Hi, I made my new IF army with Hammerfall Strike Force RoW. My main opponent player's army is Alpha Legion. He uses PotL and takes lots of Infiltrate+Marksman+Rhino HB Veterans, Cataphractii, and Seekers, and supports these with some backyard artillery units like Typhon, Scorpius, and Quad Mortars.

I wish split my army with two groups. One takes anvil role, and another takes hammer role with deep strike by RoW. I intended maintain frontline with Veteran squads and Heavy squad, and then drop the Siege Dreadnought in opponents backyard for diffuse opponent player's attention. And since second turn, drop Templars and Termies. Sigismund will joins Termies.

I'll be very appreciated for any advice.

The problem is, if your frenemy has lots of shooty, you are going to be waiting around for a turn of him blowing your termies off the board with that Typhon before you can charge into CC.

Question to anyone out there, how do reserves rolls work with units that have IC attached to them?

Couple of things, none of this is a personal attack against you just going to go through what I see as red flags in the most straightforward way possible

  • This rite of war is a trap
  • No Really This Rite of war is a Trap , It is not a good rite of war
  • 1345 points ( more than half your list ) start off the board aka at the mercy of reserve rolls  with no on board reserve manipulation note I am not counting the Leviathan in that total since that is coming in turn one via the pod.
  • Templar Brethren are insanely juicy targets for the Typhon  which will just about get its points back for removing one squad of them , with just a 6++ when not in  close combat they are probably dying horribly the turn they drop down ,as you wont be able to spread out from  the 7 inch blast template.
  • Templar Brethren with Melta bombs is a questionable upgrade
  • Your Terminators are wielding Unwieldy weapons I  dont see the grenade harness being terribly relevant
  • Your chainfist is on your Sargent who can be challenged out ( admittedly somewhat minimal an issue with Sigismund being in the unit.
  • Templar Brethren , without Sigismund in their unit , are not that great , sure they have a 2+/6++ (5++ in CC) but they are initative 4 still meaning folks will get to swing back , they also are only moving 6 inches and as before they are extremely easy to target and remove.
  • Your Veteran  Tacticals have no transports , so they effectively have to sit back somewhere or outflank onto the board and walk on ( which would bring you  to almost 1800 points in reserve )  They have good fire power being marksmen vets but they will be limited to the small area in  which they begin the game and again prey to shooting , with a single shell from the Typhon killing as many of them as it hits and wounds
  • The Heavy support squad is whatever , I  guess if you need to pop  flyers they will do the job , though at the same time , also easy prey for A Typhon  or just about any other shooting.
  • The Leviathan is set up fine.

So your main hope is that your leviathan comes down ,  and can get into close combat with the Typhon before it has decided to make a mockery of your standing forces who have no bunkers and any cover they take is getting ignored.  If your Leviathan  is somehow stopped or unable to do this , then you still have to make all your reserve rolls with no  reserve modifiers , then your units coming in from  reserve must survive a full round of inactivity just catching bullets.  This of course assumes no mishaps since you also have no scatter mitigation in the list.  Your Veteran Tacticals have to prey something starts close enough to them for them to be remotely relevant and they make up a sizeable chunk of points.  This list will disappoint you 8/10  times if you run it.

Much like in 40k  as much as people would loathe to admit it , deep striking stuff is not the best option for delivering assault based units , the dead time that allows your enemy to just dump fire into you  can  make it a tremendous waste of time and the danger of mishapping always exists.

Again  , none of t his is meant to be negative to your choice of models or how you want to play the game , but given the  opponent you have outlined , you will get smashed , like smashed hard.

For what it's worth, Templar brethren can run after deep strike to spread out a bit, but yeah, leave teleportation to the terminators.

Anyway, I don't think the Rite is a trap, you just need to deep strike small shooty units like veterans, seekers or terminators, rather than trying to Codex Daemons it by deep striking assault units.

i find that seekers with combi plas fit really well into this rite of war as it allows them to get close and unleash hell on the most dangerous unit on the board.

i once used seekers in a drop pod to kill horus on turn 1, so as long as you get good luck they will easily earn back their points

Yeah I think the rite isn't tooooo bad. I like the shooting unit idea for sure.

Remember, you don't need to deep strike everything either. It'll probably clean up in ZM (as it is supposed to!)

Sniper Vets with combi's can DS, as can Seekers and Terminators (who can get some shields to tank).

A fun combo would be a Vigilator with camo, as his Stealth will stack with the Shrouded for a minimum 4+ Cover in the open.

Add in a single podded Leviathan and you have a good, hardy turn 1 threat / distraction aswell.

By all means run it - but I think this is a List for Polux, not Sigismund.
