Still not a good level, but something I am more happy with

Yes, I still have to do the bases

Hi!

While tring to kill time waiting for Etl's results, let me show you some results of the Etl

Here on B&C you may find all kinds of marvelous armies, with legendary background, incredible conversions and unbelievable paint jobs.

I, for a change, will offer you a journey into a sonic weapons / bikers heavy army who at best goes for a little more then 6 and half out of ten in all the previously nominated fields. Which, by the way, is thematically appropriate (Slaanesh) as the vote should be near 6,666666666666...etc ^^

So, (not so well taken, better to come) pics first!

gallery_92981_12014_1127990.jpg

gallery_92981_12014_1608459.jpg

gallery_92981_12014_527697.jpg

Most of the army (everything excluded the actual noise marines, the hellbrute and a couple of characters) was unpainted or even unconstructed before this year ETL (Thank you Semper, and all of you(and my wife), wonderful event!)

A bit of background

Long story short, they are posers. Nobody knows exactly how it started, but a chaos lord was a freaky fan of Fulgrim and had an obsession for sonic weaponry, even if he was not a part of the original Emperor's Children legion. So he simply sought after renegades warriors and the equipment and implants of fallen noise marines to make the warband of his dreams. More concerned with finding the perfect and loudest sound of the galaxy then to seek victory or glory he eventually became a spawn (included in the army, guess which one!).

His successor was only a bit smarter, but the warband was to crumble if not for a Sorcerer (without the mark of Slaanesh) that now subtlety manipulates the new lord into doing his bidding.

More story to follow

And now...modeling problems:

HOW SHOULD I BASE THEM??

(options are red sand, putty heavy/demonic flash bases or...well, any suggestions? What goes with pink?)

Nice colour on these guys!

As for the bases, I'd go for creepy fleshy bases, but perhaps in some bright unnatural colours that will contrast with that of the armour?

Thanks for the suggestions!

Maybe I can combine some red sand with putty and the special "creepy mutated flash" recipe I managed to found during this project!

it's vallejo death flash (if i remind correctly) and Citadel Druchii Violet Shade

the mixture in action with my custom obliterators flash

20160815 110640

20160815 110316

20160815 110232

(more on them later)

another example and maybe more close to the desired result as fumes and mutations on one of the biker sorcerers; unfortunately no good pics of that yet

I think it worked good as mutated flash, it gives me a strange, almost shivering feeling. I would really like the "as we advance the terrain itself mutate feel!

Suggestion on this topic are very welcome

Smexy. One more of us, one less of them.

I would recommend a fairly neutral grey base, so as not to draw attention away from or to clash with your pinkments.

EDIT - I wonder if you would do me a favour, old love? How tall/wide is the Hellflayer, not counting the Exalted Alluress or her weapons?

I plan my armies before I buy them, which includes planning storage/transport, so I need to know how many Hellflayers I can fit into a 12x15" foam tray and what depth that tray needs to be.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Seems a sensible response, still I'm tempted...Maybe neutral base with some flashy bits...I love mutated flashy bits as the next slaaneshi

Sure, as soon as I can I will give you all your precious measurements (cm or inches?).  I must mention the model itself can be easy magnetized to split in 2 (2 steeds per part, unfortunately, maybe better to keep it all together)

Well, on a only slightly related topic, let's talk about the Helldrake!

my approach

20160815 112300

Bat-Drake! O maybe more Hell-Bat! Or maybe "Love son of Bruce Wayne, a proper Helldrake and a Noise Marine"

So, I guessed the original model was pretty ok (yeah, I have easy going tastes) but when I finally started to work with it i discover that

1) the hollow body is't great but I can live with that

2) It fitted very well with the Zombie Dragon Bat head and his screaming pose/theme (but I don't like that tongue)

3) It's a shameful waste of great bits!

The claws and the small back legs can have a lot of better uses then disappear in the model; much more if you take account that, when you finally notice the small back legs, it suddenly becomes a turtle with an iron delta-plane implant...

The talons on the wings are easily unnoticed...again for the better, as they seem to suffer from a bit of "Tyrannosaurus syndrome" themselves.

So I go for a "minimal" approach; my Helldrake is a screaming bat, and I think it has the good line of the dragon without its awkward parts
Also fits with the army noise weaponry and so Slaanesh^^

What do you think?

(better pics soon)

Grazie mille.

Either cm or inches is fine.

My dudes are purple, but you can see how grey bases look with them in my WIP thread. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/324026-the-fall-of-kronstaat-iv-armies-on-parade/

It doesn't compete and nicely contrasts, IMO. My dudes are also quite dark, so it brightens the whole thing up a bit.

@Res Ipsa Loquitur: first thing, the hellflayer measurements are

18 cm long (including the steed's tongue)()

16 cm large (including the blades, around 12 without them)(6.2")

7 cm high (not including the passenger)(2.5")

make it 19x17x8 to be sure

rest later

Ooooook, it's been a long day^^

About the bases, I'm still undecided... I discovered that the Genova GW store will host an "Armies on Parade" so maybe I can get a goo idea for a display base and the relative models bases....

I like the footprints idea, but skill requirement for a good result scare me a bit

I have some pics of the HellBat as requested, Master Kierdale (yes, I'm a fan, yes also for the spawns, no I don't want to remember, yes I'm remembering and yes now I'm freaked out)

Quality is as bad as could be, still bearable as I followed some tips from your thread on photos from mobile

here they are

The terrorgeist head fits nicely into the Helldrake body and blends well with the back spine

20160822 205552

The demon flesh is the mixture I talk about before (Vallejo death flash and Citadel Druchii Violet Shade), like it^^;;
Hey, the legs are missing! Did you notice? I almost didn't an surely don't miss them
gallery_92981_12325_1049540.jpg
I reversed the last segment of the wings, to made the already impressive original silhouette a bit more...original?

As requested from Dragonlover, who also got a preview...

(Gods, he really deserves better pictures)

gallery_92981_12326_547721.jpg

Actually, this one is not so bad

Conversion itself and paintjob could have been better, but I kinda like him.

The idea started obvioulsy from DoomRider(!!!), expecially this

b6348219651f73c9ee010be50843adbe.jpg

I needed some Biker Sorcerers for a sweet cabal, so the idea almost came naturally

Then I suddenly thought about rearing up the bike

The brazier idea came up after I suddenly remembered a Rammstein concert my wife brought me to... (that gave me a lifetime of flame related 40k conversion ideas)

the head I found was good but i needed a more Caotic look, so i added the horn-mutation

Cape was mandatory.

that leaved me with the weapon...I wanted some hybrid between a staff and an axe, so I did this

gallery_92981_12326_249498.jpg

Seemed "Emperor's Children" enough ^^

gallery_92981_12326_314196.jpg

gallery_92981_12326_663242.jpg(maybe too close)

Overall I'm really happy with him...except for....the "feet of shame"

gallery_92981_12326_526485.jpg

I really should not show this pic, but maybe you can suggest a fix.

Obviously I carefully planned legs reposition, posing with bluetac and so on...then, when time of the glue came this happened!

A small shift in position made the mess

So, conversion doctors, the least messy solution is?

Legs and claws are very good bits, should look good for a hellbrute, but I guess the best use is on a Knight.

For now i will simply hoard them, and look around for inspiration (maybe B&C galleries would help:wink: )

I hope self WIP post necromancy is not against forum rules^^;;

Looong time not active in the hobby...well, I have done something, but now I want to show you my (not) awesome last titanic creation work... 3 miniatures!!

I was playing around some "Slaanesh terminators gladiators". Not the Khorne guys, who just want blood mixed with sand, but some real artists who prioritize on set a good show

I had the AoS base set and some eldar/necrons/chaos scraps, plus some "high value" bits...

so

20171208 035512

The first one is your average 10k years veteran, with a prosthetic hand in a lovely "Verso Pollice" gesture (yes, the hollywood movies one, I know it's not historically accurate^^)

20171208 035717

The other is my favorite, because of the mace, probably

20171208 035817

The third one is in a "Cheer the audience" pose

I'm currently painting them (no less!) so here's a WIP shot (awful quality as usual)

 Hope you like them

  • 1 month later...

After EtL my desire to convert brought me to Chaos again... (I will go back to my Knight someday... not now:sweat: )

I managed to revive/finish some conversions and create others for call of Chaos... I am painting them, but my need to convert more got in the way with a low blow... but let's start from the beginning...

Back when Dark Imperium came, I was amazed by Primaris bodies and started some conversions, creating some amazing Chaos champions/characters.

noise 1

Thanks Adrian Smith!! This is clearly very influenced by his 2003 Slaanesh marine drawing, hitted me as a ton of bricks back when codex 3.5 came, seeding in me, a tyranid player, the need to do a Slaaneshi army.  I effectively created an army only years after, around 2010, but in a way all started with that piece of art. (I am also really happy that I manage to see an Adrian Smith exposition this year at Lucca). So, in a way this is a tribute.
Body from a dark imperium primaris, the nice thing was to take a breastplate from Caos marines and cut the undersized abdomen. This way it was possible to create a greenstuff sightly deformed six pack. Ther rest is mostly a nice Kakophoni sonic weapon, a flagellant head with some cabling work and a beautiful Warp Talon arm; plastic glue formed by chance  a nice distorted effect that I decided to keep. Doom siren made with tyranid, Dark eldar and Primaris backpack bits is a nice complement, IMHO

On the topic of the Kakophoni I "sacrificed", I think the sonic weapons and the models are gorgeous (I brought them for that reason as I do not play Emperor's Children in 30K, nor plan to) but together the blaster covers too much the wielder. So my plan is to do a little "split the awesomeness to double it" or "Divide et Impera" if you prefer. It's a simple principle that I applied a lot in my conversion activity. Point is, sometimes you waste some great bits on a model you sometimes end up never noticing (for example the Helldrake claws, especially the back ones) so, for me, it is better to switch some parts to avoid any waste!

Mech 1

This Warp:cussh piratically shaped himself, as I do not precisely wanted that character from the start, simply a more heavily armored marine. Again, main body is Dark Imperium primaris, then I started to add bits of armor, the power fist, the things on the shoulders (they are actually fantasy/AoS bits.. a trophy to anyone who identify them correctly... )... then I came across the assault cannon (I think) ammo  trail and it was perfect as a loincloth! then I remembered of my helldrake... you can see from some poste up that i did not use the long neck... (actually I have few spares from a friend of mine that did some "Helldrake to Hellblade" conversions...more on that bits later  ) . The neck itself is a great model part, you can actually do a lot of great stuff if you cut it into pieces, getting cabling and armor! So came the idea of the skirt of armor (usually associated with samurai, but also popular in Europe during the plate golden age).
Then it was a patient work of adding bits... I can remember being very inspired by Kraut Scientist at that time, learning from him some lessons on "creative use of bits"! I tried to do that in my own style....
Then the I recovered the Talos "tentacles" from another conversion...I remember getting that talos for free from a pile of sprues my favorite game shop of the time... I have done so many conversions from that kit, and I'm still using it! Those Bio-mechanic looking tentacles are perfect for a Slaanesh maked warpsmith, also for their ...ahem... "intrusive" aesthetic
I was very unsure for the giant claw/thing but I decided to go over the top... 40k is for that, in a way! The head almost placed itself... it is not too much ornamented but it was not needed, given the rest of the model, and it's also got the right "expression"!:biggrin.:

apostole 1

My Apostole is a strange beast... I intendet him to be a bigger possessed (before greater possessed where a thing!) but bit after bit he looked too "self conscious"... He had this aura of dark charisma an intelligence around him, as if it was mutated, yes, but still intelligent and commanding. So he was substantially promoted to Priest status. At this point I added a book and something between a great mace, a standard and a big chaos icon. Then I knew I needed a brazer! After some tries I realized that an upside-down loyalist helmet has just the right shape! After that I needed some big things to frame the face and the flame. The good thing with scale creep is that you can use vehicle parts on infantry models! So I have done so!
Many thanks again to dark imperium for the main body and to the awesome half price Fosaken box I found and compulsively bought years ago! Some words on that kit: they where heavy mutated fantasy chaos warriors that went out not so long before End of Times, where expensive (but see later) and disappeared very fast after the Old World got Kabooom. The box was expensive because it was really PACKED with beautiful mutations of all kinds, some also god specific; I guess it is really hard to find a box now, but if you manage and the price is south of 30 euros, my advice is to take it, if you even remotely play caos.
Back to the Apostole, I am really happy of how it turned out, and I have to paint it for Call of Caos, so, very soon. Problem is, it's very difficoult to find a good angle for a picture! Maybe will be better with paint on him.

noise squad 2

In this picture you can see 2 other conversions I am happy with: again dark imperium provided the bodies, and for the champion one Forsaken arm and the slaneeshi head, coupled with a chainsword where enough to create a mutated chaos duelist. the one on the right is my first attempt at primaris chaosifications.  Lots of details and some greenstuff work on legs, but in a way I can see my lack of experience in him

Excellent painting and conversions so far!

Thanks Kolgrim! I have still a lot of conversions (some even with paint on it!! ) to post about, but I will edit some old posts to talk about every project a bit before that!

I can tell you there is a project right now that is really distracting me from painting for Call of Caos... And I am already proud of that, could be my most daring conversion yet

Ok, Let's start with something more recent.

First of all, God(s?) bless Conquest. And yeah, most of all the first issue!

With my great love for Primaris bodies and my expertise with greenstuff and knife I am not an artist of any kind, butI started converting when most of miniatures were made of metal... Plastic is just like clay for me, it requires no effort to make a complex conversion or a radical cut. I am not bragging, what I really want to say is that, compared to saw white metal for half an hour, cutting large chunks of plastic requires no effort, more important no "mental effort". Knowing that I can cut something big in a pair of minutes leaves no time for second thoughts, and second thoughts are enemies of a good conversion.

Anyway, thanks to the Conquest first issue Sergeant I came up with this:

gallery_92981_15880_4800.jpeg

champion 1

Campeone fatto

gallery_92981_15880_46946.jpg

And I also painted him!

Edit: Happy to receive some Likes! Actually I have a bit of post partum depression about this guy:unsure.:. I do not know if the expression is internationally used, but describes the depression dome mothers feel after giving birth. It happens from time to time that I put a lot of effort in a miniature, then it came out well, but I simply cannot look at it for some time, because I see only the defects. I have learned to just leave the poor mini be for some days and then look at it again with more "objective" eyes:sweat: .

Anyway, It is still mostly the primaris sergeant from Conquest first issue! I keep the body, and the left arm, only trimmed a bit the left knee piece. The trimming did not went so well, but I manage to adjust it with paint. I will try to get better picture of him, in some way I never manage to get the right light.

Anyway I simply started to put together the easy to bild marine, than realized the helmet on his side could be a trophy from a killed enemy. So I started adding skulls, cutting the helmet and finding some good chanisword arm. Raptor's kit was handy, really beautiful bits there. I really liked the left arm and the pose, as if he was pointing the next enemy to challenge; it was time to choose the head!

I am a bit extreme when it comes to Slaaneshi marines (which in a way is very appropriate:biggrin.: ): they are either hideous disfigured/mutated monsters or they are beautiful. Bishonen, I would say (Pretty Marines?)! When it comes to monstrous faces, GW has you more than covered, but with beauty, not so much. Even loyalist faces are more in the Horus/Gulliman/Dorn (sometimes Russ or Alpharius, the opposte ends of the hair spectrum:biggrin.: ) kind of male beauty and less Sanguinius/Fulgrim (Blood Angels heads only sometimes help). And I also wanted some kind of smile; I opened a topic on how difficult is finding a smiling face is in the grim darkness of the far future! Someone can say "simply go third parts", but I really do not like it because it would be expensive in the long run and can rise some questions if I ever manage to get into "GW only" context. One of the main reason is also that I like to keep my conversions relatively cheap and GW only as a part of a self enforced limit/challenge and I love it. I prefer to invest my hobby money for the month to buy a huge discounted box as a "bits farm" than the last hotness. This is also how I manage to not buy myself a Lord Discordant jet:sweat: (But more on it later). Also I have a lot of bits. Like REALLY a lot. Like TOO MUCH:sweat: . So I love passing time searching in the stuff I already have:biggrin.: .

So, the lesson I have learned is... Look at Bloodbowl, then Necromunda! Be sure to look out for the scale, as, for example, the "Pro Elves" are not too short than a primaris, but it was their kit that provided the perfect long hair in the wind head and the relative (but faces are separated from rest of the head, that is really good from a converter point of view!) face with a cocky smile, no less!

I also really like the fact that the head seems a bit smaller that the armored body, which sounds reasonable to me!

Then I cut away half of the chest crest and added the "claw". I could have done more to smooth the greenstuff, but i was happy with how it looks a bit "off" an I will probably weather it a bit when I will do the base.

Then it was mostly random bits, for example the kneepad is a pro elf shoulder pad and the right sholder comes from the Forsaken kit I talked about in a previous post in this topic. I included a Dark eldar knife to this and some other marines conversion as I think of my dudes coming from a lot of "slaanesh worshipping brotherhoods", and the knives are a trademark object of one of those.

Then I needed a Doom Siren, as this guy can serve as a Noise champion (but I guess would be pretty cool as an Exalted too). I have discovered loyalist's backpack vents to be handy bits for this! I just needed something on top, so I put a Delaque gang (Necromunda) granade; seemed pretty random at first but turned on great!

Than it was time to paint! Nothing too exciting, except I went for zenithal priming and contrast! Some rubbish went in the way on the lower legs, but I think I will roll with it and "use it" as weathering ( In Italian we say "Fare di necessita' virtu'", that is "make virtue (goodness) out of necessity").

I went for purple hairs and various shade of purple/pink for the armor, then the mandatory gold. I painted the bit on top of the Doom Siren as vials, and also a bit I "forgot" near the trophies. You never have to much human distilled stimulants to inject! For this I used this effective tutorial with some more recent gem effect citadel colors.

It will not award me a Golden Demon but I think I will like him, after the "post partum" will fade

As you can see I love writing about my conversions, so ask me anything!

Wish I didn't run out of likes for the day! lol This is an awesome conversion, and excellent painting! Looking forward to seeing more things you create!

Great thanks, I always prefer a comment over a like:biggrin.:

I have undated the previous post with a lot of "bla bla" on how I did it, as I found it most useful/inspiring when done by more competent hobbyist (again, thanks Kraut Scientist:sweat: I am not a fan-girl, I swear:sweat: ...Maybe a little:wacko.: ). I am painting some conversions for call of caos, but I still have some picture to show...

Well I guess I can leave this here

executtioner 1

executtioner 3

executtioner 2

executtioner 4

This is my approach to the Master of execution.
Trash! In an "old school" way:wub:
So it's an old meets new: primaris body with old chaos warriors (you can also tell by the plastic color) head and arms
Those old ugly models where absolutely disproportionate, hands and heads where too big...luckily, as they seems ok for bigger nu marines bodies!

The greenstuff is a bit messy on pourpose and I will fix the chain when I will do the base. Still undecided on how to go for the pole, I was thinking about putting a Loyalist kebab, but I'm not so sure...

As I said it is a lot trash and lack of taste, and that is why I like him a lot. I will go with the primer soon, and it will be painted for the 15, as promised to the gods:sweat:
