Ok, how about:

Discovery: Primarch adapts to the terran Legion and becomes a siege master

Great Crusade: Primarch introduces powerful and wrecking psychic abilities to his Librarians, even makes use of some Infiltrators to spread chaos within the enemies ranks via rad weaponry and fire; pyromantic and mind powers sound fitting

Insurrection: Primarch discovers the connection between chaos and mankind, studies the lore of his homeworld and implements Wraith Hunters and so on, focusing on spiritual warfare to better face the demons, while become more ruthless in his siege warfare and eradicating everything rather than defeating his enemies

@Drak: Yeah, that's what I meant. At first just decoration, later on empowered tokens.

Funny thing is that I'm currently reading Angelus Exterminatus featuring Perturabo. That must be a sign. ^^

Concerning color scheme:

So it needs to be decided between number 4 and 7.

As I don't see a connection between them and blue, I would like to go with number 4 without the colored kneepad. msn-wink.gif

Hmm… not meaning to break anything there, but the premise that the traitors don't have a siegemaster is erroneous. Koschei is all about big guns (despite not wielding a single ranged weapon himself).

Given that I've written Kozja masterminding a siege, how did that not occur to me? Speaking of which I need your final thoughts on the story with the Warbringers and Bears

Ok....

heavy infantry tactics, covering infiltration, tactical squads, breacher squads and so on + destroyer squads & rad weapons ^^ (like Death Guard 2.0?)

There has to be a niche. :D

Destroyer squads amd destroyer psykers are the niche. And hello? Koschei is the lord of a zombiearmy later. Not the guuy who directs sieges. Only siege I can see is something similar to game of tgrones white walkers zombie army. They outrun the enemy

Kozja is another case, he is another fsction.

By the way: breachersquad equipped with rad weapons.
Assaultsquads equipped with rad grenades and radioactive cc weapons. Buahaahnaan

Call them children of the atom^^

Okay heres an idea:
Rather than being outright siege specialists, they excel at target elimination. So if they have something that they need killed, they will use whatever means possible to completely destroy it, and won't rest until it is done. So if it runs, they will pursue it to the ends of the earth, if it hides, they will find it, if it hunkers down inside a fortress, they WILL get in one way or another. This plays up the "hunter" theme, and sets them up rather nicely for being willing to go to extreme measures to eliminate Chaos.

Perfect I would say

Then add simply "Hunter" and "Predators" to the name list^^

Out of these, Striking Shadows sounds the best. Total Elimination legion takes from the Ghost Walkers and adds something that lacked.

Now I want to see the "Simply Predators" legion :P

I have to be honnest, I can't see where Voodoo witch doctors became wall breakers. However, the whole voodoo schtick (at least in pop culture) is to do with controlling people no? Could the legion's psykers be powerful telepaths who are adept at entering the minds of people. In sieges this could translate as they can force gate keepers to surrender, thus allowing the legion in.

What's more, the possibility of one of your squad mates being mind controlled by the enemy outside is likely to cause paranoia and terror.

Another way they could conduct sieges would be through infiltration rather then outright breaking the enemies walls.

TL;DR the nu-XXth could conduct sieges by breaking down defenses of the mind rather then physical defenses.

To sum it up,

it will become a Legion which purpose is to hunt down and eliminate specific targets, either single persons, fortresses, whatever

To accomplish this, they are using their Librarians to use mind tricks and pyromantic powers to break for example a city from within. Furthermore, Infiltrators are used to wreak havoc behind enemy lines to further demoralize them.

Combined with war chants, the situation gets out of control for their enemies, getting paranoid and demoralized. That is the moment, when infiltrators break the wall from within, allowing their brothers to enter.

During the Great Crusade and the Insurrection, their behavior changes. Where they first just hunted specific individuals or destroyed important military targets, destruction and elimination becomes the overall goal. This is due to the fact that they decided to extinguish mankind in order to defeat chaos. They get more radical and extreme until extermination is everything for them.

Concerning names:

Striking Shadows would fit their infiltrator theme and breaking walls from within

Predators would fit their overall theme of hunting and elimination

I believe that Predators might be the name to go with.

"General, the enemy Legion has stopped." "What? Where?" "Just right at the edge of our artilleries range." "What are they doing? What is their plan? Can you hear that? Is this a chant which is carried over by the wind? Cursed Astartes! YOU WILL NEVER BREAK US!" "Sir, is it true that the Predator Legion uses mind tricks on their enemies?" "Nonsense, those are just rumors. Don't you ever believe this kind of-"

*blam*

"Sometimes, you should believe these stories, mon." said the soldier - no - said Umonga, the Mindbreaker, High Shaman of the XXth Legiones Astartes, Predators, through the now mindless soldier

The wind kept on whispering the mighty chants of the Predators. Shortly after, the city of Kulvias Tertius had fallen

Glad to see you guys like the suggestion. In keeping with the single-minded elimination idea, I feel like they would make liberal use of Seeker squads. Which could also be a potential name idea, the ________ Seekers?

Digging the mind control concept, that would be quite the powerful weapon, and something that to my knowledge hasn't really been represented in 40k rules. Good luck balancing that!

Sounds good. Perhaps the legion was actually called "The Predator" by their foes during their first engagement, even before the city knew they were being besieged by a Legion: the chosen enemies just started fearing the "Monster in the Dark", the "Other", the "Thing that goes bump in the night" and gave all of those things the name "Predator". When they finally surrendered to the Imperium and the XXth legion took over the city, they took up the name for themselves.

You could have an modus operandi similar to an attack and when it kills the unit. It belongs to you. But of course something like that must have harsh drawbacks. Ao maybe if it fails it wounds the libarian? Or paralyzes him? Maybe it can only be used if the libarian didn't move? And the higher the ld the more difficult it gets. So maybe with ld 10 ot is impossible?

Or if it works the libarian is useless as long as the possessed unit lives as he cant control noth Bodies. So if someone shoots then on the libarian or attacks him in cc he is rendered helpless.

It was the day the larouze fell"

I honestly believe this legion could become VERY good friends with the eagle warriors, wich could lead to interesting results. I like it so far!

i also believe that:

Samedi should become the first captain and the master of the librarius/destroyer companies,

Why you ask me?

Well: Ogun is the african god of war and would be a very good name (bit changed ofcourse), but this would be interesting

A Yoruba Praise-Poem from Nigeria. Ogun is the God of iron and metallurgy. He is pictured as a blacksmith, but presides over every activity in which iron is used – hoes for cultivating, cutlasses for reaping, guns for hunting, cars for travelling, and so on. He therefore becomes the God of creativity and of harvesting, of hunting and of warfare, of invention and exploration and destruction.

He is a terrible but necessary God, presiding over the whole cycle of birth and death. This is why, in the Praise-Poem, he is described in a series of apparent contradictions. He kills indiscriminately (Lines 1-7), yet gives all his clothes to the beggars (Line 9). He is ‘the chief of robbers’ (Line 18) yet ‘will never allow his child to be punished’ (Line 35). If he is ‘a mad God’ (Line 29), this is only because life itself is mad. The only suitable prayer, then, is ‘Ogun, do not reject me’ (Line 36).

Ogun kills on the right and destroys on the right.
Ogun kills on the left and destroys on the left.
Ogun kills suddenly in the house and suddenly in the field.
Ogun kills the child with the iron with which it plays.
Ogun kills in silence.

Ogun kills the thief and the owner of stolen goods.
Ogun kills the owner of the house,
and paints the hearth with his blood.

Ogun is the forest god.
He gives all his clothes to the beggars.
He gives one to the woodcock – who dyes it in indigo.
He gives one to the coucal – who dyes it in camwood.
He gives one to the cattle egret – who leaves it white.

Ogun’s laughter is no joke.
His enemies scatter in all directions.
The butterflies do not have to see the leopard –
As soon as they smell his :cuss
They scatter in all directions!

Master of iron, chief of robbers,
You have water, but you bathe in blood.
The light shining in your face
Is not easy to behold:
Ogun, with the bloody cap,
Let me see the red of your eye.

Ogun is not like pounded yam:
Do you think you can knead him in your hand
And eat of him until you are satisfied?
Do you think Ogun is something you can throw into your cap
And walk away with it?

Ogun is a mad god
Who will ask questions after seven hundred and eighty years.
Ogun have pity on me:
Whether I can reply or whether I cannot reply:
Ogun don’t ask me anything!

The lion never allows anybody to play with his cub.
Ogun will never allow his child to be punished.
Ogun, do not reject me!
Does the woman who spins ever reject a spindle?
Does the woman who dyes ever reject a cloth?
Does the eye that sees ever reject a sight?
Ogun, do not reject me.

from Yoruba Poetry (1970),
ed. Professor Ulli Beier

No, haven't had the time to work on the Primarch as I'm the MoD today at work. ^^

*edit*

Thanks, AO. That's a good hint to start my research. ^^

Hope that I'm able to at least sum up all the glorious ideas here and do some research concerning voodoo and Zulu later on AND to put everything together in one word document to really work on it separately at home. msn-wink.gif

Possible unit names:

Overall name for Librarians: Spirit Walkers

Instead of Wraith Hunters  = Striking Shadows, former Librarians who blind themselves in order to gain spectral sight and using warp powers making them almost shadows of their former, proud self

Furies = Deathsworn, Legionnaires who can call upon the power of runes and tokens which were attached to their armor, in doing so, they become berserk, only if either they or the enemy is annihilated, they calm down to be reachable for their brothers again

Shadow Hunters for Seeker Squads??, Seeker Squads are used to infiltrate enemy lines, there, they wreak havoc and anarchy within their enemy, causing the loss of discipline, moral and structure in their foes

Concerning rules:

I have no freakin' clue about that. ^^

I can give you abilities and wargear but the exact rules are needed to be made by someone else. For example, I already posted the main weapon for the Primarch: a sword consisting of razor sharp bones, connected via a chain. They can be stuck together to form a normal sword or they can be loosed to become a deadly whip, called the Ancestors' Blade.

But if you emphasize the voodoo theme, then bondyé is the good god which would be the emperor and his sons are the loa, his servants. So every primarch is a loa with a special role and as xx primarcj is a predator it could either be congo savanne which would be a hint at the extermination of mankind or as death bringer it would be baron samedi. As destroyer it would be jean petro ( uncool name but he is the destroyer loa)

Oguon is also in the voodoo lore but there he is not a god.

Simbi Andezo (leave simbi away) is the one for sight beyond. Maybe that could fit above all others.

Baron Andezo Samedi?

Does a Primarch even have such a "normal" title?

hm..could be an ancient, delivered title resembling on his homeworld from one of their legends

After unifying Mardum, his people gave him the title of Baron as an indication for him to rule.

Baron Andezo Samedi,

the striking shadow, the death beyond sight, the last son, Baron of Mardum and the shattered worlds, the Alpha Predator

Damn...did I mentioned that I love you all for helping me in this? <3

Lol. Just now i had the exact same idea only" Samedi Andezo". Out of my head

Some ideas for legion symbol.
Hollow_Symbol.jpg
A tribal skull.
skull_blind.jpg
This guy has a Third eye. Here i would remove the eyesockets but place the symbol of an eye on his brow to show thst he is seeing.

blind_skull_4_by_jaztermareal-d6jkiox.jp as abase for drak to paint a proper symbol based on this. I lime the headform and the eyeless skull. Creepy as hell

jdc-skull-anim.gif

The wild card^^

We all promised to help you amd we had 1 year time. And as we are soon starting book 2 were the predators are inside, you will have enough stress^^
