Knights of Blood

     Hello, Brothers in Blood!

Well, some time ago I posted this topic . So, Knights of Blood were chosen. Since that day, I thought a lot about them, their reasons, motives and so on. Here in this topic I'd like to show you some results of this. And again, I want to thank all of you - you helped me to decide, to find something of my own.

I began with the Command Squad and the Captain - I think it is logical to form the core of my Company, and then widen it with other models. I'm not gathering a playable army (I don't know how to play, rules and so on), but I'm trying to make it close to formations and structure, and give units adequate loadout. This topic is open, so if you have some ideas, comments, or thoughts of how it would be better to... or something is not so fluffy... feel free to tell me, I'll try to do my best.

So, some general information about my army getting painted reeeaal slooooow...

The core of my Battle Force consists of Ninth Company. It is well-known for usage of everything, that burns, and specializes on different kinds of flamers. Flaming Nine, as it is called among brothers. The symbol of the company - is a burning blood drop, as it symbolizes flaming rage in the blood and the preferred company weapon.

So, WHY are they fighting? I will explain this later on in more details, but to be brief... My Captain and his followers fights because of his beliefs. He is idealist, and he dreams of better universe. Building this ideal world is hard, and everything that differs - is against the Idea. So the slogan is...

     End justifies the means

The painting scheme... ALL I have found about Knights of Blood is this:

    http://i1378.photobucket.com/albums/ah101/spiked-halo/CLuCFBmWcAA_m9u_zpsilpjbm6u.jpg

I've decided to follow this scheme of painting in general with some minor exceptions, like - I will not use gold to make Knights look more brutal.

Now - to my first model... Captain!

Someday... SOMEDAY I will learn how to take photos propertly...

So here it is. My 15th model!

Galahad, Grand Master of the Ninth Court

So - nothing golden! May be in traditional color scheme there must be golden helmets... no) They will be just silver-metall. I wanted to make him more brutal and... more real, you know, because he is a soldier after all, Renegade Soldier, and he is not on the parade. His life is battle. So his coat is covered with dirt, and his armor bears the marks of many wars. He is armed with Combi-plasma - my three veterans will have two plasmaguns and plasma-pistol. So the unit will be plasma-oriented.

As for the painting... there was some new things for me. The base coat - is a mix of Leadbelcher and Abaddon Black - wow, that was dark! But... I prefer dark metal rather then shiny Gray Knights scheme with blue. We are Renegades. No shiny things, only hardcore!!!

Well, I used some weathering powder, my first experience. And that was veery exciting!

The Awful Pictures taken with my Old Phone...

With regards to the photos, there's a decent guide on the B&C here and then there's this on Warhammer Community. To be honest, i struggle with taking pictures too...

Model looks good and the metallic works well. Where did you find the "guide" image in the first post?

Love it. Really nice!

A bit more dirty than i'd have done it but very fitting.

I also would be interested in where you found that picture. All I ever found was the basic marine template on the wiki etc.

That being said do you plan to paint a Librarian and if yes how will you paint him? Since they are traditionally blue i was thinking about replacing the silver with a metallic blue myelf but I'd like to hear other peoples thoughts on that as well.

Similar problem would be with Sanguinary Priests I guess.

Deathcompany would simply get black helmets and black shoulder with red trim (maybe even those in black) in my army. :D

Well, the picture is googled easily when asking - Knights of Blood )) The quality of googled picture was awful, but I am stubborn, and managed to find the source with good quality, and saved it. I thought it was from some old codex...

Librarians... let me think. May be blue shoulder pads and blue helmet - so, like tactical, but in blue) Same goes for the Sanguinary Guard... And the Death Company - well, these guys will be painted in classic scheme, I like it veery much.

You know that a 9th company is normally a Devastator reserve company right?

Not that a renegade chapter has to care or anything.

Flaming blood drop symbol looks really cool.

Its probably fan made. There's no official knights of blood scheme apart from for the tactical marine.

Good job on Galahad, but why is his title "Grand Master of the Ninth Court"? Does this mean he's Captain of the Ninth Company, or did I misinterpret the terms "Grand Master" and "Court"?

Thank you) I'll try to make better photos of him...

Yes, you are correct. I was trying to add something special to my Knights... Something more Knight-ish) So, Captain = Grand Master, and Court = Company.

The name was also chosen to highlight some features of the character and connect him with the one of the main knight legends of all times.

The search for Holy Grail.

Galahad acquired the Holy Grail. Grail and blood are the symbols of BA. And also... Galahad wore RED armor!

And for my guy that search also means a lot. It is his motivation to go on. Grail means redemption... may be he will find in Grail a way to cure the Black Rage or to fix the Flaw. May be the Grail will purify his sins before the Imperium or justify his bloody methods of building and protecting better future) Galahad's mind is filled with visions and prophesies, and they are ephemeral... But he truly believes he uses the Sight like his father could, and that is the legacy of the Father's blood.

Well, here we are with a little update - Knights of Blood Champion!

I followed the same idea when painting this guy, so he is kinda damaged)) May be later I will paint a techmarine for them, and he will fix this up))

Next will be... Sanguinary Noviciate. He is already primed.

May be that sound stupid, but yesterday I took rather cool device and took photos on white + veery bright light from a lamp. And... photos are Very Dark... I hate taking photos... really))

Great thread, great pics.  Way to go!

What does a Knight of Blood do during his down time? They aren't crazed all of the time, correct? Is their ferociousness tied to the Black Rage, the Red Thirst, their geneseed?  This isn't a quiz, just interested.

Well, I think a lot about them actually.

I don't think Knights of Blood are crazy at all. Their willing to Still Serve - that makes me think they are sane.

This is only my interpretation of this chapter, so below are only my thoughts about company I'm building and their leader, Galahad)

They are as sane as other Space Marines. And nearly all of the terrifying things are done with good reason. Galahad and his guys are not an exception. Knight is a synonym of Strength and Nobility, he serves Ideals. Mine serve them too. And their Ideal - is the Imperium in all its glory and greatness. But there are many things - real things, that are not fitting to that dream. Like lies. Like Corruption. Like Weakness...

These things must be eradicated - and because Galahad likes flamers... BURN 'EM YEEAAAH!

So, he Really serves Imperium... but in his own way, own bloody, strange but Logical way. And they are not bad guys after all!

Of course they are tied to the Black Rage and Red Thirst) It's the legacy of their Blood. And Galahad wants to find a cure for his brothers... His own Grail, filled with... Redemption, Salvation... and Forgiveness for all they have done.

And that is why they have End justifies the means on their banner. They are aiming for the good, standing in the sea of blood.. but that does not matter.

Great models, I'm loving the metallic red on that champion, how did you do it?

Thank you)

Awful stupid photos... biggrin.png Aaa BLOOOD CRAVES FOR BLOOD BURN THIS furious.gif There is no Metallic Red))

Red parts are just - Khorne red->Nuln Oil->Khorne Red->Wazdakka-Red and Evil Sunz Scarlett on tabard. Then the damage - Runefang steel+Abaddon black + on the backpack - Tiphus Corrosion. He really needs that Techmarine attention...

And the metal... This is my recipe, just experimenting)

Mix Abaddon black with Leadbelcher 1 to 1. It is the base colour. Then - Leadbelcher pure->Ironbreaker drybrush->Necron compound drybrush. Nuln oil after that.

And next, aftereffects are made with - just a little necron compound + damage=Runefang Steel+Abaddon black.

I love the warn metal look, very well done! The chapter symbols and the flaming blood drop are also very well done.

It's hard to think of any ways they can be improved. The scratches could possibly a little smaller of you want to get nit-picky about scale. I've found a blister sponge works well to make smaller marks than a brush. But then I'm horrible with precision brush strokes and you may have more luck. Experiment with different things and see what works best for you.

I also feel your pain with the pictures. One simple thing I've figured out is to use a piece of white paper as a backdrop and that makes the mini pop out all the more from the neutral background.

Looking forward to seeing more!

Wonderful work on your details, the flame is great and your white and red crestwork is awesome!

Thank you, guys! I really appreciate your words and comments!

Finally, I'm back from my vacation... I was painting different kind of things... like ceilings and walls in my house))

My hobby time suffered a little bit, but now I've already finished my Sanguinary newbie and working on 1 of 3 Veterans. Will post an update soon)

Well, here is a promised update. Introducing... Sanguinary Novitiate!

Some words about painting... I HATE White Scar. Just HATE it. May be I'm doing something wrong, but... as for me, it is the worst paint ever. If I water it down a bit - it becomes transparent. If I do not water it down - it looks like cottage cheese. So I was trying to find a way to make it look better. The result is below.

And Yes, he is not a shiny ass, so his narthecium is covered with blood. And please forgive my photos, in real life it looks much more accurate sad.png The second hard thing for me was the white shoulder pad (white scaar, burn in heell). When it was just white - it looked absolutely flat. To make it look better, I used Administratum Gray - Wonderful paint... adore it. It is like a shade for white. And, of course, my beloved Tiphus Corrosion. That is my love number one. After that... I was pretty happy with the shoulder pad.

Some awful photos, yeah!!

Well, time for a little update!

Soo... Finally I've finished my first unit of Knights of Blood - Command squad - and it is +3 more - two guys with plasma guns and one with the banner and plasma pistol. Later I will post a family portrait.. And I hope THIS time I will not screw things up with the photos.

And now - the most dreadful... Death Company! I began to paint a unit of them ( and in my plans, there will be 3 of them for LBSF with chaplains). I've decided to go with the basic painting scheme... because I like it Veery much. Here is the first one:

With regard to White Scar, what are you applying it over?

Well, I'm not pro in painting, so I apply it like all others - above base coat, in my case - leadbelcher on the narthecium and khorne red on the shoulder pad, when I draw the chapter symbol.

I'll echo what Luther said. Whilst I'm no expert, layer paints tend to be translucent when thinned so you need something suitable underneath. Current trend is to apply it over Ulthuan Grey but I've yet to try that.

Currently I use a light grey (Fortress Grey - which is now Administratum Grey apparently) as a base for white.

Very awesome Deathcompany even tho it doesn't look different than any other Blood Angel Deathcompany. smile.png

Thank you for the advice - I'll definitely try this, when I'll paint some white - I hope, it will not happen soon because of DC))

Thank you all for inspiring good words about my work) Hope someday to post here a photo of my Big Army with flyers, vehicles, knights and titans laugh.png
