Sume's Ebon Chalice

Well I thought I finally get some pictures up of my redo of my Sisters of Battle.  Things have taken me away from the project when I started to simple green them again 2 years ago.  I really got tired of my pristine white armor and red robes.  When I was looking at the models I realized that I could do way better as my painting progressed leaps and bounds since I did them also.

A friend took a picture of some of the things I got painted up.  We where getting ready to play kill team and he found out how nasty a dominion squad was in that environment against 6 tau stealth suits.  I am not sure what to finish with my urban bases.  Took me a bit to find a basing scheme I liked and finally settled upon the cork that I been seeing all over the place.  I was thinking some of the greener army painter tufts.

There is also a picture of an unbased demon hunter Inquisitor.  He is the base model of Inquisitor Rex that I modified to fit into the inquisitor codex.  He was supposed to been a present this year for a friend.  Sadly my friend passed away in Febuary and took many many months to even finish painting the model.  Now I think I shall keep him and finished basing him.  I also think when I make lists and name characters and units.  He shall be named after my friend.

Let me know what you think.  I want to weather the tank but I also like how it does look currently.  I been using the 2nd ed Ebon Chalice color scheme.  Took me a bit to decide on what color I wanted for the tank.

Thank you.  Took some research to find the official coloring for Ebon Chalice in regards to the tanks.   I didnt find it in the 2nd ed codex.  From the lexcium I had found and other wiki entries the tanks where dark blood red.  I even loaded up Soul Storm to see what they did.

So my options where red tanks, black with white secondary, or black with red secondary.  After I thought about it, the black tanks I felt look to black templarish or people would mistake them for Martyr'd lady.  The big drive was that I felt a black tank would end up looking dull.  No matter what I tried.

I also thought the red would look way better.  As for why I did silver.  I think that it matched more in with the decorations of the infantry.  Then I dont like gold on a red back drop.  Breaking it up with a silver or something else before the gold works well though.  Like I did with the side symbols and the land hauler.

Next time me and my friend play kill team, will try to get a picture of the two priests I got, caldius assassin, the limited edition witch hunter, some of my home made death cult assassins (they are special as my friend gave them to me, as he just wanted the pony tail dark elf heads), and my home made crusaders.

The home made crusaders the shields look a little plain right now.  As I plan to add the transfers when I get more things painted.  Stick the big white inquisitorial symbol on them.  They where fun to make.  I took some Bretonian men-at-arms.  Glued purity seals all over the place.  Then painted the traditional red and black.  My death cult assassins are a line from the dark elves in fantasy.  I dont recall what box it was.  You could make two different kinds.  Since my friend wanted the pony tail heads.  I got the rest of the sprues with the masks.  After some clipping and filing down of all the dark elf runes.  They fit well.  I didnt know what to do with them for like two years as I didnt see the assassin in them for the longest time.

Even though I myself am a huge fan of gold decorations - even on red - I still think it's a great colour scheme you picked. With regards to the vehicle colours I'm especially intrigued, by the concept of colouring the vehicles to resemble the weapons, rather than the armour of the Sisters. With that in mind, I feel that red with silver secondry might have been a viable option to the pure red with silver only as tertiary (I presume it's called, If I get this terminology of Sororitas vehicle colouring right:unsure.: ). But then again, maybe I'm just too used to seeing dual coloured Sororitas Tanks.

Quite curious about the converted Death Cult Assassins and Crusader. Having done some of those myself, I'm interested what others have come up with.:smile.:

Hopefully in the next few days I can get hold of a buddy's digital camera and take some pictures of my most recent painted models.  I am trying to get myself a repainted force done by the end of July as I am taking them to a team event for the weekend.  I am leading a team of 4 sister players at it.  Wish us luck.

Anyways I am drawing a blank on two things.  The first for the exorcist pipes.  I am debating making them silver, to match the silver bling that I did on my first tank.  That or gold.  I am at a toss up on that one.

The second is I am needing to find something to brighten up the bases a little.  I dont want to do static grass.  Just need something to make a little better contrast between dark models and dark bases.  This also will allow me to cover up a patch on one of my penitent engines that got a dap of JB weld on it.  I had to JB weld those engines together.  xd.

Very nice mate. Sory to hear about your friend.

Like the ebon chalice girls and like your bases. The immo looks good but i feel it needs some edging done just to let the detail pop out a little bit more. Dont take my word for it though as i hate painting vehicles.

Condolences on your friend Sume, but what an amazing way to remember them.

The army looks fantastic, how are things going with the Exorcist? How about black pipes with silver and/or gold detailing?

Thanks all.  It took a while for my local game store to recover as well.  With 8th arriving and it being a year and half later.  Guys are starting to come back and play games.

I didnt think of snow, that might work.  I got a huge container of that still, that never got used on my Bret army like it was bought for.

I am thinking I will go ahead and do gold piping, and use silver for the bands you see as the pipes near the end.  The base of the organs also silver.

As for the one tank I got done.  I am sure I could go and see if I can get the evil sun scarlet highlight to brighten up some.  I dont think my friends camera was able to show it.

I got a total of 8 tanks to paint before the end of July.  I find tanks being the hardest things for me to paint.  As I just dont feel I do a good job or them justice.  Also waiting on the last death cult assassin.  I got a bunch of the official crusaders for Christmas so I decided to go with the GW death cults to match for this tournament.

I am trying a MSU list for the first time ever.  7 immolators, 1 rhino (which has my battle conclave, cannoness, and jacbos) with 2 exorcists.

For 8th a little sad that my heavy flamer command squad goes away.  Hey at least I can use my 8 heavy bolter girls now, and 4 multi melta ones to good use.

Condolences to you for the loss of your friend. It takes time to learn how to carry their absence but time heals.

The Hector Rex model is probably the best Forge world model I've seen. Awesome way to keep your friends memory with you.

I really like the red immo - I usually restrict my pallet to only 3 colours and hadn't thought of switching the base colour, food for thought...

Well been a while since I got around to this army. I did end up deciding to sell it recently. There was a lot of factors. Which included someone buying a bunch of the stuff I had not painted yet. I also just lost my precious kitty of almost 11 years. That left me a pretty hefty vet bill sadly. Then I got the new boxed set and the scale with the plastic sisters just dont match. Thought I share some photos of the original paint scheme I did, the 2nd version as I went through a phase of trying to keep as much black off the models.

Witch hunters is what attracted me to the army originally. The models where so advanced for the time. My first batch of photos is after I got taught how to layer paint some. Then my 2nd batch is a do it myself scheme I came up with. This is also after coming off some physical disabilities after 7 years. My hands would shake, and I still have some of the lingering nerve damage. Then finally the last batch of photos is the pictures the consignment shop took of my army when they posted it up for sale. It blew me away as they made it look like a GW studio army set up.

Don't worry I am going to try and get a new Ebon Chalice army going made out of all the plastic sisters.

Original idea as I was unsure how to paint white well.

My second try as I really wanted white power armor.

Each successive photo shows better painted models, and your improving skills. Good job.

Thank you.  When I first started to play Warhammer fantasy back in 2003, my local shop would do 40k every other weekend.  I was trying to find an army that I liked so I wouldnt be left out.  People where showing me the different Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines.  I didnt like the bland look of Space Marines.  Then someone was like look at Demonhunters.  Think I then happened to spot the Witch Hunter codex and I am like what is this?  The shop owner was telling me its the new army.  I look through the book and it was like love at first site so to speak.  The models where so gorgeous.

The shop also had done a painting class.  I wanted to make the models look like what I saw in the codex.  The first set of pictures is me from learning in that class.  One of the first colors I learned was red.  Then I ended up with a really rotten ear infection, that effected my entire nervous system.  Not sure what it was.  I just know the ear infection and a lot of the medical problems where connected.  I did end up selling the army to a friend.  Where I think it changed owners 5 or 6 times I was told.  When I bought it back in 2012.

The second set of pictures is a small sampling of the models I had started to repaint.  I really wanted to do white.  As I thought it look good and be fun. Luckily the store was now having a painting class once a month.  So i went down and tried to relearn everything.  Was difficult at first as my hand still shook some.  It still shakes sometimes.

Then 2016.  I wanted to redo the Sisters army.  I really liked the Ebon Chalice and I also liked the Argent Shroud.  I had a bid on both of the banners on Ebay.  Someone outbid me on Argent Shroud.  So thats how I decided to do go all in with Ebon Chalice.  This was my third redo of the army.  I had also just got done in the previous year painting a Bretonian army, with all the models being different.  All the heraldry and freehand also.  I also had redone my Tomb King army.  It was like a similar rebirth to the sisters here.  I had vastly improved my painting skill over the few years as I was recovering more and more.  The Tomb Kings, I even learned how to free hand paint Hieroglyphs.

New plastic sisters I hope to get more then the battle box and transform it to looking even better then my old metal models.  It does have to wait as I am going to a 40k team event in July.  I get to paint a new army this year.  As its a Tau theme my team is doing.  I am going with Farsight Enclaves.

Hi everyone.  With the West Coast in lock down.  My 40k team event this year has been cancelled.  I was struggling to get my way through with the farsight enclave also.  So I decided to put that on hold for now.  I ended up selling the Ebon Chalice army back in March.  The photo shoot was from the sale to make it look amazing and stand out.

Anywyas, all I currently have is the special edition box set sisters, Saint Celestine, her germaine and Grayfax that came in the kit.  I also have all the battle conclave stuff I painted for the army in the last set of pictures.  Reason I sold, a local guy cleaned me out of most of the remaining metal models I had.  So 8 heavy bolters, 4 multi meltas, several Simiclurians, the remainder of the bolter girls and serphaim.

With the scale being way off too.  I was not going to be happy with the final results no matter what I did.

I would like to see what people thought.  Since I am starting fresh I am going to try the contrast paints.  With extra highlights as I see these paints as an additional tool.  Now what I am trying to decide should I go with the old 2nd Ebon Chalice like I did (minus the red trim on the boob plate), the 3rd ed color scheme, or the new version.  I am in favor of either 2nd or current.  The key differences is the bling is silver in 2nd edition while the current is gold.

Thanks everyone that has followed this.  I am currently putting the box set together, and waiting on my clay to dry for basing material.  I will be waiting for GW to open back up more to get reinforcements.  Might actually be to my benefit, as normally I tend to buy all the models i want for an army then I see around 10 boxes that look at me like so when do we get opened?
