I was discussing how sadistically tiny the Cataphractii terminator helmet's eyes are with a friend of mine (who himself has over 40 to paint currently) so I took some photos to show him what I've done. I'm using the method recommended in the WarhammerTV Youtube series on painting ultramarines, ie. Wash lens with nuln oil during the armour shading stage then once dry paint a thin line of white across the middle of the lens and then apply bloodletter. For larger lenses like on power armoured marines, I repeat this once more which just deepens the red up and increases the contrast. It's much easier than painting the lens with red paint because you dont have to get right in the corners and any overpainting around the eye just gives a red glowing effect so it's a win win. Anyway. WIP Photos.

Even with this technique and a 000 size brush it was hard to get the white in the right place. The grey knight helmet I'm using for my Praetor is also one where I've had trouble in the past doing the eyes so I've included a pic of that for comparison. Once I get to the point where I'm doing decals on models, I'll put some gloss varnish over the lenses to finish the effect.

Dosjetka, I take it when I nail down a scheme for my Warborn they will be good to post here instead? I say that because thinking of moving the tactical squads into my Astral Claw force instead.

Yep, indeed. Warborn are fine, Astral Claws aren't (due to the unknown nature of their "ancestry").

richmarine: Can't wait to see those painted! :D

Harkus: Those look on point. :tu: And thanks for the eye lens tip!

They look excellent, Wulox. I'm curious to see how you manage the white armour.

Prot: Join us! We'd be glad to have you. :)

I don't want to a take up too much space in this thread of awesomeness, but I should explain I'm running and committed (3-4 units) to the Deathwatch painting contest or else I would commit as I'm rebuilding my Ultramarines starting with the Betrayal of Calth set (I think). We we see how my time shapes up. ;)

One detachment of Warborn coming up, as soon as my primer gets here...

So happy the B&C is back online! Managed to get a start on my terminator sergeant! http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y290/abadizzilithium/Mobile%20Uploads/sgthead.jpg

Heads done! Ill be slappin paint on his body tonight!

Love that skin, thats one thing I always struggle to paint!

And.... I've finally got my apothecary finished, he took way longer than I expected and he is still far from my best work. I was planning a DIY 40K marine army in white with the fluff of being my 30K ultras successor chapter but now I've painted this guy in white I'm going to go back to the drawing board for that one. tongue.png

Anyway here he is!

Some quality is lost in making the image smaller so heres a bigger version: http://i.imgur.com/SpEXCwD.jpg
And the whole kill-team complete:

So, that's my first vow complete, expect another one shortly. I do have a full 2000 point force basecoated in blue at the moment waiting for some more paint! tongue.png
Thank you for looking, James.

Sorry folks, I've been rather quiet since the board has been back online and even before it went offline. I've got to deal with in RL these couple of weeks or so. I'll try and get an update of the list in tonight but unfortunately there won't be much other participation on my part until Sunday at the earliest.

That said, I'm really impressed by the work and enthusiasm you chaps are generating! Keep it up! :tu:

Wulox: That Apothecary... How did you go about painting the white this time?

Great progress by all so far!

Just to show I have done something while the board has been down,

That's the blue on this one done asides from a few touch ups. Praise be to an xl base brush! Otherwise I'd probably only be on the second of 4 blue layers. Bikes are sprayed, 5 breachers are part built.

Excellent work Brothers! I'm itching to do some work on my Ultramarines looking at all the awesome minis you produce. :)

Unfortunately I'm in the middle of moving to a new apartment we bought with my fiancee so I'll start working on some models in a week or so. Until then I'll keep visiting this thread to fuel my inspiration. :)

I've made some progress on the scout speeder and Contemptors, going to be using them in a tournament this weekend actually :)

Kinda happy with how the mud effect turned out on his base

I wish I'd remembered to get my vow in on time. >_> As luck would have it, I've not really had much free time to work on it recently.

Just as a FYI: I've removed the "first vow pledged before x date" to allow anyone to jump into the challenge at any time (it lets abadizzle participate and likely fail tongue.png).

You have no excuses now. msn-wink.gif

I'm working on Ultramarine stuff but it hasn't anything to do with my vow. Typical. I'll try and get a start on my Tacticals this week though.

How are the rest of you getting along?

I've painted something blue. I'd post pictures but I think you guys can imagine ultramarines blue.

More progress, had to paint these guys in a hurry since I needed them for a tournament that was yesterday :D
They're all missing a lot of details and highlights and the bases need more work, but they're ready for the tabletop I guess.

As usual, I'm impressed by the progress people make in events like this. That it's progress from fellow Ultramarines is even better. Keep up the good work thumbsup.gif .

I started off really enthusiastically, then stalled when I started back at Uni (and trapped a nerve in the back of my neck). I'm settling in again now though so I should really start pushing myself to do a bit every day. There's always something else that needs doing though...

richmarine: Still better than what I've done so far. :P

derLumpi: Cool, looking forward to seeing what you have to show us! Have a safe flight back.

Aspecti: Those are already looking good even with zero highlights. Looking forward to seeing them after you go back and do whatever you still need to do!

Toxichobbit: Small steps every day is the way to go. I've also been lagging behind due to other stuff that needs doing but I need to sit down tonight and get the first Tactical Marines built. I've taken two days off work next week so I'll have at least three days during which I'll be assembling and painting like a madman to get the first lot of models done! But yeah, even if you don't have the same opportunity, a little every day will help you get there in the end. :tu:

Time for a second vow I think! Nothing too fancy this time, just finishing off my tacticals. Already painted 5 so it leaves 15 to do!

I, Wulox, proud member of the Ultramarines Legion, do swear to fully paint 14 Tactical marines and 1 Tactical Sergeant armed with a powerfist by Sunday 6th November 2016. In that time I shall provide at least one 'start' picture of my models and one 'finish' picture of my completed models before the given deadline. If I succeed, I shall bring glory to my brothers-in-arms. If I fail, shame and grief shall be my only companions.

For Guilliman and the Emperor! Courage and Honour!
