command of Legion Champion Culln to rebuild their Lost Legion and be ready to answer the call of the Emperor whenever he would be in need of his Children once more.

Purple Painting Recipe:

1. Prime black

2. Basecoat of Phoenician Purple + Abaddon Black (1:1)

3. Basecoat again with Phoenician Purple leaving the recesses and the counter-zenithal parts with the previous coat to give contrast in the shade

4. 'Sketch' where the highlights will be with Slaanesh Grey

5. Airbrush a very thin layer of Phoenician Purple to tie the colors together

6. Airbrush highlights following your previous sketch with Chemos Purple blending the areas with highlights with the rest of the armor

7. Airbrush a final gentle spot highlight with Chemos Purple + Slaanesh Grey (1:1)

8. Edge highlight with Slaanesh Grey

Gold Painting Recipe:

1. Basecoat with several thin layers of Retributor Armour

2. Generous filter of Reikland Fleshshade

3. Wash from the mid point to where you want shadows with Agrax Earthshade Gloss

4. Wash the recesses with Agrax Earthshade + Nuln Oil (1:1, non-gloss)

5. Pin wash the points of highest shade with Nuln Oil Gloss

6. Tidy the highlights with Retributor Armour diluted with Lahmian medium

7. Edge highlight with Liberator Gold

*The use of gloss and non gloss is to ensure that we finish with a nice shiny surface whilst allowing the non-gloss shades to get a better grip and therefore tint better the underlying color.

Thank you so much man! I´m very slow in painting them so I´m really stoked that I´m close to a viable Zone Mortalis force! just need to finish the HQ jetbikes and 18 tacticals!

I'd really appreciate input on the spot coloring with white and black. I was thinking of having the left squad with the legion symbol white and the right one black to avoid giving too much white to the minis. Thoughts?

Hey mate! How are you doing? Yeh, thought I might as well join the other biggest forum since the more inspiration you get the better!

And they´re coming! Just the golds left to go, and I managed to block them all yesterday save for the praetor body.

Thanks! It looks like a lot of work, but provides incredible results. The use of Slaanesh grey as an edge highlight is very inspired too. Nice!

I had a very similar idea for him, I know exactly what you mean about ornamentation, he is significantly less showy than the normal Phoenix Terminators. I considered a leg swap, but I didn't like the 'dry fit'.

I think the Phoenix Pauldrons would really bring it together. You should also give him a cloak

I do think white or silver as a spot colour would work, I've seen the inner leg panels painted that way to good effect. That's not to say he doesn't look great!!

You were right Eidolon, the pauldrons did bring him together. I'll finish first my command squad and tacticals before painting a cloak and trying it on. I also find that for some reason, painting the trim on the lower end of the chest in gold too made a hell of a difference.

I don't know if i'm losing my mind, but I can't find either Retributor Gold, or Celestant Gold anywhere! What paints are these? I've seen a spray version of Retributor, though i'm sure a paint must exist as I wouldn't know how would you apply that to your Terminator for example?

Thanks guys!

Here are the paint specific names Spangle:

Citadel Base: Retributor Armour

Citadel Layer: Liberator Gold (So sorry man, totally got the name confused. Auric Armor Gold would work too as an edge highlight).
