The realm of Yamatar

http://www.starwarsintheclassroom.com/content/ss/images/first_order/first_order_symbol.jpg

Hello there,

as I received positive feedback concerning the founding of a Japanese themed realm within the Imperium during the Scouring (and having the permission of Slipstream for using one of his Legions brotherhoods), I'll use this thread as both, brainstorm and platform to upload finished stuff.

So what it's all about?

I'm currently working on House Toho. In order to flesh them out, I was granted with the 8th brotherhood of the Scions by Slips. While thinking about their shared fluff, an idea popped up including the founding of a Japanese themed realm.

As House Toho, their allied Titan Legio Gojira AND their own regiments of auxiliary forces called Ashigaru are all basing on Japanese stuff (Godzilla, Samurai, Pacific Rim and the likes), it's most likely that they share a common cultural and historical background. That's why the homeworld of Gojira belongs to former exiles of House Tohos homeworld of Kaijo for venerating machines more than the natural balance of their home.

With the help of the 8th brotherhood, House Toho can reconquer their homeworld and start participating in the Great Crusade and later the Insurrection, etc. During the Insurrection, House Toho realizes that their homeworld (though being allied with the nearby Forgeworld of Tanya'ba) is rather defenseless. This impression is further enhanced when traitor forces (led by renegade lords of Toho) tried to assault Kaijo. Though these forces were fend off, the leaders of the allied strike force decided to enhance their situation. This decision resulted in a reclamation of the surrounding worlds (which were partly lost because of the traitors actions), reshaping them into one combined realm. This realms purpose is both simple and crucial: to strengthen itself for a better defense and a better position with the Imperium.

It is still loyal to the Throne and pays the regular tithe as usual. But instead of being ruled by a strange governor of Terra, this realm is allowed to reign itself. Thus, House Toho became the leader of this realm, which they named Yamatar. Its Samurai and their suits are a perfect example of the honorable and mighty realm of Yamatar.

Legio Gojira and the Forgeworld of Tanya'ba still clings to Mars but is as well a important part of this little realm as it provides most of the realms forces wargear.

The Ashigaru regiments, formerly deriving from Kaijo, now recruit from the entire realm. As their origin lies within the marine and ground forces of House Toho, they become excellent soldiers and crew members for aquatic and aerial / void warfare.

The former 8th brotherhood of the Scions Hospitalier, led by captain Galen Diomes, was granted to become an independent force during the event known as the Second Founding. They resettled within the realm of Yamatar, taking one world for their own needs. Specialized in multi vector engagements regardless of terrain, they make use of rare and unique wargear like rare and amphibious tank patterns. Instead of bolt guns, they prefer laser and other energy based weaponry like Volkites, plasma guns or heavy laser techniques, each able to work under water as well. While the forces of Toho and its allies are known to be proud (sometimes even too proud and focused on their oaths) and honorable, the heirs of Diomes are more and more known for a cold, sometimes brutal / ruthless way of fighting. Some say that they are obsessed with the ideals of the Great Crusade. On Kletax IV, they successfully fend off an Ork-Waaagh!. Afterwards, they executed the entire ruling cast of Kletax for being incapable and unworthy of ruling a world in the Emperors name. Therefore, they reshaped the society of Kletax in their own, merciless version of the Imperial Truth.

Together, they form the realm of Yamatar. Together, they are looking on a past of betrayal and a future of war. Together, Yamatar shall endure.

Overall ideas:

As previously mentioned: Toho = Samurai in Knight suits; Ashigaru = footsoldiers; Gojira = big, bad ass mechs

While it is all based on medieval Japan and the overall Japanese culture, the 8th brotherhood will be based upon the First Order / Galactic Empire of Star Wars, being merciless, convinced on their own ideology (which is their own version of the Imperial Truth) and that the end justifies the means. Former Phantoms will still be an elite force of them.

----------------------------------------

Color schemes; tried to mix their color schemes in order to create a unified one

8th Brotherhood is heavily inspired by Stormtroopers and is not their scheme during the Insurrection but that after the 2nd Founding. Colored shoulder pads indicate their rank (yellow = sergeant, red = captain and so on). Order master will be entirely clad in black armor (what a surprise ). Phantoms will be their elites, being as well clad in black armor, though a bit different than their master. Terminators shall resemble the Imperial Honor Guard of Palpatine.

House Toho (imagine it to be a Knight)

Ashigaru regiment

Heirs of the 8th

Terminator

-------------------------

Still looking for an appropriate name for the 8th. Any clues?

This thread will help me in creating the story arc for all of them and further in creating the finalized fluff for our books! That's currently all I've got. Hope you enjoy it. :smile.:

Additional color schemes:

Former Phantoms

Weaponry: volkites attached to arms like they had before; power weapons; a mix between Vanguards and Terror-Squads if you want

Like these guys + jetpacks and melee weapons

Master of the Order

master crafted Terminator armor (maybe Tartaros); relic power sword (red glow instead of blue), volkite on arms as well, gift from Tanya'ba to the order, therefore some tiny Japanese / Samurai influences

Crest of Yamatar

A mix between these two

In terms of inspiration and visualization, yes.

Keep in mind that the Empire and especially the First Order are basing upon Nazi Germany, which itself was allied with Japan during WW2.

So I'm rather trying to create a "light" / 40k-ish version of our own past by using Star Wars stuff. Sounds weird, doesn't it? ^^

@Skalpy: ha, yeah that's true. ;)

I'll keep the Star Wars influence very subtle. :)

@drakzilla: While I agree with the dark grey main colour idea and scale pattern (no idea how you'd manage that though) I'd like to put forward my original idea for Gojira's decorations of almost-tribal markings daubed in the azure bioluminescent ichor of the Kaiju the Legio hunts, like this:

Nice concept here.

May I make a suggestion for the Legio Gojira color scheme? Dark, dark rad-scarred grey, with a subtle scale pattern on its surfaces. Darkened brass trim, and red flame motifs throughout.

Yeah, might look cool but I had something like this in mind:

http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/godzilla/images/9/9f/GVM_-_Jet_Jaguar_Action_Pose.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20140403212914

Just kiddin'.

That sounds awesome, Drak! :D

Thanks, guys. :)

Rules?

I'm not even close to even consider rules. ^^

Current to-do-list looks like

- Toho

- Get familiar with Auxiliary forces

- Ashigaru

- return to the Predators

- in spare time: 8th and Gojira

Though this list can change in time.

Does a Knight House need rules? Was thinking about an new Knight suit but that's all for now.

As I'm not familiar with rules (don't play the game). I'm open for suggestions. :)

*edit*

Maybe we could combine both versions. Partly clad in scales, representing the slain Ke'mano of Kaijo, while the rest is covered in ichor-ish markings of their homeworld of Tanya'ba like Sangi suggested.

Rex Monstra should definitely receive his own rule set. He'll probably never see a gaming table, but we should immortalize him in crunch at least for the fun of it.

Titan-sized rad beam mounted on its head, dual power claws, maybe a higher weapon skill and some drawbacks, maybe he has to charge the main weapon, or is generally a bit unpredictable.

And Sangi, digging the Kaiju markings idea! Though I'd suggest Rex himself should pretty much be plain. Keep him dark and foreboding, as the King of the Monsters should be.

Agreed.

Well, at least one could use the generator of Freeblade to create Knight schemes. Though you have to upload these pics on Facebook or somewhere else.

Got Freeblade on my phone. In theory, I'm able to create such schemes. First of all, I'd need to find out how uploading does work in the end. ;)

To clarify for everyone,Rex Monstra is a Warlord-class Titan, not Imperator or anything else, as I felt an Imperator would be too much for a single Forge World to construct, let alone maintain. Plus Imperators are meant to be rare as hell treasures that can conquer entire worlds and grind civilisations to dust beneath it's adamantium heel, it's important we keep them special and highly exclusive.

Have to figure out how to do a screenshot with my phone. ^^

Incoming suggestion for the former 8th Brotherhood

I had the following idea in the morning. We know that the former 8th brotherhood is cruel, merciless and brutal in terms of waging war & rebuilding a world which failed the Orders view on the Imperial Truth. Furthermore, they are deriving from Terra and the oceanic homeworld of Pionus.

Therefore, it was likely that I was thinking of a aquatic predator. In the canon universe, we got the Carcharodons. Why not doing something likely? And that was the moment, another deadly predator came into my mind: an Orcinus Orca better known as Killer Whale.

Orcas are known to be one if not the deadliest aquatic predator on our beloved world. So I searched the internet about them and found some commonalities between them and what I was thinking of the future 8th Brotherhood:

- have the same color scheme

- acting in groups

- they both are unpredictable; the 8th safes you and then kills / punishs you for being unable

- being merciless, brutal and cunning (ever seen how Orcas hunt? They are drowning whale calves, for example, with their own bodies in order to feast upon them! I've seen a documentation about this specific behavior and it gave me chills. ^^)

Sure, this suggestion might remind of the Carcharodons. It's not my intention to create a Carcharodons 2.0 but the 8th could be our pendant to them as they are currently on a rising star because of the recently released (and awesome) stuff.

I was looking for an appropriate Order badge and found this one

Had something like a down pointed trident with an Orca in mind but this one looks good enough.

Furthermore, I got the following names for them:

Orcinus Astra (official, imperial name as they call themselves the Brotherhood), Tide Hunters, Myrmidons (were said to wear black armor), Depth Striders, (Brotherhood of the) Black Fathom, Truth Bearer (because of their conviction of the imperial Truth)

What do you think?

And now something completely different:
Yesterday, I bought a copy of the Rogue One Encyclopedia and guess what? The featured Death Troopers (on which the 8th version of the Phantoms will be based upon) are rumored to be gene enhanced and the pinnacle of the imperial soldiership. Quite fitting. ^^

  • 3 weeks later...

After getting familiar with For Honor, I might've found an appropriate crest for House Toho:

http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/for-honor/images/d/db/Factions-emblem-chosen_ncsa.png/revision/latest?cb=20160713224642

Well, at least as a basement for a WH-ish version.

It (For Honor) will further help me in naming certain ranks within the hierarchy of Toho by using their hero classes as archetypes of House Tohos Knights/ Samurai suits.

*edit*

hm...Though I did wrote the correct link, the wrong one is displaced. If it doesn't work, please have a look via google: For Honor samurai, you'll see the crest instantly.

Nope, just saw its cinematic trailers and had a look in a fan wiki. ^^

As three of four hero classes were created by Ubisoft (Kensei have a historical background, rest I haven't found anything), I have more freedom in using these archetypes.

Rough ideas:

Shugoki = heavy weapons, crusader or this brand new pattern

Orochi = fast moving ones like Lancers or Gallant

Kensei = veterans, rare suits like Acheron or Castigator

Nobushi = Paladin, Errant pattern (those used as first line of defense)

Coming back to House Toho as it will be needed for Book 2.

First page:

House Toho crest (temporary)

*placeholder image*

House Toho

Title: The ancient and honorable clans of Kajio
Household Grade: Secundus (slightly under strength)
Warden Domain: Kaijo System, de facto rights to local stellar group of Waniku under review
Cognomen: Wardens of Waniku, Beastbreakers
Allied Legions / Forge Worlds: Forgeworld Tanyaba, Legio Gojira, XIXth Legiones Astartes Scions Hospitalier
Allegiance: Fedelitas Constantus

Quotes:

"The strongest of all warriors are these two - Time and Patience."

or

"What does it mean to be a man? What indeed is a man? Is he the honor he would give his life for? Is he the deeds he has done? Is he the vows, which predict his life? Is he a servant or a lord? Is he a traitor or a savior?
I cannot tell.
For I do not even known what I am anymore. In order to save my people from the threats of below, I need to dispossess my liege. What does that make me? Servant or lord? Traitor? Man or Monster?"
+-+-+-+-+
Shogun Moritsugo Minamoto, clan Minamoto, Lord of the Samurai, Defender of Kaijo

House Toho (known officially by their formal title, the ancient and aonorable clans of the House of Toho), also known by their cognomes, the Wardens of Waniku and the Beastbreakers (informal, self-referential), was a Secundus Grade Imperial Knight Household that has always valiantly stood amongst the defenders of the Imperium of Mankind for millennia.

House Toho was counted amongst the most venerable knightly Households of the entire Segmentum Ultima, its Knights being famed for their tenacity and their honorable demeanor.  Separated from the rest of humanity's domains for millennia, House Toto nevertheless stood their ground against xenos incursions and the megafauna of their home planet, Kaijo. Severely depleted by the time it was rediscovered by advanced forces of the Great Crusade, most notably the Legion known as the Scions Hospitalier, House Toho was saved by the actions of the legendary Moritsugo Minamoto, whose stood against his own master in order to ally with the Imperium to save his people and whose leadership would prove paramount in the dark years to follow.

-------------------------------

Could someone explain to me what they mean with Patent regarding the Knights Households? That they have the right to act on their own / rule by their own?
