There is clearly only one choice for Savlar rough riders.

Because if your troops are going to be huffing paint before battle, clearly their horses combat efficiency would be improved by huffing paint also.

Thanks Everyone

The lexicanum has this to say:

"...Rough Riders, the latter riding into battle on ungainly beasts native to Savlar."

So, I don't wanna use bikes (although it could be fun to mad max them as i think that would suit.) and horses aren't really ungainly, but that horse does look pretty sick.

I've also been looking at these from puppetswar.

But yeah Riders are still a long way off for me

Got 2 more done!

I really like how grimey the voxcaster came out.

I would suggest though you have another color for the base, right now they blend together quite a bit - maybe something greyish?

I realised you're right, but I wanna keep it earthy, like they're in a muddy scrapyard or something. I gave the bases a drybrush of zandri dust and I think it helps a fair bit.

I finally got a squad finished! biggrin.png Here's the 3 i just did.

Note: finally some stolen weapons.

And here's the whole squad

What a handsome bunch msn-wink.gif

I'm probably gonna start another army very soon, and I'll just swap between this and the new one. I like having 2 projects cos I struggle to focus on one thing at once and this should help me stay interested.

I would suggest using the mounts from the Gorka Morka Muties for your rough riders if you can locate some, they would look perfect in my opinion.

I had to look them up but yeah they look pretty cool and would work well. :)

But considering that like 80% of the image results were converted alternatives. Finidng some could be difficult. (And possibly expensive)

Yeah, they are pretty rare and usually expensive. That being said there are 4 of the mounts for a fair price on eBay right now.

So finally my bits and kits arrived. I've made a start on my Platoon Command Squad!!!

http://i.imgur.com/i6WI3Z7.jpg

Lieutenant Kyel 'Butcher' Essiris, Medic, Voxcaster, Standard Bearer

I'm really happy with the medic, the plague doctor mask suits really well i think. They all have various bits of stolen weapons and tech. They've all still got a bit of work left, and I have to figure what the last guy is gonna be. (I'm thinking heavy flamer)

I've also started an Astropath and Officer of the Fleet, I'll probs put some photos up later.

I also made a start on my Company Command Squad

http://i.imgur.com/SPyipBG.jpg

Officer of the Fleet(w/ custom archeotech pistol), Astropat, and Voxcaster

I was playing around with arms and stumbled across this 'lost navigator' look for the voxcaster tongue.png

I thought it was funny so I kept it, doesn't really suit the hardened criminal feel of the army but oh well.

I'm planning to use the PCS as my vow for Phase 2 for Ioria

I made a start on a standard bearer for my compant command squad and my warlord; Captain 'Slip' Saveryx

http://i.imgur.com/BVRhPDq.jpg

So far there has been a lot of filing and adjusting shaving parts trying to get things to fit. Ah...the joys of kitbashing, I feel there's going to be plenty more of it to come!! biggrin.png

Oh I am loving these, especially the plague priest! I wonder how he'd look if you put a hat on him. tongue.png

Thnaks, Yeah I thought about that but I think he'll just look too much like an Inquisitor blink.png

Can't believe I haven't seen this thread before. I've been planning to do the same thing for weeks, waiting for my Vic Minis parts to arrive from Australia...

Very inspiring, keep it up!

Thanks, I guess I'm doing something right if my stuff is inspires you biggrin.png

So, I was gonna work on my vow for Cleansing of Ioria today, but then the parts I needed for my warlord Cpt. Slip Saveryx arrived, so this happened...

http://i.imgur.com/ABDysQp.jpg

So i guess Ioria will have to wait cos I'm pretty proud of this guy and wanna get him finished. :D

I think he shows the rogue-ish ex-con man who talked his way into being promoted, but is also a great soldier/badass kind of look I was going for. He's got bits of Tempestus, Commisar, Cadians, Space Marines. It was a fun build and I just hope my painting skills do him justice.

I have a small bit of fluff for him, but I think I'll wait until he's painted before I post it

++Capt. 'Slip' Saveryx: 42nd Savlar Chem Dogs, 1st Company++

http://i.imgur.com/hm9N0V0.jpg

Josiah Saveryx was a con artist on the planet of Granatius, who used his quick wit and high intelligence to trick hundreds of people out of vast sums of money. Over the years he has had many aliases; the media labelled him “The Granatius Grifter”, many of his peers called him “The Mouth” for his ability to talk his way out of any situation and after he managed to escape Arbites capture for over 20 years he had earned himself the nickname “Slippery Saveryx” which was later shortened to “Slip”, which he tends to prefer these days. After being caught and charged he was sent to Savlar and joined the Chem Dogs. He proved himself to be both an excellent fighter and a brilliant tactician and quickly rose through the ranks.

He has also shown himself to be a loyal (if unorthodox) servant to the Imperium and many say he has turned over a new leaf, whereas others feel this 'loyalty' is just the latest scam in his long history of lying. His weapon of choice is a heavily customised gold plasma pistol which he 'rescued' from the corpse of Inquisitor Thedotus during a defensive against an Ork invasion. There has been some debate however, as too exactly how the Inquisitor became a corpse.

Only Slip himself truly knows what his motives are, but either way, he and his men always get the job done.

So, I finally got him finished, pretty happy with him, although I think the eyes could be better. and I'm pretty happy the backstory I wrote too which was basically just prettying up what I wrote about him for Cleansing of Ioria.

Got my Platoon Command Squad done!

http://i.imgur.com/cCSOCO4.jpg

and here they all are together

http://i.imgur.com/tzsiDm5.jpg

Pretty happy with them. I think the achieve the psychopathic look I was going for.  I originally tried putting a logo on the banner but my freehand isn't so good, so i figured making it look they made it themselves was easier (and makes sense) :)

Here's the backstory I put up with them in Cleansing of Ioria.

++Platoon Commander Lt. 'Butcher' Essiris++

Lt. Kyel Essiris is the Lieutenant in charge of the 1st Platoon of the XLII Savlar Chem Dogs. Known as 'Butcher' to his peers, a nickname he picked up from the media on his home planet when he was labelled 'The Butcher of Peprago' after a series of brutal murders he committed. He is a highly unstable individual and in any other regiment his psychopathic tendencies would have prevented him from being promoted. He is seen by many as Cpt. 'Slip' Saveryx's right-hand man, others see him as more of a guard dog. He, along with his command squad 'The Insidious Basterds' have an insane ferocity and penchant for close quarters combat more regularly found in Khorne Berserkers rather than Guardsmen. He carries with him a skull which he claims is from a slain enemy, as to who exactly the enemy was depends on who is asking.

“Literally the craziest [CENSORED BY THE INQUISITION] I've ever had the good fortune of meeting. He would gladly fight an Ork Warboss 1-on-1... I actually nearly let him once...”
- Cpt. 'Slip' Saveryx

This is pretty much the same as my Ioria post, but I've started on a Leman Russ

http://i.imgur.com/DykjNAH.jpg

This is what it looks like so far, being as it's Chem dogs I'm gonna add plenty of extra storage and bags etc.

I've got a plan on how to paint it as well as a small bit of fluff to explain how the tank came into their possession, so I wont be posting any WIP pics as I want to show them together! msn-wink.gif

So i took a break from painting my tank and I got my astropath painted

http://i.imgur.com/p4mzNYG.jpg

I scrapped the goggles off because astropaths are supposed to be blind, and they wear green robes and I've never really painted green like this but am very happy with how he turned out. I know he probably shouldn't look as much like a criminal but I wanted him to fit in with the rest of the army. Also, as someone who is of the "Leave No Model Un-Converted" school of thought I love how many different bits went into making this guy.

I also realised that I have enough bits to make some veterans with sniper rifles

http://i.imgur.com/bNMoWWl.jpg

I'll probably flesh them out with some snapfit cadian(with head swaps) and maybe a vostroyan sniper (just cos they are such cool models)

I used Brother Chaplain Kage's tutorial for the camo cloaks (http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286080-tutorial-capes-made-from-tissue/)

still figuring out how I'll paint them.

Thanks everyone thumbsup.gif

I really like these, noticed now that I haven't really considered the chem dogs very much actually... Perhaps I might have something new to make here. Particularly like how you have used those cultists here and there.

Yeah I figured the cultists would work as they already have rebreathers and In my head these guys are on the very edge of being loyal, being as they are all hardened criminals.

Great squad so far! Really like the guy on the right with binoculars!

Yeah, he's my favourite, he's the Vet Sergeant. the idea is that he marks out targets for the snipers

Presenting...The Savlar Pattern 'Urban Camouflage' Mk. 1

http://i.imgur.com/23HR86d.jpg

++Accessing Audio Files

++Accessing File: 13354787647-HCO

++File Name: Excerpt of recorded conversation between Lord Commissar Ezekyel Octaricus (O) and Capt. Josiah Saveryx (S) of XLII Savlar Penal Regiment.

++File Description: Pre-battle inspection before the cleansing of rebels from Hive City Ophelia.

++Play Audio File

++

O: Captain, are these your men?

S: Yes Sir! Fine looking bunch aren't they?

O: Well...yes...quite...... Now look here Captain, I know we give you Savlar boys a fair bit of leeway with the... acquisition of equipment, but generally it's only AFTER THE BATTLE!!

S: I'm not sure I follow you Sir.

O: THAT TANK RIGHT THERE!

S: Which one Sir?

O: DON'T TOY WITH ME CAPTAIN! That Leman Russ right there that has clearly been stolen from a Cadian Regiment!!

S: Which...oh, no Sir, that's not stolen, that's one of ours.

O: It's clearly had the Cadian iconography covered with crude writing!!

S: Ah! No, that's not crude writing Sir, that a new tactic we've been working on.

O: What?

S: We're heading into a city that's in open rebellion against The Imperium. From my experience rebel cities tend to be covered in graffiti, so this, is our camouflage!

O: What do you take me for, Captain?

S: No Sir, this is The Savlar Pattern Urban Camouflage Mk I!

O: It's....WHAT?

S: Urban camouflage Sir! We've been working on it for a while, we're not sure yet, but we're hoping to see good results!

O: Well then, why is the main hull painted in Cadian colours?

S: Oh, well... that was the only colours we could...requisition through the...usual channels.

O: Hmm, Are you really trying to tell me this ridiculous paint job is not a cover up?

S: Of course not Sir! I can see where the confusion comes from Sir, but I swear to The Emperor, everything is above board.

O: Hmmm, I'm keeping my eye on you Captain.

S: As you wish Sir!

++End of File

++Note: this file has been passed on to Adeptus Arbites for further inspection.

This was a lot of fun to paint!

This has made me wanna paint more tanks, I was originally gonna gonna have this army as footsloggers, as thats what savlar is supposed to be, but now I'm thinking I might wanna make them an armoured company!
