Hello all,

I usually post these guys up in my Crimson Tears thread in the WIP section and my Deathwatch HoH thread, but now Deathwatch actually have a home, I figured it couldn't hurt to keep a log here.

Old boys here:
http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/304363-deathwatch-300415-quad-heavy-bolter-rapier/

New recruits here:

Raptor with Stalker Boltgun who's probably about 70% done:
http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/8/825868_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/8/825869_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/8/825870_sm-.JPG

I wanted him to look like he'd just made a shot (hence the casing at his feet) and was surveying for a new target. Gave him a punch-dagger on the right arm as it seems like a Raptor-y kind of thing to have and the loose ammo from the Sternguard sprue is done up in a variety of colours to represent an exotic array of toxins for taking out choice targets.

Then there's these two:
http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/8/825871_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/8/825872_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/8/825873_sm-.JPG

The one on the left has a Chapter (can you guess what it is? Nothing to do with Wolves.) the Shotgun-wielder does not, but I've got a couple of ideas.

Lastly this Fire Angel (or Avenging Son, haven't entirely decided yet)with frag cannon:
http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/8/825867_sm-.JPG

Might not look like much, but that cannon is from the Overkill Imperial Fist (I want the body for something else) and it took a good while to make it fit convincingly.

Over and out for now.

Raptors are definitely in my top 5 (Space Wolves, Crimson Fists, Emperor's Children, Raptors, and Imperial Fists in that order), hence why I am working on a 10th co raptor army too.

The new DW bodies must be significantly wider through the shoulders than the standard SM models. I have to replace the Plasma Canon and Multi Melta on two of my old DW models converted from standard SM figures because those weapons aren't allowed. (I built a DW army based on the standard SM codex a few years ago.) I was hoping to simply replace them with the new Frag and Infernus cannons but it looks like  a chore.

Dunno, I didn't have too hard of a time building a Frag Cannon Veteran out of a torso and legs from the newer BA Tactical sprue and the older DA Veterans robed torso/legs.  That said, those are "standard" Space Marine bits by any means.

The Raptor is done:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/20/828228_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/20/828229_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/20/828231_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/20/828230_sm-.JPG

Loyalist - I can't comment on the Frag Cannon and Infernus from the DW Vets kit, but I think this one requires quite broad shoulders due to the way the original model from the Overkill set was holding it and the limitations of the parts I had to make it work on a regular torso. I think that torso, being quite an old part, is a bit smaller than newer marine torsos (certainly the new DW Vet ones) which exacerbates things. I don't think it'll look so pronounced once painted. In any case I think I'll use a tilt shield on the Chapter pad arm like I have with the Raptor, which should conceal some of the gap that's there.

I wish I could claim credit. It's actually the 'Negotiator' rifle from Anvil Industry. You're right, though, it is totally bad ass. comes with different barrel attachments and ammo options to (the latter of which I've sprinkled about the model).

I thought I recognized that!  Was it an easy fit?  I've been thinking of getting some myself.  :happy.:

What was said above, very nice.

For the sniper, the arms you are using, are they just normal space marine arms? I dont have any of those (only got deathwatch arms) and if i wanted to use them i would have to cut off some shotgun hands i suspect which i dont like doing (i love shotguns). So it would be helpful to know if they are also alt arms or GW ones.

Looks like completely standard Mk VII arms, you can even see fingers don't close correctly around grip (though that only makes it look more dynamic). Every bit site should have dozens of these for pennies.

Vel'Cona - Yeah, easy enough. It comes with it's own hand on the sprue I cut down some of the wrist on that some of the wrist on the right arm so it was a much flatter/straighter fit. I would definitely recommend it, I've got another one to do. May use a different barrel and ammo style. On the other hand, drum mags are just too damn cool looking...

Mitchverr - As Irbis stated, they're just standard marine MK VII arms from the Tactical kit. As mentioned above, the hand comes with the gun (but not attached) and I had to do a slight alteration at the wrist (for some reason GW have an obsession with making it so that unaltered boter arms point the weapon skywards or right at the floor, accross the body in the sort of pose no one in combat would sport unless perhaps in cover preparing to swing out and bring the gun into a firing position. I digress...) Wouldn't bother hacking up a Shotgun. Head to a bits site and pick some up like Irbis suggested. Alternatively, just pick up a Tactical box and go nuts. Some of us come from a time when all the Deathwatch had was a metal upgrade sprue and find the aesthetic of the new Veterans kit a bit overwhelming when assembled as intended. Tacticals with a bit of Inquisition bling look better imo.

I really like the new deathwatch arms with the screen readout and some minor engravings on the forearms, switching back to normal tic-tac arms for a simple two handed pose is a bit of a let down but I'll examine the mkVIII arms closer when i build mine if a cant at least salvage that right arm.

On a side note I caved and bought a few of those negotiators. I find it hard to believe a scope and a suppressor manage to extend the range of the average bolter without a longer barrel/stronger ammo. So those bits are perfect replacements imho, thanks for bringing them to my attention.

Ah see that's one of the newer design elements I really don't like,  I'm thinking of a way to cover them up on the two shotguns I got from a bits site. Like I said, though, I'm used to DW models being based on regular marine kits, so that's where my preferred aesthetic lies. Id've thought with a little judicious cutting and possibly some slight gap filling it ought to be possible to transplant them onto regular arms.

No worries. For a multitude of reasons I like Anvil as a company, if I have any part in spreading their gospel, so much the better. hope you show us what you do with them.

Their customer service, product and pricing are excellent!  I'm extremely satisfied with the Fragmentation Cannons I bought from them, especially considering what GW equivalents would have cost.  Honestly, the only reason I'm not springing for these Sniper Rifles is I'm running out of unique chapter shoulder pads to use!  :wacko.:

An Emperor's Sword joins the ranks:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/10/2/830316_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/10/2/830317_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/10/2/830318_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/10/2/830319_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/10/2/830320_sm-.JPG

According to Lexicanum 2 Chapters have borne the Emperor's Swords moniker and both have been destroyed in the 41st Millenium. This battle brother is the sole survivor of the second chapter, whose homeworld turned out to be a dormant Necron tomb world. While he was on secondment with the Deathwatch, the Necrons awoke. As far as is known, he is the sole surviving member of the Chapter. Consequently, he has been given dispensation to keep not just his right shoulder pad, but also his Storm Shield in his chapters heraldic colours. The scrolls attached to his backpack are a list of every member of the Emperor's Blades lost in the homeworld's destruction.

This particular marine came from numerous Ravenwing bits I had lying around and not knowing what to do with them until browsing Lexicanum's list of loyalist Chapters and discovering that neither iteration of the Emperor's Swords had established colour scheme and iconography, but certainly posessed cool back stories for a DW member. Given that Ravenwing symbols are actually pretty similar to those of the Emperor's Children and the similar nomenclature of the Swords to former glory boys of the Imprium I thought to go with the EC's purple as the base colour, but replace their gold  trim with silver; a nod to potential origins (we all suspect/know the High Lords of Terra have tried to utilise the geneseed of Traitor Legions in the past...).

Silas7 - ah, that's a shame. We'll all be here if you do find the time for a plog.

Vel'Cona - For your shoulder pad problem: Shapeways or get inventive with what's currently out there, either pre-moulded (pads from Stern- and Vanguard sprues) or blank ones plus transfers (there's a few symbols on the bog-standard sheet you can use for existing or made up chapters). Make up some Chapters if you want or flesh out the ones that don't actually have established iconograhy like I've done with the Emperor's Sword above.

Neat idea!  The Emperor's Swords marine you did is almost like a Blackshield in some ways, though I hadn't thought to use sole survivors from "honoured" chapters in this way.  Back to the bits box!  :laugh.:

Love that power sword on your empowers sword.  How did you achieve that?

Thanks, man. It's just incrementally brighter layers the further towards the edge of the blade you get. I started with Vallejo Game Colour Scurvy Green and took it down to almost black and then started layering back up to pure Scurvy Green. Subsequent layers had small amounts of Vallejo Game Coour Glacier Blue added in. Probably about 10-12 layers in all.

the Raptor's great... the pad is very well done, can i ask the Precise colours used to get that please...:wub.:

and as stated by others the Blade is wicked and looks sorta necron like :ph34r.: ...perhaps a relic from his home world...

Great clean crisp work here, keep it up !!

Mithril

++EDIT++ saw in your linked thread that the closest GW colour to Cayman green would be Castellan green . also the ammo belts really give it that stalker/sniper vibe

A new recruit still in the process of being inducted:

Tried to make sure the blacks for the shoulder pad and armour were different, I think they're distinctive enough.

Here's the start I've made on a trophy for his pack:

mithrilforge - Thank you very much for your kind words. I couldn't possibly comment on the origins of the power weapon, there may be agents of the Inquisition monitoring our interactions...
