Blood Angel Flavor Discussions

With the faq out I guess it's now time to start looking forward to the nebulas campaign we're rumored to get sometime. That being said, I think it'd be fun to imagine ways we could get some uniqueness back into our chosen chapter. Just a fun discussion about things, old or new, that could happen.

 

For example, I would love for us to be the 'frag' chapter. DA are the plasma boys, Salamanders are out Flammer Template brethren, Vanilla rocks the grav, why couldn't we be frag? To me frag weapons seem to basically be shotguns on steroids. They get the job done up close and personal, in an extremely brutal and bloody manor. Add in the concept that BA are artificers of the highest caliber, and you have a wonderful dichotomy that perfectly exemplifies our chapter. Masterly crafted weapons that are works of art in and of themselves which brutally rip through and tear apart the enemies of the Imperium in a horrific shower of blood and gore. Could there be a better metaphor for the Sons of Sanguinius? With the Death Watch frag cannon as an example for the rules they'd have, I think it'd be easy enough to have rules for frag pistols, frag guns, frag cannons, and heavy frag cannons (for our tanks and dreadnoughts).

 

Anyways, that's just my first thought of something fun and fluffy that could give us some unique flavor. Not overpowered or overly wishlisty, just fun to imagine. What else is out there that could be fun and fluffy for us?

That'd be pretty cool. It makes me imagine green skins simply bursting apart as opposed to being burnt away by flamers.

 

Also, be it about flame weapons or assault cannons, this is just supposed to be about fun fluffy discussion, so come up with your own stuff and share it with us.

Fists also get access to the assault cannon in 30k.

 

I dunno. We get Angelus boltguns with their shatter shells, frag cannons. This might be our thing, like hell frost is a space wolf thing.

 

A template weapon had limited applications, though, so maybe that's why they had the option for a solid slug.

Frag Cannon Mortis Dreadnought? Just imagine drop podding four templates worth of rending death, it'd be unnecessarily over the top in the best way.

 

I'd actually quite like it if marines could carry the Astartes Grenade Launcher scout bikes get. Super useful weapon for assualt squads I'd have thought and would bolster the 'masters of short ranged firefights' thing. Would need some tweaks, though. 24" rapid fire isn't great. 12" relentless is better. Maybe swap Krak grenades for concussive ones, target suffers -1 weapon skill or is reduced to initative 1 if they fail a pinning test. Something like that so it can augment an assault.

 

Also Heavy Chainswords (AP 4 Str 5) and Eviscerators everywhere.

Fists also get access to the assault cannon in 30k.

Not to the level we do - they just get it on terminator squads.

Personally though, when I think BA, two images come to mind and the are both funnily enough summed up by the 30k Rites of War:

Day of Revelation

Angels of Fury depending upon high wielding the fire and the flame to exterminate all before them. None can stay thier wrath. They decimate all before them and none can best thier precision and ferocity.

Day of Sorrow

The Last Stand. No one will fight harder to the last man. With red-hot vengeance we will do our duty and when the odds seem insurmountable, we will still ensure the destruction of our foe, even if it means our own end.

Feed into those and you have a winner.

Game terms though?

  • Elites choice priests again, OR perhaps how an Ironhands detachment can take Extra Tech marines, we get extra priests per other HQ!
  • Some sort of fighter that uses frag rounds against the air and ground. Could double as a chaffe launcher sort of thing.
  • Whatever the cross between a land speeder storm and a Stormraven is. AV11 Transport for marines to deep strike on. Assault Vehicle. Potentially it is just a sort of harness for up to ten Jump Infantry that takes them into the atmosphere so they can all deep strike with precision together? It'll probably be shaped like wings, knowing GW.
  • Frag Cannon get infantry use and use on other vehicles (twin linked one on a Baal Pred please?)
  • Reclusiarch plz
  • Rhino with an assault ramp.

They must have really thought we were op in 5th and want to avoid that as much as possible while giving other marines all the stuff...

 

I would like gw to follow fw rules wise. Those types of rules charlo mentioned above already given by fw are better/fluffier than anything I think we've had in a long time.... So I'm with charlo on this!

But have you seen the Iron Hands formation?

 

Everyone within 12" of any independent character has a 5+ FNP. Essentially the entire army has it :(

Which makes me think of 2 reasons:

 

1. Gw hates BA ( I really really doubt this)

 

2. They think we are really good and giving us those types of benefits will put us over the top

 

I really see no other reasons why. Maybe a BA player really beeps beep up at the gw offices?

Hmm, the Smurfs put extra lascannons on a Land Raider, how about we put more assault cannons on one.

I see us as the Jump 'n Charge chapter.

 

My plan is to have my combat focused units as Blood Angels (the majority) and the shooty stuff as Imperial Fists allies (the support role).

 

A BA Devastator squad just doesn't feel right to me; I'm sure they'd rather drop the missile launcher, draw their combat knife, strap on a fallen brother's jump pack and CHARGE.

Hell, Quad Assault cannons in the sponsons, they can do it with heavy bolters!

Isn't the XII at least as good at CC?

 

As for favourite flavour, jumping and charging was how Ward drew me to the BA. I wish we could do an all jumpers army again (without sacrificing the benefits of detachments).

Nothing, but one suggestion does not invalidate all others. My favourite flavour was and is lots of jump infantry, but that does not mean I don't like vehicles to get CC units without jump packs to the enemy.

I was talking about 40K. Also 30K BA do not get the reliable assault cannons from 40K but fickle experimental assault cannons (I forgot the name of the pattern).
