[instead of Scion, how about 'Kendro'? Center in Greek is Kentro, while in Hindi is Kendr. So, 'Kendro'.]

A Strange Promotion

Colonel Georgios Karaiskos threw a quick, gloved salute as he marched toward the double doors. It was unnecessary for the tall, fit man to don his ceremonial uniform for this meeting, but he enjoyed every excuse to wear it. Meeting with his commanding officer was reason enough. The guards, in their olive green camoflage uniforms, lowered their hands before Karaiskos knocked on the doors with his augmetic arm. Karaiskos stared at the door with amber eyes, resisting the urge to scratch where his skin met with metal. An adjutant opened the door, saluted the colonel, and opened the door for him. Karaiskos removed his sea-blue officer's cap as he entered.

Rank had its privileges, and the general's office represented that saying perfectly. Although the campaign had lasted only a season, General Ioannidis had taken the effort to secure a local mansion to serve as his headquarters and personal quarters. Rich blue carpet provoked thoughts of the ocean, while repainted walls of light blue evoked the clear skies. A well-stocked bar of undoubtedly expensive liquor occupied one corner of the room, balanced by the general's personal library at the opposite corner. General Ioannidis, a short yet thin man, looked up from the book he was reading. "Karaiskos," he declared with a smile.

"General," Karaiskos answered with a last salute. "The withdrawal is well underway?"

"The machine is turning, and all that is left to do is wait for the gears to move. For now, at least," he answered as he put the book down. He slid a dataslate across the walnut-wood desk. "This is what brings you to be me this morning."

Karaiskos accepted the dataslate. He read the first line and paused. "From the Primarch's own hand?"

Ioannidis grinned. "Keep reading."

Karaiskos' eyes raced through the rest of the dispatch. The message detailed a promotion awaited the colonel. To full general. The command of an entire division dangled before him. Only a single condition stood between Karaiskos and the greatest move in his career.

Utterly baffled, he glanced up from the dataslate. "What's 'Yona'?"

His amused grin still in place, Ioannidis explained, "Apparently, the Lord Prime Minister isn't content with the speed of Delian unification. To rectify this, he is declaring the necessity for a new kind of division. One explicitly composed of Tyrins and Sindhuans." Ioannidis pointed at the data-slate. "And you now have the opportunity to become its first commanding officer."

Karaiskos paused as he thought about why he might have received the offer. Then his eyes drifted to his augmetic arm. The Delian divisions were relatively new units in the grand scheme of the Great Crusade. Less than a decade in service, the Delians units had relied heavily on cannibalizing the old nation-state armies before them in their initial debuts. Both Ioannidis and himself had been officers in the Hellasan Army before accepting new commands among the Tyrin Imperial regiments. With so few years to their new banners, the Delians were short on true heroes of the Great Crusade.

Karaiskos happened to be one of them.

"Do you know if I'll be able to select my own officers?"

"You will," Ioannidis affirmed. "At this stage, the Lord Prime Minister is choosing the division commanders and the overall commander. The condition to that is he will send you a list of recommended officers. Defy it at your discretion."

With a frown, Karaiskos redirected his attention back to the dataslate. He knew the next opportunity to be promoted could be a decade away. Generals, for better or for worse, did not die as quickly as line troopers. It wasn't that he was against working with the Sindhuans. When he had agreed to serve in the Imperial Army, Karaiskos had looked forward to a life exploring and taming the galaxy for humanity. He had no plans on returning to Delos or had wanted to spare another thought to old struggles.

Karaiskos turned his eyes upon Ioannidis. "Your thoughts, general?"

"Georgios, I think you're ready for division command. I'm not sure if VonSalim's idea will pan out, but the Emperor needs good generals. You'll be doing him and yourself a favor."

Skrimish at Ma'haten

During the late Great Crusade era, several Andolyn penal legions fought were being directed to the front lines in Segmentum Atlanticus, passing through a muster point at Ma'haten. The Andolyns hailed from a mix of the different factions, and their commanders did all they could to ensure they were kept segregated from each other. An Ork WAAAGH! counter-attack managed to bypass the front lines to strike at the Ma'haten system. In the ensuing confusion, contact was lost with several regiments, including multiple Andolyn penal legions...

Location - Hive World Ma'haten Prime (Under Ork occupation) - Hive Avle

Main Characters -

Commissar Andrew Bayly - Originally assigned to the 157th Andolyn Penal Regiment, Bayly finds himself in the unenviable position as the only form of Imperial discipline watching over the impromptu squad Mortay. Overwatching Soldatos from one faction is dangerous enough. To have all five together in one location is a recipe for disaster. Bayly often wonders who will kill him first: the Orks or the Soldatos.

Sergeant/Capo Jako "Hardline" Corliyons - By dint of fate, Jako is the highest ranking Andolyn, forcing him to lead squad Mortay. Hiding within an unassuming appearence is a fierce spirit that enabled Jako to climb up the ranks in so short a time. Yet, the current situation threatens to tear his resolve in two. Jako refuses to give the greenskins the pleasure of killing him, but he would love nothing more than to execute his current squadmates, who fail to match his high standards of honor. For now, survival takes precedent, but if the situation were ever to become too safe...

Gustavo "Thrones" Barzyn - Undoubtedly the richest member of Squad Mortay, Gustavo has poured no small part of his unmentioned fortune into his tools of war. As such, he, alone of Squad Mortay, enjoys carapace armour, a power sword, and a personal plasma pistol that should never have ended up in his hands. In this struggle for Ma'haten, Gustavo has one simple objective: survival. He doesn't care if it's with or without the rest of the squad, whatever price must be paid to ensure his safe exit, he will pay it. This pragmatic attitude had cause no small amount of frustration for him as he has sat back and watched the ganger rivalries of Andolyn boil and brew, threatening to spill over into a minitature ganger war that he has no time for.

Nunzia "Blaze" Kuneyo - Blaze may be Mortay's greatest danger. In an environment where stealth and cunning are needed to survive, Blaze has trouble not setting everything on fire. Infamous as an arson before he was forced into the penal legions, the only threat that has kept Blaze alive is the fact taht dying prevents seeing any more fires take life. Even outside his troublesome pyromania, Blaze is a loud personality, seemingly incapable of nuance. While the various gangers may have specific rivalries between each other, all of them keep one eye out on Blaze.

Finally noting this down so I don't need to keep retrieving the name: gonna devise some rules and weaponry for the Stymphala gunship. As the Arvus Lighter isn't all that hefty, this will be the Thunderhawk equivalent for mortal troops, used particularly heavily by the Zanskat Guard and Sermezan Harriers.

Now to decide whether to credit Hephaesta, Hatross, Iyacrax or Eskut with the design...
