Deathwatch plog [update 1750 pts army]- Vash -

Hello,

I was going to start an Ultra Marines army this autumn, focused a lot on First Company formation. But then Deathwatch came along, and as a former Grey Knight and Sisters of Battle player (inquisition) I could not pass this up to field the last of the three major "Inquisitions".

Since the Deathwatch Kill Team box isn't out yet, I rushed out and bought the Overkill game. Wanted the Genesteeler cult models for a long time, and now I have a reason to buy the box.

Excellent models with tons of details and "personality".

Assembled the models yesterday and sprayed them. And today I managed to paint two of them. Started out with the Ultra Marines, in honour of the first army I played when I stared 40k.

Now you have to excuse the shabby pictures, I have no light sources for picture taking at the moment. All I had was the roof lamp... But I could overcome most issues with the settings on the camera.

Also... as the pictures are "enlarged" compared to the real model it self, minor misstakes that doesn't show in real life is really noticeable on these pictures.

I'll be heading out for work over the next 4 days, and won't be able to paint during this time sad.png So the next guys have to wait for now...

Thanks all,

How do you rate the bases.. Tempted to do mine on these rather than urban cork ones

Was a bit disappointed in the 32mm bases. With so "much" space, little creativity was accomplished on these bases. The 25mm bases have more detail it feels like. 40mm are okey too.

But, overall, if you are lazy (as I am) they do the job.

Nice work on the Wolf's face and the vibrant yellow of his shoulder pad.

Face was really easy.

Ceramite white as base, followed up with a skin tone of your choice (in my case Eldar Flesh). The a shade/was of purple. Already here it looks done (if the shade settles correctly and the right amount). Retouch it with the skin tone of chosen choice, watered down.

Really like the vivid colours you have going there. Did you highlight these with Shadow Grey/The Fang? the black armour has a much deeper appearance which looks very cool thumbsup.gif

Nemac

Eshin grey followed by the Fenrisian Grey

Alright, I now wish you'd shaved his mohawk. I can't shake the feeling he'd look a lot like Trevor in GTA5, and that was one nut psycho! msn-wink.gif

Love the execution, thanks for sharing your recipe btw, it's been a while since I last tried painting any significant quantity of black and yours look ace.

Yah. That Mohawk is bugging me a bit too.

It's no secret really with the recipe, it's from GWs own instruction video :)

It's my first time in my 22 years in this game that I paint fully black models.

Ah Vash, great to see you in the Deathwatch... 2 weeks from now I'm sure you will have a fabulous fully painted DW force just like you did in the Ad Mech forum wub.png

* Gee if that Wolf DW is Trevor....Run away fast if your name is "Mr Raspberry Jam" laugh.png ...ohmy.png

Mithril

Stunning and quick work as always Vash = 2x thumbsup.gif

Haha. I'll do my best to get them up and running. But work prevents me from painting at the same speed as before. Also, these guys are full of neat details. Going to go much slower :(

But I will do what I can ;)

Been working a few days, so not much has been done. But now I had some time off, and started painting two more deatwatch members. almost done, just need the bases and final high lights.

But I aborted the painting for some kit bashing and assembling of the models I have and received from good friends.

Made 6 members of my 10 man Aquila team, warmed with stalker pattern boltguns (and boltgun if that will be viable). The last member is a Librarian.

The barrel of the boltguns has been extended with a barrel from the Skitarii Scicarian Infiltrators "uzi" pistol. One model has the carbine barrel... was a test model sadly enough. But once I get more "uzi's" I'll finish up the last three members and add the Librarian.

Otherwise the unit is pieced together from Deathwatch Kill team, Sternguard veterans, and Vanguards parts.

Random members in the second picture are put together in the same manner.

Awesome, I was thinking of using Sternguard with Deathwatch parts in my kill teams but was worried they looked too blingy compared to the basic badassery of the MK8 gear but yours look great - especially the Blood Angel! (I have some Sternguard to build, BA Tac squad and Vanguard with plenty of Deathwatch pads!)

Thanks.

The blood angel is one of my favourites too. A friend of mine was a dedicated BA player and had a lot to donate. Wish I took some more :D But then it would just end up being a BA First company :D

Very nicely done Vash! Can't wait to see the team all painted up

I can't wait until Saturday when they release the Vereran box and I can start my own force - I managed to get Artemis off eBay for £8 with no P&P - Result!

Good inspiration for our own Kill Teams, I'd say! Really working that "individual" flavor here. happy.png

Yah, trying to catch some personality on them. The Overkill models are really inspiring to create som "characters" of them all.

And some allies, Militarum Tempestus. Slightly changed though... just a helmet swap. Thought that medieval armour looked ok with the helmet from the Skitarii Vanguards.

The Vanguard heads fit perfectly. Not green stuff needed. The new kits are built to fit with each other.

The assault cannon terminator has an old Deathwatch shoulder pad. One that is included with the terminators.

Epic! Now to buy a crap load more Scions who will work as Scions or Grenadiers in my Ultramar Militia!

Been busy assembling the models I have. At the moment the force is 80% complete, only need 7 more veterans and 2 librarians. Then I am good to go for a test game.

Anyhow, here are two more members (from the Overkill box).
