Of Mods and Kangaroo Courts

Recommended Posts

Is covering up the misdeeds of a moderator official board policy, or is said mod deleting my posts or causing my posts to be deleted in a vain attempt to pretend it never happened?

Can I request a copy of the email that was sent to me 'explaining' my ban? Sadly I did not retain a copy.

Your posts are being removed because you are being a tool Res. I'm done parsing and playing nice at this point. You were suspended (not banned as you keep parroting) because you continuously break the rules.

You whine, troll, derail threads and generally make a mess of most threads you participate in. You attack your fellow posters and when you get called on it you then attack the mods who call you on it.

You hate it so much here by what you've said in the past, one wonders why you stay?

So, normally this is something done in private but since you want it this way, here it is. Your come to the Emperor talk.

Follow the rules and nothing will be done. Continue to break said rules and you will get your next warning. For you that would be a 30 day suspension. After that you will be banned - an actual banning and not the made up one you keep trumpeting. Personally I have no problem air locking trouble makers like yourself  well before a 5th strike, but we have to do things by the book around here after all.

Have a nice day.

*EDIT: BTW, I've received no PM from you since our last little chat. Are you instead referring to reports (which is something all together different)?*

I actually couldn't find this thread again after posting it and so I had assumed that it had been deleted.

Also, ban/suspension is semantics. IMO, if you can't post; you're banned. There was no deliberate attempt to make it seem worse from my end, I just call that a ban. Apologies for confusion.

The person you describe in your post does not sound like me. It sounds like how I used to be, back when I frequented the Blood Angels forum almost exclusively, but I haven't posted here like that in literally years, AFAIK, and my distinct lack of warnings or disciplinary action received between then and this thread becoming necessary supports that view, I think.

I like the BnC, but that doesn't mean I have to accept everything about it. My only issues in recent years have arisen because of what is, in my view, heavy-handed, inconsistent moderation not based on board-rules.

Again, I was initially in hot-water for posting 'p***ing' instead of pissing, which is apparently dodging the swear-filter. The swear-filter that still does not censor that word.

EDIT - So warning points expire, but my two bans from... three years ago? four? will forever count against me? That's an interesting policy. Do you know what they call courts that routinely admit so-called 'bad character' evidence?

EDIT 2 - I'd rather do this publicly, frankly. I'm big enough to accept criticism. Is the BnC?

Recently I haven't been the best to mods, but no offense Res, just the three posts I've seen today from you indicate that your attitude pretty well lines up with what he said. You don't handle it well at all, and it won't get you anywhere.

You can knowingly attempt to dodge the Swear Filter by self-censoring words that aren't directly filtered. It is silly to do so, but it is a rules violation. It tells you right in the rules not to replace letters with symbols. If any member doesn't want to run afoul of this rule, and others have doing the exact same thing, then simply don't replace letters with symbols and either use the :cuss emoticon, or let the Swear Filter do its job.

Your personal opinion on ban vs suspension is just that. Banned is permanent. You have never been banned. The definitions for the board are outlined directly in the rules.

Yes, I acknowledged that I wasn't 'banned' as that term is used here. Again, there's no intent to deceive.

Attempting to dodge the filter is an offence, despite you having no information of my intention and despite me not being allowed to speak in my defence? And this is not evidence of a kangaroo court how, exactly? If I put random asterisk in the middle of a normal word, which makes it look like a curse-word, is that an offence? You have no idea what I'm attempting to do there.

FWIW, I knew the word wasn't censored by the filter but I also know that many people, especially in the UK, consider it a curse-word so I self-censored in an attempt to avoid the heavy-handed moderation that posting an unpopular opinion always, always always brings and because the B&C is 'family-friendly' in that curiously American way where blood, guts, violence and sexualized content is fine, so long as no-one says naughty words.

I look forward to cramming as many curse-words as possible into my posts and seeing which ones are filtered. So long as there's no attempt to dodge the filter, the post is on-topic and is not ad hominen, that should be fine, right?

So no, there was no attempt to dodge the filter and no evidence at all to suggest there was. Ergo, given that the offence which I think I was suspended for (it's hard to be sure, the email I received was borderline illegible) did not occur, or in the alternative would not have occurred 'but for' an ultra vires action by a moderator, the warning points I received ought to be rescinded.

Similarly, the posts (one of which was mine) that were deleted this morning because a mod got salty that people were making fun of their hometown either did not break board rules or did so in some minor way and had been seen by other moderators (and possibly admins) without being removed.

I see mods post objectionable content a fair bit and nothing happens to them. One mod posted a flatout nasty, xenophobic remark about Russians - which another mod apparently thought was fine because they posted in the same thread later on - that was only removed after I pointed out the obvious double-standard.

I just want consistency across the board based on the actual rules not how some mod is feeling that day. This is not an attack on the BnC itself, it is a suggestion as to how things can be better.

EDIT - Technically, I 'dodged' the swear-filter in my previous post, per the BnC's strict-liability interpretaton of that offence, which I see now flies in the face of the wording of the rule.

Mods get coached regularly. 99% of mod decisions gets discussed in the mod areas. People make mistakes, they get coached, corrected and if necessary get called to eat crow.

You on the other hand. Well.....you carry the martyr complex pretty hard. Frankly I don't care anymore.

I'll spell it out real simple. Follow the rules. Post in a reasonable manner. Your fellow board members won't feel inclined to report you, which means the mods won't have to act on said reports. You won't get warnings and we won't have to decide if we are going to airlock you or not.

You don't have to like the rules or the mods or the B&C in general. But you are expected to follow the rules and behave yourself while you are here. When you don't, your fellow board members are going to let people know and it will be dealt with accordingly.
