Hi All

With the release of the new Thousand Sons, my Friend and I have decided to re-make our first 40k armies (from 15-18 years ago). I will be revisiting my original Space Wolves army which has sadly been lost to the warp (multiple student house moves), and he will be dusting off and adding to his Thousand Sons/CSM.

It's worth noting that this will be almost a solely painting & modelling project, as neither of us have kept up with the latest edition of 40k over the years, and I think we have a battered copy of 6th for when we do eventually get a game or two. On this basis, I'll be assembling units based on aesthetic rather than tactical loadout for game effectiveness :)

I've got lots on my desk at the moment, but when the gauntlet was thrown down, I managed to scavenge a fair sized lot of new on sprue Space Wolves from Facebook & ebay so the below is what I am working with so far:

2 x Start Collecting Space Wolves

Logan Grimnar

Space Wolves Terminators

Contemptor Dreadnought (from Betrayal at Calth I think)

Space Wolves Dreadnought

I also bought a Khorne Juggernaut from eBay to try and recreate the below image which I have had on many and varied phones since I spotted it many years ago, promising myself that one day I would attempt it:

I will be posting progress shots as soon as I have taken some. I've got some Thunderwolves on the go, and I've nearly assembled the terminators :)

Thanks

Lofty

Yeah it looks phenomenal, I'll try and post my progress so far this weekend. Work is really gearing up with things to finish by year end so I've not had much hobby time since I started the thread unfortunately.

I did manage to complete assembling my Wolf guard, but I've kept some torsos separate for ease of painting so they wont make much of a group shot for the time being.

Hopefully something to show soon :)

Thanks

I've made some progress finally. I forged ahead and started adapting my Contemptor to accept the axe and sheild from the Venerable dread kit. I like the bipedal-ness ( ? ) of the Contemptor more with the armaments so it made sense to me to use this chassis for those weapons.. I will be magnetizing some of the options, so I just need to choose the alternatives and plug in the magnets.

I also managed to make a start on my Thunderwolf lord conversion. The plastic Juggernauts are nothing like the metal one in the picture I posted to start with, but I've got all the legs/paws sorted now.

To be honest, I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed by the amount of fur/cover up that is going to be required for this project. I'm sure however that when it is complete it will be worthwhile.

  • 4 months later...

It's been months! I can only apologise but this was never going to be a primary project.

In light of the announcement for 8th edition, I've had an injection of inspiration so I've picked this back up again hoping to start fresh when the rules are 'reset' and provided for free (can the rumours really be true?! gasp). Hopefully getting not only games with my long time opponent, but I may also venture down to our local new(ish) gaming store and see what the local meta is like for a 'not played in a decade' hobby veteran like me.

Anyhow, I've been busy this week smile.png
I got two riders done for my first set of Thunderwolves

The last rider however gave up his legs toward the Thunderwolf character conversion, so I had to get my thinking cap on to see what I could do to still have a usable third. I'm really pleased with the result versus what I had in my head for it.

I also magnetised all the various weapon options for hte contemptor modification I was working on.

Now that I've made some 'cool stuff' I'm going to try and get a unit of 10 Grey Hunters done so that I don't lose motivation after I've finihed making hte more interesting units/models :)

Thanks

Lofty

PS - anyone know how to stop the photos being so massive? I'm useless with photos and editing etc but I cropped these before posting but they still look so huge!

I wasn't sure what special weapon options were good in the current edition, let alone what might be goo din the next edition, so I ended up getting some rather nice resin special weapon combo kits from Anvil Industry, and I'm really chuffed with how they look smile.png

Cheers

PS I've not added the full write up/links to products as it's not really relevant to the army build but more detail on my blog if anyone wants to know more
