Alternative bikes

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm looking for alternative bikes for my night lords, as the SM/CSM ones look really awful to me. Surfing the webs I come across this beauties.

Question is, any of you have used them? I'll like to know if I can make the marines fit before making a big investment.

Thanks in advance.

The bikes are from Prodos' Space Crusade.

Yes, I have looked the kromlech ones, but are too bulky for my taste. Maybe the puppets war light bikes would fit for regular power armor?

Problem is that I'll need between 6 and 12 bikes and that can be some important investment, even causing that I'll drop the buying of BoP (yes, I'm not swimming in money). So I need to be sure of the purchase.

Absolutely appreciated. The puppetswar bikes above seem ... thin for PA, and I'm sure there is a bulkier version they have. I'm getting the impression about the front wheel because in both examples it is without the armor cowling (?). Is that the aesthetic you are looking for?

I actually just played a guy today that had a White Scars army with the Puppets War bikes. The light bikes you pictured are a bit small for Marines, but he had some built as scout bikes and they worked very well like that. The heavy bike is just slightly less bulky then the standard marine bikes though and that's what he used for his tactical bikers. He also had a khan on jet bike using their jet biker and it was just a bit larger then normal, which worked wel for a heroic looking HQ.

You could have a go at making conversion bitz yourself. I wanted my CSM bikes to look more like the FW outriders, a bit more sleek and predatory and less... brick, but the cost of so many FW models is just too much.

So I instead made new front and back bitz for my CSM bikes.

Modifying the SM bikes should rather easy, though my bitz would not fit. Here is how I approached the problem of SM/CSM bikes.

*Subtle steps out of a convenient shadow, looking gaunt, haggard, and paranoid*

No time... Never enough time! Too many ideas, too much to do, and not... enough... time!

I will be tackling the subject of bikes in several ways in the somewhat near future; armoured cavalry was an original central theme to my own army collection (still is, really), so having bikes goes without saying. Buuuut, I've never been that impressed with the GW bike models so it's definitely something I want to produce some studio kits for, and I want to do some conversions using all/most GW bits, plus scratch-build, to make the models and keep them official. I plan to use one of the upcoming Gangs of Commorragh boxes to convert and bash together some jetbikes, and I'll be sure to document the process.

The studio on the other hand will be doing a series (loyalist, chaos, and somewhere between) of jetbikes and ground bikes that I have been contemplating for quite some time. Given their smaller size, they'll make an excellent earlier project for the studio starting in mid-2017, but exactly when I'll start on them is hard to say right now. As I said, right now I'm really busy finishing my thesis, but even when I'm finally done, I've got so many ideas I want to work on it's going to take some time to get to them all. That said, Bikes are something I really want to do, and soon'ishTM, so I can finish my own army for censored.gif sake!

So, with that...

*Subtle steps into an unnoticed hole in the ground and vanishes into the gloom*

Edit: and I've got a really solid idea for the ground bikes I'm going to produce, and I think they're going to look absolutely awesome. I like it so much I'm forcing myself to keep it quiet until I've got something serious to show. Another studio did a kinda' similar take on the idea, but I wasn't impressed with it. Mine is going to be brutal, I promise. The whispers from the warp have spoken on this idea, and I have no choice but to make it real. Not every idea is like this, but this is one of them.

Scibor has some alternative bikes as well. Though I have never seen them in the wild I am unsure as to how well they scale. I think their stuff tends to lean more on the chunkier side of things (http://sciborminiatures.com/en_,shop.php?group=182)

I was thinking of getting one and seeing how well it pares down.

Also Infinity is 28mm scale:
