Abandoned Sons - a IX Legion and Militia log

I have now got enough done that an update seems appropriate, so have an update. Finally got around to writing some more fluff, so it's gonna be a long one.

Suggenic Kinband "Mithraids", serving as Anusiya to Fleet Captain Azemeticus

Following the promotion of Azemeticus to the rank of Captain, his true brothers took on the role of honour guard, taking the designation of Anusiya, a Baalite term. Elsewhere in the Legions they were variously known as Lictors, Hetairoi, Life Wards and a host of others. Regardless, their role was to protect their chieftan in times of war, and dignify his presence in times of peace. Despite their reputation within the Legion, this role was performed entirely adequately by the Mithraids, who, free of superior officers to offend, managed to carry off their natural disregard for authority as an insouciant confidence.

Barsulas Mithraides, Adelphos Gibrael 4:13, Anusiyos, 189th company

Barsulas is a complicated individual, forever balanced twixt cool professionalism and exuberant brutality. While as cool headed as an Astartes from a less idiosyncratic unit, he shares the savage joy that all the Kinband possess. These qualities mark him out as the unofficial Sergeant of the Kinband, a role he carries out with good humour and occasional blows to the head.

Artaphernes Mithraides, Adelphos Lucifero 2: 13, Anusiyos, 189th company

The Kinband of the Mithraids, as with many of their ilk, have always had a rocky relationship with the upper levels of Imperial command. Despite this, they are true and loyal servants of the throneworld, evidenced by the great Aquila borne into battle by Artaphernes. While loudly deploring the bulky standard as ruining his fighting form, Artaphernes is fiercely protective of the symbol of Imperial dominance, and his nightly polishing routine has become a source of great amusement for the other Mithraids.

Batis Mithraides, Adelphos Theodorus 6:13, Anusiyos, 189th company

Batis is on one level the least typical member of the Kinband. Ever more at home taking down enemies with pinpoint bolter fire, he stands apart from his red handed brothers. He is, however, the closest friend Lord Azemeticus has, and to see them fight in tandem is to witness the perfection of the Emperor’s design made manifest. Even First Captain Raldoron, whose headaches at the problems caused by the Kinband structure were legendary, grudgingly admitted that the pair were a joy to watch in the practice cages.

Tisaphernes Mithraides, Adelphos Mikael 3: 13, Anusiyos, 189th company

The youngest member of the Kinband, Tisaphernes is universally agreed to be a mad dog. It is a descriptor said with a smile by his true brothers and a curse from his many detractors. He is war hungry, desperate to prove himself to his older brothers, and impossible to manage. Set against this is the fact that he is one of the most promising swordsmen in the IX Legion, and if he managed to last another century without being censured or killed, it is thought his name will be mentioned in the same circles as those of Sigismund and Sevatar. This is, all agree, something of a long shot.

Philotas Mithraides, Adelphos Uriah 5: 13, Anusiyos, 189th company

Philotas is the quietest of the Mithraids, and by far the most well adjusted to Imperial convention. While an unexceptional warrior, he serves as the voice of his commander in most parlays. Within the Kinband, he keeps his own counsel, smiling at the antics of his brethren from the corner as he polishes or repairs something. If he has ambitions beyond his current station, none know of them.

Also finished the test model for my Ursarax, torn between liking the simplicity and feeling it's a little dull.

Any ideas, comments or whatever, welcome as ever.

foamy248, Brother Pheidias: Cheers guys, really appreciate the feedback. Taken your advice on the brightening of the lenses and added highlights on the face area.

Ursarax Maniple 01-04-803

Shown here accompanying the newly promoted Colonel Greer following the Aegina campaign, Mechanicum units were frequently attached to Imperial Army units to act as linebreakers and brute squads. This maniple are currently acting as Somatophylakes, bodyguards. Occasionally these constructs would maintain their watch in non combat situations, but generally they would be deployed solely in active warzones, to protect the fragile human commanders. Often the units sent to the Army were faulty specimens retired to bodyguard duty while undergoing repair, though these units have no external damage.

This puts me around halfway through my Loyalty and Treachery pledge, still got a Leman Russ and a Contemptor to go. I got a solid amount of the way through the contemptor before deciding to strip it, I got it second hand and the previous owner had not heeded the almighty Duncan and thinned his paints. Bit of a pain, but the obscured detail would have bugged me forever.
