I would imagine that they would take a cue from WHFB and the always strikes first and always strikes last rules.  Its been a while since I played a game of fantasy, but if I remember correctly if a unit had both those rules (such as elves carrying great weapons) then they just strike at their normal initiative.  So charging power fists could just go at normal initiative, which is still pretty good compared to charging and still going last.

Hmm. So, let's thought that out. TDA charges some I5 unit. They will still attack second on the charge because they are I4?

Well, RB, consider the fact that against fellow marines, they will go first/at the same time. Against nids, who tend to mulch marines in combat, they'd go first/at the same time. Think about how valuable that would be against genestealers. Pretty powerful stuff, when you think about it. Even dedicated melds units with the same I stat will take the full brunt of a TDA squad's assault, which they aren't used to taking.

Will there be instances where TDA w/unwieldy weapons still go last? Yes. There are still dedicated melee units that they will run into (b/c strictly speaking, TDA is an all-purpose platform like tacticals) and get killed by. Will they do better versus a lot of stuff, including things like guardsmen who could get lucky and kill a termie before it gets to attack? Also yes.

Is there room for debate? Oh, definitely. Let's get this thread roaring again!

(Also, if GW is going to keep ripping AoS rules, I'll need to go have a look over some shoulders to be better informed.)

But then again we are Iron Hands, we will use a hammer as a scalpel.

No doubt. Given what we know, which is very very little, then all we have are best guesses. All things being equal, Terminators charging against higher Initiative units are at the obvious disadvantage. Then we'll have to factor the greatest unknown being what weapons in 8th will do. Then the armor Terminators will have in the new system.

It's almost premature to discuss what Terminators could do in the new edition without more information.

Otherwise we'd be wish listing. Again. In a thread that starts by wish listing!

RB: I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, though I do believe that the whole point of this thread was wishlisting what would make termies batter, sorry, better (batter is all they tend to be most of the time these days. Have an Astartes birthday cake, guardsman, with genuine Tactical Dreadnought Armor in the mix!).

Regardless, perhaps we should wait (but I'm not entirely sure we will).

I was sarcastic.  My frustrations with this unit has not settled with the Tartaros release and I really care about the subject.  I know that reads like an excuse, when really the issue for me is that "wishing" does nothing to make the unit better (and I agree they do get battered around ...a lot).

I apologize.  It's better not to say anything if I don't have anything to add confused.gif

I am going to remain hopeful that termies will get better in the new edition.  This is all speculation but, since save modifiers are coming back do you think that invulnerable saves will start working like ward saves in fantasy?  For those of you who don't know how ward saves worked, basically when you failed your armor save you would get to roll a ward save, wards were also like invulnerable saves in that they didn't get affected by modifiers.  So terminators could possibly roll a 2+ followed by a 5+ if they failed their save.  What do you all think about that?

If were talking with the framework of 7th, giving elite marines 2 wounds, and terminator armor getting buffed to a 1+ save, and stock fnp or an equivalent, and a solid buff to storm bolters, you might see some terminators again. As is, tactical terminators are terrible at shooting, and not overly great in combat, and assault terminators don't shoot at all, and become mediocre combat units, and both variants are incredibly fragile for their points.

For 8th, who the hell knows whats going to happen, but I hope they do something, and I hope the answer isn't "look at this new unit that does what Terminators should be doing, but you have to buy a new kit" that seems to be GW's go to solution for under performing units.

Still not sure how you're going to buff storm bolters for Terminators without making them almost auto take on most models that have them as an option.

Strapping two guns together doesn't make them stronger, it just throws more lead downrange.
