Hey all!

I've been lurking for a while now, but I've decided to start my WiP thread.

Here' is a Khorne Chaos Lord. He's been basecoated at the moment, but nothing significant.

I've been working on converting some cultists for a while after seeing some fantastic Inq28 threads. Here's the first, a Slaaneshi champion based off of the cultist champion from Dark Vengeance. He's heavily WiP, but I like the look of him. I'm probably going to change the shotgun to something like a plasma pistol or bolt pistol.

Here's a Traitor Guardsman I converted quite a while ago. I changed his head recently, which makes him look a lot much better in my opinion. I need to change the bolter to a boltpistol or an autopistol, though.

Liking it so far but I agree you should change out that bolt gun for a las pistol at least. By the fluff standard basic humans shouldn't even be able to wield a bolter single handed, they should struggle just to lift and aim it. Not to mention unless he's an officer of some sort (depending on which rule set you use for him) a las pistol/auto pistol would fit more. I am really digging the DV cultist conversion though, well done!

Hey everybody!

I realise it's been a damned long while since I've posted, and my apologies. I've been busy with AoS and other projects, and my marines haven't captured my interest until now.

After a lot of thinking and procrastinating, I've decided to paint my Chaos space marines as Night Lords, mostly because I've finish ADB's excellent Night Lords trilogy and Prince of Crows, and boy they are amazingly well written.. The characters are splendid, some of the worst traits of humanity personified as superhuman demigods. Curze is also one of my favourite primarchs, a tortured god that loathes himself and the poison that has corrupted him and his legion.

Here are two models I've converted today, to be used as Berzerkers. I'll be using Nostraman chainglaives to represent chainaxes, but until I can get some it'll be chainswords and bolt pistols for now.
These are some of my favourite models I've converted, they just ooze character and they should look great when painted up.

(Do excuse the terrible pictures, I need to get a tripod and a lightbox soon.)

Here's a test model. Not entirely satisfied with him, the Drakenhof Nightshade wash has made the extreme drybrushi highlights really subtle.

Here's a Custodian, a test WiP for the rest of my Talons.

I've gone for a different look for my Custodes, modifying Amy Snuggs' excellent gold recipe on her Stormcast, which heavily utilises washes and ends up a fantastic weathered look. While most painted Custodes are bright and gleaming knights clad in gold, I chose to make them darker for two reasons. The first of which is that the Horus Heresy is the death of the Great Crusade, and by extension the death of the dream of humanity. It is an age bloody and brutal, where demigod fights demigod he once called brother in a conflict that spans the galaxy, a scale truly mind boggling. Hope died when the virus bombs fell upon Istvaan III, and to reflect that my 30k minis will be far darker in tone that my usual minis.

And the second reason is that I'm far too lazy to layer all of those metallic paints.  :P Well, enough of my endless rambling. Here is the first WiP Custodian in Squad Aman-Helios, Varna-Hyksosian.

The mini is darker in real life, but such are the downsides of using phone camera. I do endeavour to get my camera fixed, but it will be a fair while before that so I shall make do with this camera on my phone. (Which is not bad compared to other phone cameras, it is no comparison to a proper camera.)

That's all for now. Cheers! :)

Hey everybody,

I'm converting a Dark Angels champion as a gift to a friend, and I've written a bit of fluff for him.

From the land of sorrow,

Will you find a warrior bold.

A knight clad in black faith,

Armed with blade of shimmering gold.

Watch to the skies traitor and heretic ye,

Quake and tremble in fear.

Here comes forth Manakel,

Know peace in the kiss of his sword.

-A prophecy uttered by Librarian Ksenas Tyr of the Dark Angels, a few moments before his death.

I wanted to make him look suitably imposing as a master swordsman should be, so I went with plastic MKIII from the Burning of Prospero set to add bulk to his figure. I used bits from the ever useful Grey Knights Strike Squad kit for his helmet and sword hit, and bits from the Dark Angels Veteran kit for the blade of his sword, grenades, backpack (Not pictured, I'll be painting it separately.) and the shoulder pads. The blade at his side comes from the Empire state troops kit, which has quite a few bits that look very knightly. I'm at a choice for what hand to use for his outstretch right arm, a hand holding the head of a daemonette or a hand pointing forward.

I like the look of this, but there's also this hand to consider.

I like this as it looks like he's issuing a challenge to some vile xenos warlord or traitor marine, and fits his character. What do you guys think?

Feedback appreciated. :)

Hey all,

I've made a little objective marker for my Dark Angels that's still fairly WIP. The sprue bricks and banner are held together with blu-tack, while I glued on the dead Chaos marine a fair while ago. The base has been hanging around in my bits box for some time and I, wanting to give some more attention to my long neglected DA, made this objective marker for a bit of narrative fun. I will be adding pauldrons to the dead marine, and perhaps a few more bricks sunk in the earth.

This guy will be part of a squad that'll either be used as Fallen to be run along with my Night Lords, or as Legion of the Damned along with my Dark Angels. I've had the DV tacs on my painting desk for a very long time and got sick of seeing them in their unfinished state, so I painted a guy up as a test for a potential squad, which turned out well. What do y'all think?

Feedback appreciated. :)

Hey,

Here's the Custodian from a few posts earlier. He's still fairly WiP, but I'm pleased with how he's looking and I should be able to finish him soon.

20170630_204746.jpg?width=451&height=601

I've gone for a more muted red for the plume and loincloth to complement the dark gold of the Custodian's armour. I've also decided to paint the wings on his helm as white marble, to add some fanciness to him and also for consistency when I'm painting the black armoured Hetaerons.

As you can see, I've shamelessly stolen the idea of using GK swords from KrautScientist as they suit the elegant nature of the Custodes as well as being easier to paint. I'll be doing this for the rest of the army, bits sites and eBay willing.

As always, constructive criticism is appreciated. :smile.:

Hey,

I'll be painting up this Sons of Horus Praetor. Pose is more or less finalised, so tomorrow I'll pin his head and then I can get painting!

Helmed option:

Very cool conversions brother!

Thank you! :)

Taking a quick break from the Praetor to show this guy I threw together with some parts in my bits box.

I had plans to start an army of the Undead for Kings of War, but they never really materialised. In the course of buying stuff for the army, I did buy a pack of Undead Werewolves. The kit was pretty mediocre, and so it got tossed into my bits box after some struggling to try and make it look good.

I also had a box of Bloodletters that I didn't have any plans for, and so they stayed neglected along with the Werewolves until today. When I was playing around with some bits I got the idea to stick a Bloodletter head on a Werewolf body, and so I did. It didn't look all that bad, so I gave the guy a sword and he looks pretty darned good if I should say so myself.

This is just a loose mockup, though, and he'll probably know quite a few changes before he gets painted up.

CC appreciated. :)

The beast haunts the meadows,

Lord of predators he is,

Claws ivory stained crimson,

His maw drinks deep,

The Son comes in challenge,

His axe whirling,

Sea-green armour resplendent,

A clash titanic,

Amidst the groves and meadows,

The beast lays dead,

The Son triumphant.

Hey everybody,

A small update this time, I'm afraid. I've done some work on the cape on the Son of Horus, here it is.

Tried wet blending for the third time, and while I'm fairly pleased with the result I'd love to know what you guys think.  :)

Feedback appreciated.
