Sons of Horus +/- 4500 PTS

Hi Gents!

So I am in the progress of creating a SoH army, I have done my test model (in my signature) and I am in the process of gluing. The model count in the list is there, thus I need some quick decisions regarding the list so that I may continue gluing the specific equipment.

The army is made to be fluffy however I want it to also be semi-competitive e.g. not broken (in the bad way :) )

Please Note:

  • Maloghurt is truly a placeholder, I don't know who or what to use.
  • Abaddon is a must.
  • Horus is a must.
  • Reaver loadout (the two top squads) has been set by the amount of resin.
  • Reaver (bottom) is also quite constrained as its a mix of the upgrade pack and unused models.
  • Justaerin is up for debate but I must have the MM and min. 4 axes for fluff ;)
  • Contemptors are awaiting your approval.
  • Rest is up for debate.

Thank you and sorry for the picture as I use excel.

Abaddon and Horus both being a must is a weird one, but they give you accurate deep strikes for your terminators so you don't really need the Spartans.  Rather than Maloghurst, you should bring a Primus Medicae for Horus's big blob to make them that much tougher.  Multi-meltas are bad on Justaerin because they are super expensive and don't benefit from their special rules.  I'd take more powerfists, especially in Horus's squad.

The reaver attack squads are pretty bad, not sure where you're going with that. Veterans do all they do but better (minus not having chainaxes).

thanks,

What would be the best other HQ to take the place of abaddon? (use Abby as a counts as)

As far Maloghurst, would it be possibly better to use a chaplain? (I have modelled him with a crozius, does he still grant re rolls to hit?)

I know primus would be the best but I dont have a good idea on modelling him...

I forgot to state that I have not played since 5th...

You could just roll Abaddon into a Justaerin squad as the squad leader, technically Justaerin can go up to 12 man strong so that wont cause any issues...throw in Horus for a deepstrike assault and you will have a fairly hard to remove deathstar. The Chaplain now causes Fear, makes his unit immune to Fear and also grants rerolls on the first turn of an assault iirc so he would be a great addition to a Reaver or Despoiler squad at 15 strong in a Spartan. Of course, all of these units are expensive...you could try to offset those with smaller squads like a minimum size Reaver squad to outflank or break the other 10 Justaerin into smaller 5 man squads in the Deathclaw and a Landraider (could use the Spartan here aswell).

My suggestions aside, I think you really enjoy the fluffy aspect of the Sons of Horus like I do, so play rule of cool and don't fuss too much over tabletop min/maxing!

Agreed! Thank you!

It's mainly that I simply don't want to be pathetic in a match. I will make those updates to the list.

May a Spartan carry 2 squads? If not would it not be better to increase the both reaver squads to 15?

Not sure on the Spartan. I figure if you have such a large percentage of your army in two Justaerin squads you would be best offsetting that with multiple low point units otherwise you will be playing with literally four units (10 Justies, 10 Justies, 15 Reavers, 15 Reavers) and I suspect that will mean your units will drop because your opponent will have such a small amount to target. 5 Reavers with meltabombs outflanking, or even Veterans will be cheap and can surprise anybody...plus, if they do get targeted then that means your other units haven't been.

To your question on Spartan Capacity, its not a Super-Heavy and thus can only carry a single squad.

Thank you for the info! For some reason with such a capacity one would assume otherwise.

I really like the Venator, I don't have one (yet) but one of the guys I play against has one and it has an impressive tally of tank and Knight kills.

I keep getting the name wrong, thank you for the review.I am really envious of you guys, it seems as if everybody in Australia plays 30K, I live in a large city in Germany and no luck.
