Company D, 212th New Canaan Light Rifles

Recommended Posts

The Imperial world of New Canaan sits quietly in the far galactic south in the Segmentum Pacificus where it has been relatively peaceful, some would say tranquil (for an Imperial world) for most of it's history since being brough back into the Emperor's Light in ages long past (early in M32 to be precise.

New Canaan is primarily an agri-world and is somewhat known as being the breadbasket of the sector and enjoys a close proximity to both a Mechanicus forgeworld and the homeworld of a chapter of Adeptus Astartes known as The Sons of Thunder. The world is presided over by an Imperial Governor but the day-to-day affairs are handled by a parliament of sorts that is comprised of the world's noble families. The officer corps of New Canaan's PDF and Astra Militarum regiments tend to be drawn from these ranks of nobles while the rank and file troopers almost universally come from the rural farmlands and plantation complexes.

New Canaan has recently been tasked by the Departmento Munitorum with the first Founding of Imperial Guard regiments in nearly thirty years.

One of the regiments raised, partly to take advantage of the natives' proclivities for hunting and fieldcraft, is the 212th Light Rifles Regiment.

Company D of the 212th New Canaan Light Rifles Regiment of the Astra Militarum is also known, in the old military nomenclature of New Canaan, as "Dog Company" and the company takes no small amount of ridicule and ribbing (some of it even good-natured) by the other units in the newly-raised regiment.

This is the story of Dog Company.

So yes. This is my new plog. I intend on sticking with it as long as I can this time.

We'll be starting off with pics of the Company's Senior Officer and his currently unpainted Command Squad.

Forgive the poor pictures, as I'm still finding my way around the digital camera I've owned for nearly ten years.

Anyway, to start, is the Company Commander:

Up next we have the CCS:

Then we have Fifi, the Company Mascot (you can't have Dog Company without an actual dog, can you?):

Then we have a closer look at Color Sergeant Dupp. First name Jack. Also known as "Mess":

And finally we have a test mini of sorts, as I'm thinking I'm going to denote which platoon a unit is from by different colored bands on the left shoulder pad... like so:

So, yes. Comments, questions, general advice and all that stuff will be appreciated!

Cheers, guys!

Thank you Comrade WarriorFish for taking the time to comment.

Glad you like the colored stripe idea.

Anyway, I have well over 100 Guardsmen to work on, not counting the four command squads or the six heavy weapon squads... or the six blisters of Cadian Special Weapons troopers.

I also have twenty Guardsmen lined up to be shotgun-toting veterans, a ten-man (?) squad of Ratlings, three Ogryns, ten metal Kasrkin, Commisars, Ministorum priests I'll be making out of Empire Flagellants, and a single Leman Russ to build at the moment.

I'm looking at keeping the amount of armor small but I do want a squad or two of Sentinels.

Of all that, the only thing I have really planned is that one of the heavy weapons squads is going to be a mortar squad in honor of my friend Dave, who's in the Army and retiring next year. He's a mortar man in the 82nd Airborne so... one has to immortalize one's friends in plastic when one can, right?

Sadly the Wyvern has mostly usurped the mortar HWS but I still like to use mine occasionally as pretty cheap objective holders and they're good for harassment - there's nowhere to hide from barrage after all tongue.png Sentinels are a great kit and useful on the table top as a way to upset your opponent's plans and/or provide extra strategic options. Looks like you've quite a bit to keep yourself busy I'm looking forward to seeing your first squad finished smile.png

Oh, and it's Lord Commissar WarriorFish to you soldier - just so you know the commissariat only accepts penitence in the form of painted Guard models... laugh.pngmsn-wink.gif

Sounds like you've got a lot of work ahead of you mate. If you keep up the quality of your first couple of finished models it's gonna be an amazing looking force.  The company mascot is a cute idea, can she Look Out Sir your commander?

Not content to only post the medic, I also forced myself to paint Fifi and her little mound of skulls.

Again, I apologize for the poor quality of the pics, but I think you can see what I accomplished.

AS for Fifi... I was thinking 10 Wounds, Fear, and It Will Not Die.

I kid, of course.

Great choice of colour scheme on the dog thumbsup.gif

Wait, I think it has a proper name. Type? Breed? Dog paint? Something like that.

I used Google Image Search to bring up pictures of Jack Russel Terriers and had one on my monitor while I was painting the dog.

Scored a really cool Commissar off of eBay.

I don't know how old it is as I'd never seen it before and I already have a handful of Commissar models from second edition and third in my collection.

Anyway, here he is:

I'm kind of leaning toward making him a Lord Commissar at the moment.  He just looks a little more composed than most of my other models.

I thought I'd share some of the other awesome finds I've scored off of eBay.

Starting with some Rogue Trader-era Commissars...

http://i63.tinypic.com/2z9h1l2.jpg

all the extra arms for the old timers that came with them...

http://i65.tinypic.com/2z7hqtj.jpg

I also scored the classic I.G. Tank Crew models...

http://i66.tinypic.com/34y75a1.jpg

AND...

I scored a very old Imperial Navy Air Crewman from Forge World, too!

http://i66.tinypic.com/svrvd3.jpg

Now, aside from all that I have a pair of third ed Commissars that I'm planning on using as well as the old female commissar model from GW from... however long ago that came out.

The lady commissar will need a weapon swap as she's currently armed with a las-pistol (that's what she came with) so some minor alterations will be required.

To round out my Commissariat I do have a model of Gaunt from that set, too.

So, yeah. Painting has been a little slow of late thanks to the heatwave we've experienced and me running around like a madman trying to get things organized for the surgical procedure I'm having in roughly two weeks.

I hope to have more painted stuff to share soon. Maybe even in a few days/the weekend.

Just wanted to say a little something to let all my comrades in the glorious Imperial Guard know that I have not forsaken you.

I have recently undergone some surgery and sitting around painting is turning out to be problematic for now but I do fully intend to jump back into this plog with abandon as soon as I'm healthy enough for it.

I have so much work to do laying ahead of me.

Maybe next year I can get in on the ETL thingy.

Those threads have been very inspiring as well.
