Holy crap, that's why that centurion looks so good - the MkIV helmet swap. I mean, he's also painted really well, and the base is simply fantastic - but that simple helmet swap is just inspired. It elevates the model from good-looking to holy crap I want to marry it. Ok well, at least have coffee with it. In any case. Consider the idea stolen, Brother Cam. thumbsup.gif

I'd say the color scheme of that same helmet - red and white in a sea of yellow - is also important in making the centurion look better.

1 done, 2 to go!

Heh, you made a centurion actually look good. I guess there's nothing a maximus helmet (and some good painting and color choosing) can't make better. biggrin.png

I dislike the original centurion heads and I want helmets on the whole army, so bare heads were not an option. When I were putting them together the MkIV helmet looked kinda small, but its supposed to be a marine inside there so I went with it anyway. I like how it turned out and its makes me happy that people agree with me on that point! happy.png And I consider the idea to be spread, not stolen, like the emperors light!

Thank you for the kind words about the colour scheme!

Some progress after a few days' hiatus and some sloooooooow painting today.

http://www.tvih.net/stuff/wh40k/bt-ironclad-wip.jpg

Now that the frag launcher attachment points are white, luckily the magnet attachment points are basically unnoticeable.

I'm a bit undecided on how to do the shoulders (including the extra shoulder plates that aren't in the picture). I was thinking of doing the extra plates in white, but that'd go a bit against his veteran status (fluff-wise Brecher is a sword brethren, oldest of the Crusade, interred in a rare Mark IV dreadnought chassis after being, as an Emperor's Champion, mortally wounded while single-handedly charging and then slaying a powerful xenos warlord while being surrounded by enemy forces, thus turning the tide of the battle and the whole campaign).

At a bit of an impasse. Need to find my airbrush to finish the Rhino and possibly LR, since the latter may end up CF after all as I ordered a Spartan Assault Tank for my BT. Brushing on the large event surfaces just doesn't seem to be working well enough, though I'm not convinced I can thin Necron Abyss enough either. Sucky situation, should've just vowed more infantry :P

I need to get some better pictures soon, but for now vow complete. Thankfully... I hate doing troops ;)

Extra hour today you say? Okay guess I'll finish up a vow.

Librarian with "floating" rocks... not too sure about the rocks, I suppose they look okay. I thought about doing a glow to them to show the warp powers effect, but I decided against it for now since it seemed like it would be a bit cartoon like.

Tactical squad with bolters and flamer, second half of my earlier squad with heavy bolter. This one features the squad banner and sergeant also plus they have a couple older mark bolters I had laying around. I figured after Armageddon they're going to be breaking out a couple older toys to use. Forgive this and the next couple pics, it's late and my lighting is not too good, I'll work on better pics of them soon.

New recruits, sniper scouts with cloaks. Pretty much out of the box stuff here just with a simple head swap. Not sold on the skin tones here, need to play around with dark tones and see if I can improve in the future.

Group shot. Hope everyone enjoys and thanks for looking.

It doesn't look like it - I really enjoyed looking at that awesmoe colour scheme. Thanks for reminding me of those older 2nd Ed. bolters! I have some still, and they're going to be used now :)

Done!

gallery_77133_11947_124035.jpg

Ok, so it took far longer than I thought, and then took me weeks to find time to upload the picture, but there he is! I'll try to get a better picture if and when I find time to get the proper camera out.

No more vows from me this time, but I'm glad I participated with this one (first time I've joined any of the B&C painting events) - it really did help keep me focused in my limited painting time.

as much as the model still leaves me cold that's a great paint job. well done.

liking the white on the grips, nice tone on the yellows and steel.

are those decals for numbers and icons? if not that's nice detail work too.

Guys... tabards add a lot of paint time to a model...

I swear half the time spent painting an initiate is spent on the tabard alone.

But... they look so good :)

Feth, I'm supposed to be on the other side!!! Scratch that last comment - may your swords rust to dust, and may your tabards be caught in those annoying swivelly doors at the entrance to supermarkets!

Thanks! Yeah, they're the forgeworld decals. I've been trying to improve my freehand recently, and I hand-painted all the heraldry on my knights, but the idea of painting the Fists icon on however many marines just didn't appeal (and it's really hard to correct mistakes on the metallic yellow!).

Boom! Second and final unit in my Fifth vow finished!

As always, more pics, of each individual miniature from multiple angles, can be found here in my WiP thread.

VIII Assault Biker Squad

Consisting mostly of relatively young astartes, VIII Assault Biker squad functions as Fifth Company's a shock assault unit. It is frequently deployed in missions where decisive blows to enemy elite units and armour is required. Consisting of relatively young Astartes, the unit has developed a friendly rivalry with VII Assault Biker squad, a sentiment that is encouraged by Sergeant Langsdov.
