++Incoming Transmition++

Brothers... we return. After a great hiatus, the 9th Crusade is once more Battle Ready. A long campaign on the fringes of Tau Empire sees us battered and bloodied but determined.

We return.

The Holy Light of the Emperors Strength burns within our veins.

With it, we extinguish the shadows.

You have been gone too long brother, but it warms the heart of one looking at another winter solstice to know that you are back.

I too shall be crusading against the Tau empire this coming year. If you pick one end, I'll take the other and promise to meet you in the middle.

IMPERATOR VULT!

Hail Brother, for the welcome is warm and the feast is a plenty.

The Crusade made planetfall on Kasyr Lutien - The Traitor Scum was well prepared and ready for our attack! The Crusade has suffered greatly this day, and the by the Emperors Honour we shall settle this score!

The Forces lost:

Brother Kratos - Emperors Champion

5 Sword Brethren Terminators from Squad Invictus

5 Assault Sword Brethren from Squad Victoria

Venerable Brother Alexander - dreadnought

Crusader Squad Imperator - and all assigned neophytes

Tactical Squad Furia - And Rhino APC

Land Raider Crusader - The Emperors Zeal

All 1500 points fell to the forces of Chaos howling chants to the Blood God, in a fury they were upon us The Emperor Protects.

+++++

Ok! So I played a game against my friends KDK 1500pts. He ran the KDK multiple detachment with a DP, Thirster, two units of blood crushers, some blood letters, CSM, spawn and some termies.

We played a one off Echos of war mission from the Black legion book, the Templars deployed in the middle of the table, and the chaos army had first turn and were only 9" away... so first turn charges!

The game looked like it would be a win for the templars when the 3 meltaguns all missed the LRC at close range! And then... the thirster failed to kill the shooty terminators.

Then... the game turned when the maulerfiend killed the storm shielded assault terminators and then fliped the LRC on its side.

All in all it was a very fun game and I loved playing the match up! I cant wait to play my templars on and off more often that I have in the past.

THe game will be a battle report on my youtube channel.

I had my second game with my Templars! And OH what a game... I will be making a video battle report about the game, that will be on the youtube channel. But, I wanted to chat a bit about my experience.

I played my, un-updated Black Templar army against the spankin new Black Legion Warband! Jared, who usually runs his KDK was all over this new release and wanted to test out a few things, and what a fantastic game.

We played maelstrom of war. And it was deadlock... starts with 6 mission cards and makes its way down to 1 card.

The list I played brought Marshal Augustine (chapter master) with Cataphracti terminator armour, the shield eternal and a thunder hammer... a BEAT Stick.... love this character... so cool.

I had 5 assault terminators with 3 thunder hammers.

a 12 man crusader squad with a LRC dedicated.

5 crusaders in rhino with PG and MMelta

5 crusaders in rhino with PG and HBolter

3 man Bike Squad with 2 grav and melta bomb.

1 HBolter attack bike.

Vindicator

And then I had an allied detachment-

Cannoness

Priest with the litanies of faith.

6 Siters of Battle.

All in all a bit of everything, the army lacks in real mobility, but makes up for it with some staying power.

I hope to have some pictures up soon, but things that I loved!

The assault terminators with a priest... OMG they were awesome

Objective Secured LRC... lots of lolz... still died to a meltagun... but it was nice being able to take the objectives out from under my opponents nose with this behemoth.

Chapter Master - finally died on turn 6 but he essentially took an entire flank of the enemies army by himself. It was awesome, very cool.

Things that were MEH

5 man crusader squads... not as effective when people can snipe out special/heavy weapons with positioning and LOS.

Bikes... although cool, they die fast.

Vindicator... did not really do anything in the game... I feel points can be spent elsewhere and be more effective.... if I had a storm talon I would sub this out in a heart beat.

Thank you for sharing those tidbits, I'm looking forward to your batrep.

I still refer to mine as a Master of Sanctity, but I use essentially the same equipment. He can tank a lot of anything. I am curious about something. Since the SE gives you 3++ and Eternal Warrior, isn't getting the Cataphracti armor more expensive than straight up Terminator armor? It seems your paying extra for a lost capability?

Termie armor: 2+/5++ goes to 2+/3++, Eternal Warrior

Cataphracti armor: 2+/4++ goes to 2+/3++, Eternal Warrior

The assault terminators with a priest... OMG they were awesome

What does the Priest do for you? Also vs. taking a Chaplain?

Objective Secured LRC... lots of lolz... still died to a meltagun... but it was nice being able to take the objectives out from under my opponents nose with this behemoth.

While you were sleeping :P our observations on LRs in general have been, take one and it becomes the focus of your opponent's AT fury. Take more than one and it dilutes  the overall effect of their firepower significantly. Take three and they have a cow.

There is that points thing however.

5 man crusader squads... not as effective when people can snipe out special/heavy weapons with positioning and LOS.

The answer to this one is, "it depends". The 5 man las/plas still works as long as the opponent has something else that's a bigger threat. Yours also seem to be foot bound whereas a number of us put them in rhinos for the mobile pillbox, ablative armor effect.

Bikes... although cool, they die fast.

A lot of people like these. I think it depends on how you use them. As fast T5 Grav totin' wonders with a jink, they do a pretty awesome job.

Personally I do not take them because of the aesthetic. I've never wrapped my head around riding a motorcycle into combat. It strikes me as very WW I-ish when the allied cavalry rode into German machine guns. Bikes are just faster horses.

However, that aside, people do use them a lot and they are highly recommended for the things that they do well.

Vindicator... did not really do anything in the game...

Well, my standard response to this is, "Nothing says these 24 inches are mine like a Vindicator!"

I usually get good results out of mine. I do tend to pair him up with a LRC, and drive both of them forcefully down the throat of the opponent. I highly recommend putting the Siege shield on him as it allows you to ignore difficult terrain. I once used this trick to hide a vindi up close behind no LOS terrain just in front of a large concentration of enemy.

On my turn (I stole the initiative), the vindi punched through the wall and much hilarity ensued...for me. My opponent, not so much.

He did take it out with a Dreadknight eventually, but for awhile, it provided quite a deterrent to the center of the board.

Also, don't discount the "effect" of a vindicator. Sometimes it doesn't kill anything, but the opponent will all sorts of stuff to stay away from that big pie plate.

Cheers,

I do like the vindy for some board control!

The Priest is a 25 point character that does Hymns in combat, one of the hymns allows all saves for the unit to be re rolled... combine this with assault termies and they kill things and survive for round two, and three... hehe.

Brothers!

The cicatrix maledictum has rent the universe in two. The forces of Heretics, fueled by the powers of chaos and false gods have beseiged on all sides. The astropath on our battle barge was slain and hence communication was null.

We have docked at Jeruslaem VIII - our chapter keep here has remained strong, uncorrupted.

Hear our call Brothers! For we continue our Crusade, your Faith illuminates the dark. We destroy the shadows with the light of the emperor.

The 9th Crusade is still at fighting strength, we purge the Xenos, we purify the unclean.

For The Emperor

It is a portent of no small significance that you return to us brother in these times.

Never has the Imperium been more dependent upon the Sons of Dorn.

Unleash the wrath you have built up during  your absence and light the galaxy with your ZEAL!

So, I have a challenge tomorrow brothers !

Running 1500 pts of our Templars , although I have to complete 10 different challenges every game- here are the ones so far -

Wield The Emperors Light with it, destroy the shadows -

Abhor the Witch, Destroy the Witch! (Use the abhor the wych stratagem to shut off a power)

Suffer Not the Unclean to Live - (Kill three units in close combat)

Accept any Challenge, No Matter the Odds! (Kill a character and/or monster with the Emperors Champion and or Marshal)

Uphold the Honour of the Emperor - (don’t use a command re roll)

Test their Resolve! (At least 1 crusader squad survives the battle)

Initiate Training (kill something in melee with a scout squad)

Power of the Machine Spirit (keep the land raider alive)

What other ones wound you add ?

Zealous Revenge: Kill an enemy Psyker with a Dreadnought. Bonus points for using a Chainfist and 2 Heavy Flamer Ironclad.

Heir Apparent: Kill a character or monster in Close Combat with a Castellan (Lieutenant).

Truly They Know No Fear: Do not fail a single Morale test all game

No pity! - wipe out an enemy unit in the morale phase the same turn you were in melee with that same enemy unit (I interpret this is wiping by sweeping advance but IDK of that term is used in 8th anymore)

No Remorse! - destroy any enemy unit inflicting excessive wounds equal to the number of wounds the enemy unit had when it started the phase in which you destroyed it (example inflict a total of it least 10 wounds from shooting against a squad of 5 chaos space marines)

No Fear! - never turn down the opportunity to assault the enemy. If it is ever possible to assault an enemy unit then you must attempt to do so.

Do you think Detachments will be allowed in your tournements? In Germany there is a discussion about forbitting them. For me its important because I think for Templars the "Sword Brethren" Detachment is a "must have".

Here it will be accepted if it’s accepted at the ITC usually. And these formations are not bad at all. I do love the Templar formation.

I was looking at the leaked pics and didn't see a drop in the Thunderfire, just a handful of points shaved off the Techmarine's Plasma cutter and flamer :huh.:

Are you sure it's in the Space Marine section?  Like how the Demolisher cannon got a discount but in the Guard list, but it was already 0 points for Marines.
