Though it belongs to another project of mine, the chapter badge of the Phantom Blades might fit as well.

The skull resembling destruction and death, the blades stand for themselves and the line surrounding the skull could be a shield. ^^

Phantom Blades - chapter sigil

Otherwise something feline predator to resemble the African influence? Not a lion, but a panther?

You could incorporate Baron into his name by making Baron the title given to the ruler of his homeworld.

Concerning rules:

I have no freakin' clue about that. ^^

I can give you abilities and wargear but the exact rules are needed to be made by someone else. For example, I already posted the main weapon for the Primarch: a sword consisting of razor sharp bones, connected via a chain. They can be stuck together to form a normal sword or they can be loosed to become a deadly whip, called the Ancestors' Blade.

I'm always willing to help turn your ideas into a functioning ruleset. I suspect that others will also offer their help in this regard too, so don't worry too much about it. If you come up with ideas I suspect between us we'll give you at least 2-3 different ways of implementing them. I already have a couple ideas for the sword/whip as a dual profile weapon. :)

Baron comes from the french to mean Man-Servant. Perhaps could be an honorific self-imposed to honour the Emperor upon his initial discovery? Taking the title as a symbol of humility, perhaps?

I like the sound of the weapon. Very Soul Calibur-esque. In regards to rules, I can offer some pointers on balance and possible directions in which to take the game mechanics. I'm currently writing up a critique for Mikhael. Hopefully offer an alternative point of view :)

I'd just like to say, please try and be careful about becoming "the thing that goes bump in the night", and "predators", and being a legion which spends its time alone; that is very much the Drowned's territory when they were being written up into the storyline.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but Kelborn did you consider adding in sickle swords to the XXth? Just thinking of ways you could give them a distinctive feel and using sickle swords/mambele would be a cool way of doing it

Now to make a substantive post on this legion. I like the idea of the precised total annihilation concept as the framework of the legion since we already have a legion that specializes in fear tactics. The scorch earth tactics could easily lend the legion to fulfilling in the chemical specialists that we lost with the Ghost Walkers.

I'm not sure about the telepathy idea of controlling the enemy bit. I attempted to incorporate a rule similar to that in Alex in the early days and received a lot of negative feedback. Because one of Alex's and his librarians' tactics is to peer into the minds of the enemy for information and to persuade them to switch sides or undermine them somehow. It's one of the reasons that the Wardens can win so easily is because they often use telepathy to break the enemy's weakest, which breaks formations and cohesion.

As far as the anti-Chaos angle goes, here are my thoughts on the matter. While, yes, the Imperium on the whole is aware of daemons, only Icarion and his lieutenants are aware of the Chaos gods. Think of it as a tier system, divided between four classes of daemons and knowledge. Tier 1 are the grunts, the Bloodletters, the Daemonettes, etc. Everyone has some knowledge of them. Tier 2 are the mid-ranking daemons, the Beasts of Nurgle. During the Great Crusade, only a couple of instances were ever seen, so their knowledge is limited to the Legions, who typically see the worst of the battlefield. Tier 3 are the Heralds and the Daemon Princes. Outside of the Lightning Bearers, knowledge of this tier is purely theoretical and often assumed to be myth. Because while the Emperor has allowed some knowledge of Chaos in a parallel to a vaccine, he portrays them as weak and ineffectual. Tier 4 are the Chaos gods. Again, only the Emperor, Malcador, and Icarion alone know about them.

This is all to ask, why does the Primarch assume Humanity must die to stop Chaos?

Maybe he switches sides in the later years of the insurrection from loyalist to traitor. after he witness the chaos gods. Through the insurrectionists who are utterly corrupted. Counts one and one togheter now realizing what he saw his whole life through the spectral sight, that the daemons feed on human emotion and logic tells him that if there are no emotions left, the deamons will starve to death and ultimately the gods themselves. Bit as humans always provide emotions he concludes that humanity must die to save the universe from chaos.

He could have been chosen by the Cabal, provided they exist in this universe, like they chose Alpharius & Omegon in the novel Legion.

Well well well....

Telepathy idea:

I believe that giving this ability to a wider group of Librarians *cough* sorry, Spirit Walkers, would be too imbalanced. Instead of this, it can be a special ability of the chief Spirit Walker. Only he can use this ability and it condemns him to be immobile and unprotected as his spirit is leaving his body. He needs to be protected. Otherwise, ciao bella.

How does Andezo know about the dark gods?

I previously had the idea of the Cabal but had abandoned it. I cam up with the following:

Andezo does not know about the dark pantheon or demons at all. Well, at first...

On his homeworld of Mardum, he witnessed his people dying without any reason. No one could say what happened with them. They nearly just dropped dead. With his spectral sight he could see that the borders between warp and mortal realm are very thin on this world. He sensed / saw shadowy figures sucking the souls out of his people but he can't name them. He didn't knew what they are. The shamans of his tribe named them Wraiths, haunting ghosts of the dead who became bitter and therefore try to kill the living. Andezo adopted this belief. He is taught by the high shaman and learns the way of the Striking Shadow, a legendary warrior, who once rose from their people and was able to free them for nearly a century. Andezo was stronger, more powerful and more efficient than the last Striking Shadow, battling against the dreadful Wraiths until they were banished again. Through his actions and the subsequent unification of all tribes, which formerly had lived in fear, he could see their courage and strong unity were strengthening the borders, saving his world.

Years, decades, centuries later, he acknowledged that these Wraiths are on other planets as well. He understood that this other realm is the home of the creatures. There had to be a way to stop them. Through observing, engaging, discovering and to a slight degree studying ancient scrolls and the like, he had the theory that these Wraiths needed mankind. While fighting against Orks, no Wraith appeared although the worlds were unstable as well. While fighting Eldar, he saw that their souls were saved in small crystals. If it was out of fear because of the Wraiths, he does not know. But it could not be an accident. His last revelation came while fighting a possessed cult leader, an abomination arisen from the most horrific nightmares, called Alkaraxx the twice-born. While dueling, Alkaraxx spoke of Andezos futile attempt to stop his kind. There were so many souls to feast upon, he could never save all of them. His kind is the eternal hunger, mankind's just a herd to feast upon. As Andezo was able to defeat the begotten heretic and with his words in mind, he finally understood the connection between the Wraiths and mankind. Even worse, he concluded that, without man, the realm beyond could not exist. The Emperor must have known this, powerful as he was.

And with this revelation, he not only determined his final task in life, he lost his trust in the Emperor and further began to distrust everyone else. When Icarion rose to stand against the Emperor, Andezo finally saw a chance to defeat his old enemies. With a civil war of this size, he might have a chance to either act on his own and find another way or to extinguish mankind once and for all. The Wraiths are not allowed to exist any further. Sacrifices must be made...

Hmmm, that could work. In effect, Chaos is manipulating Andezo throughout his life by not revealing their true form.

So, does Andezo never compare his knowledge to the Imperium's knowledge of daemons?

Maybe he is blind to this? If the chaos gods influenced him the whoke time couldn't it be that they ahidted his focus to something else?

We are morally obliged to reference the "cold dark rain" line from Count Zero. Can we also get a Screaming Fist in there somewhere?

Keep the Predators, don#t let them spoil you^^.

I don't know  the refernces as well, but I am relatively sure, that those are movie quotes which you should translate into the legion using a latin translator. Special moves or units. Screaming Fists has a nice ring to it^^.

Thx to you guys i now have to sing "purple rain, purple rain...."

Get Neuromancer and Count Zero. They're not long books and you can get them cheaply on eBook. Screaming Fist is a military operation that has gone horribly wrong in the first book. I'm not about to take away the impact of that other line; it comes at the climax of Count Zero and gives me chills every time.

Has the colour scheme been decided?

Yep. It's number 4 without the colored knee-pad.

And thanks, will have a look on them. :)

As we got a Legion name and a color scheme, I'm still thinking about their badge. I still believe that the Phantom Blades' one could fit very well for them. In a new color of course as their power armor is dark. Would say, bone white for the badge could fit.

Just thought I'd drop this idea here for you to read Kelborn. Some discussion with Mikhal on one of his units gave some interesting ideas for a possible unit for your legion:

A Missile Launcher armed unit that comes gets Frag, Krak, Flakk, Rad and Phosphex ammo (or at least access to all of those). It could then have some little tweaks when using certain ammo types (say Banestrike on the Frag, Precision Shots on Krak?...) to make it different from other 'heavy' units. You could fluff them as a kind of Heavy Destroyer unit, for when absolutely everything has to die smile.png

Phantom Blades looks a bit piratical. Maybe look into African symbols for spirits and death (which should give you lots to play with). A side-on skull would help seperate them from the Grave Stalkers.
