I just a new GW medium basing brush

Why didn't I get one sooner! Its perfect for that kind of stuff! (Ps apparently gw brushes are winsors)

So I'd recommend one of those for getting base colours down

As for speed. Be messy to begin with then start getting neater and touching up once you start doing the finer details will save a lot of time

I do all my work with a mix of GW brushes and Tamiya. The GW artificer brush line is great.

However I can't honestly give you any advice on speed painting, I take weeks to paint a squad, and about a week to paint a single character. I approach everything to be the best quality I can...sadly even my 100+ guard infantry.

I say do whatever you like the look of. You don't wanna come back 3 years later and dislike the quality of your army (like my Thousand sons are for me right now).

Thanks for the input guys, duz I've just got one of their new artificer brushes ans it is much better than their old kit.

However what I am trying this time is my size 1 Winsor & Newton series 7 and I must say its been much easier than using my 000 haha.

GW I agree with you and that's what I'm aiming for, I don't mind if it takes me ages I just wasn't sure if taking a couple of weeks for a 5 man team was too slow so I'm glad I'm not alone!

Base coated my command squad today or what will be anyway I will be putting one plasma guy in another squad as I was a bit of a goon an ended putting both vox packs on my plasma guys.

I've got another 10 scions to build so I'll just chop and change and it'll be fine!

Don't forget to drill your barrels out!

But overall looks good, paint at your speed, and just keep it up. Sometimes I sit down, grab a guy, throw a color on him and maybe a wash or ink or whatever, then come back a day later to do the next part. It's all about finding time to paint when you can. Take joy in the simple act of painting. Models get done when they're done....

I'll give that a go on my next squad Duz, for now I'm quite happy with the end product:

Still got my Taurox to paint. Everytime I look at I don't know what to do with it, it's still basecoated and drybrushed like the pictures in this thread, bit stumped!

I used some of the textures Citadel paint to get a mud covered tracks kinda look although it doesnt look great in this lighting.

Basically it matches my Scions.

Also finished my Commissar par his base as its currently drying so I'll have a pic up soon.

So that's one Hellrain formation built, currently building my second and then I'll be on to either my Knight or scenery I'm building to make a small game table!

I second this. I use GW M layer from this point onwards to build depth.

Thanks, I've basically started using a larger brush right away.

It helped so much on my second squad of scions,to the point where I'm actually looking forward to painting the other 20 scions ive got left to do :)

Great job so far!

The Scions are some fun miniatures. The only thing that bothers me about their kit is how it only comes with one very statically posed plasma gun. Looks great on one or two models but might start looking a bit odd if you want a command squad with 4 plasma guns.

I also wish it came with more beret heads with full face masks, it's such a good look!

Looking forward to seeing the rest of your force.

There's a few ways to get around that though.

In the MT codex there's a picture of one throwing a grenade with the finger of death.

I've also used the medikit and cut of the symbols as if he's carrying around a very important briefcase.

But yes the finger of death does get old very quickly.

Been waiting for some more Zandri Dust spray to come in the post but in the meantime I managed to get hold of 20 of these cheap:

More to arrive yet but basically I'm going to use them as my Veterans in my guard army.

Gonna start painting these ones today and see how I get on.

Nice! How cheap is cheap though? ;)

It's all relative...right? Haha.

The actual guardsmen and lieutenant I ordered came in at about 25 (14 men) but the melta guys (6) came in at the same price...so not that cheap.

Basically I was umming and ahhing about doing some kit bashing with my current plastic guard, then I saw a guy on Instagram in New York who had a few pictures with well over a 100 metal guardsmen on a really nicely modelled board and I was sold.

I couldn't afford them back in the day with my pocket money so now im making amends :)

As always great work my man. The commissar looks wicked as well. You've inspired me to cut some hobby time out for myself and get my scions painted. Playing with three schemes ATM that I might post later this week. I think I'm going to stick with my classic colours though. Anyhow keep it up!

Thanks mate, looking forward to seeing yours.

I've got all my others primed and ready to paint but atm I can't drag myself from trying to finish my veterans.

Got to this point so far:

2nd Veterans squad nearly done:

Since taking the picture I've managed to do the shoulder pads, lenses with 'ardcoat on top.

Then kinda managed to get a hold of another 2 full squads, so got plenty to go with.

I was going to try striping their helmets to give them some way of sticking out?

Think I'll just use the new plastic models I've got as my blob guard and use all the metal ones as vets etc
