On the first glance it looks like you'll have big problems with stuff like Knights or Daemon Primarchs.

Not much I can do about that no matter what army I bring to be honest. I doubt I can kill 3 dominus and 2 armigers but most of my army can at least chip away at knights and if they can't then they can take objectives while presenting low threat.

 

My general experience of the uk meta is that the good players have long ago abandoned Daemon Primarchs so I should be able to outplay anyone still running one if I just play the mission. But even then I'm pretty sure I can kill a daemon primarch and if I run into someone running a daemon primarch and knights then the primarch will be the easier thing to kill.

In GW’s defense, it was probably their lack of attention to detail that allowed the buff to apply to other legions to begin with.

 

Then that was combined with lack of communication between the rules writers and authors of the article that listed that ability as a perk.

Hilariously sad.  They took a character that already was relegated to only gimmicky lists and made it pretty much that he will never see play unless they plan to do a wholesale revamp of the Chaos units in the rumored Black Legion codex to make raptors better.

I think the Night Lords were better off with a Twin Claw conversion of him anyway, they get plenty of leadership buffs I suppose but it sucks to take away another option.

I'm glad for the change to Haarken. It didnt make sense for a Black Legion hero to affect non Black Legion units.

Well, that depends. As Lord of the Raptors, there is a lot of room to imagine that he has influence in more Raptor cults than only those of the BL.

Actually I'd say it doesn't make much sense for unite specific buffs to be legion restricted. The units, or what they represent, are all the same across all legions and have nothing to do with any legion tactics etc.

Also, having a Raptor hero be Black Legion in the first place is kinda silly too, given that Night Lords are THE Raptor legion.

Thankfully, it's now moot - they errata'd the errata. He's back to the way he was. We're all now free to have our Raptor deathstars once again *snickers*.

And anyway, I think GW mentioned in character rumors that he is Nostraman and was once a Night Lord. Can't find the reference, but I remember seeing it on WC. It makes sense that he would have connections from before his time with Abaddon, as well as the fact that Raptors of all legions believe themselves superior to other marines and tend to have a mercenary attitude. Even Khorne Daemonkin Raptors were noted as being there because something was in it for them. I can see other Raptors following Haarken out of respect, debt, or simply that he gets them what they want.

So far you are the only one I've seen anywhere thinking it was a good idea to make it Black Legion only or at least doesn't think it was a ridiculous change. Usually the vocal minority is a LOT more vocal and even the not so vocal majority is better represented. So I think in this case it was indeed the majority that wanted it to work on all Raptors. It also makes much more sense this way since Raptors are Raptors regardless of the Legion and he is the Lord of Raptors not the Lord of Black Legion Raptors.

I'll just be in my corner with my 25 raptors and Haarkon and still doing well on the table despite him being "bad" or "trash" 

 

Glad to see he is usable among other legions again, stupid choice by GW to change it via FAQ when THEY were the ones to tout his ability to be the true "lord of raptors"

He's not bad or trash. He's about as good as a regular Lord but more specialised in that he's only buffing melee Raptors ... which themselves aren't good melee units unfortunately. If he himself were a bit more capable or if he'd make Raptors actually good in melee people would be much less underwhelmed by him as named character. ^^

Abaddon buffs non-Black Legion units so there's at least a theme. Mixed legion raptor hordes are cooler than a horde of 'alpha legion' non-astartes with the warmaster in the middle.

Codex states that “Any Chosen may take take one item from the Melee Weapons list”, does this mean I can give each and everyone in the squad a ‘free’ Chainsword as well as their Bolter and Bolt Pistol? Bit of a no brainier if so!

Yeah you can, but why stop there? Replace his Bolter with a Combi-Bolter as well for maximum S4 spam! ;)

Powersword + Combi-Bolter is a nice loadout as well, tho a bit more expensive.

Good call, I like that idea. Also, those Chainaxes for that single point too look pretty decent.

 

Chosen seem to be a pretty cheap utility unit nowadays if you keep them cheap.
