Horus Heresy is a mess, avoid spoilers, choose what you want/need to read in which order can be really hard, with others members from the Black Librarium French forum (http://www.black-librarium.com/forum)

we have created this:

http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/154631EnglishHorusHeresyv20pretapublier.jpg

(really huge image, need to download it to navigate properly)

Currently i'm working on the 2.1 version and i need some help to improve it, some images provided by BL indicate that those links exist but at Black Librarium we were unable to confirm or deny the existence of theses links between HH works:

- Nemesis ---> sigillite

- sigillite ---> Wolf Hunt

- The Purge --->Templar

- The Purge ---> The Outcast Dead

- The Outcast Dead ---> Cybernetica

- Cybernetica ---> Praetorian of Dorn

- Crimson Fist ---> Mechanicum

also if you have somes Links related to The Soul Severed or Valerius this would be cool =)

Please avoid spoilers in this thread as i'm reading HH in french we have some delay due to translation.

I hope you will enjoy this and Feel free to share this with others Horus Heresy readers ! =)

If I remember correctly, The Purge sets up the events for Templar through a certain location.

The Crimson Fist sets up a late part of Mechanicum due to being spread out over a lengthy timeframe and the secondary plotline back on Terra leads into Mechanicum (and continues after).

Valerius branches off from Weregeld from Corax and The Soul, Severed follows from The Path of Heaven, although it makes reference to a yet-to-be-released story in-between the two.

Thanks, for The Purge ===>Templar you would say it's a minor/intermediate or main spoiler link ?

same question for Weregeld ===> Valerius and The Path of Heaven===> The Soul Severed

The Purge kinda explains why things in Templar are the way they are, but I have read it after listening to Templar and had no trouble that way around. I'd say it doesn't really matter which order you read them in, though both now appear in The Silent War anyway now.

For Valerius (and The Grey Raven, the same applies) I'd say you HAVE to read the Raven Guard plotline first. Weregeld is where the stories branch off (around 2/3 through) and it sets the stage for both. Without Weregeld, the experience would suffer.

The Soul, Severed I think also needs to go after The Path of Heaven due to Eidolon being re-assessed in TPoH and TSS being a character piece that builds on it. Without the novel, you're missing the middle piece.

The Path of Heaven===> The Soul Severed

About Nemesis ---> sigillite in general it has nothing in common. As for one of the apperances you could link them by it. Same with sigillite ---> Wolf Hunt

The Purge sets one particular location as DC said for the --->Templar

The Purge ---> The Outcast Dead - absolutely nothing in common.

The Outcast Dead ---> Cybernetica - absolutely nothing in common.

Cybernetica ---> Praetorian of Dorn - the only common thing is location.

Crimson Fist ---> Mechanicum - same as wit the previous one.

As for the part 2

Unforged--->Unspoken

Know no Fear => Perpetual

The Path of Heaven => The Last Son of Prospero

Pharos => The-Painted-Count

Weregeld => The Grey Raven - between them goes Valerius audio from 2016 Advent.

Mechanicum===>Into Exile - the last goes before the evacution of Camba-Diaz in Mechanicum.

Into Exile ===> Master of Mankind - yes.

Angels of Caliban ===>Exocytosis

The First Heretic ===> Master of Mankind - ahem too outstretched.

Hope this helps.

Valerius happened before one RG arrived to Terra for the trial.

Soul/ Severed goes definitely after the Path of Heaven and the point then Eidolon already found Typhos (Eidolon mentioned this himself) - so it goes right before the siege of Terra and at least a year after Path of Heaven

The Path of Heaven===> The Soul Severed

Know No Fear introduces a character whose story is continued in Mark of Calth's Unmarked, which in turn relies on Know No Fear and the following Calth That Was from Mark of Calth and, in a way, also on Athame. Unmarked is followed by Perpetual.

So it'd be

Know No Fear ===> Mark of Calth (Unmarked) ===> Perpetual

The Last Son of Prospero connects right to the end of The Path of Heaven, correct.

Same goes for Pharos => The Painted Count and Weregeld => The Grey Raven / Valerius

Mechanicum => Into Exile => The Master of Mankind is correct as well.

Angels of Caliban => Exocytosis, where Exocytosis seems to be set not that long after The Lion from The Primarchs

The First Heretic does lead into The Master of Mankind in part but iirc it is mostly during a flashback scene and there's years between the two where other links seem more relevant.

The rest I'd say are spot on

'Exocytosis seems to be set not that long after The Lion from The Primarchs' - it settled up years after the 'Lion' novella events, as Tychus states in Exocytosis being harrowed for 'years' by Corswain fleet.

'Same goes for Pharos => The Painted Count and Weregeld => The Grey Raven / Valerius'

- Valerius going before The Grey Raven.

The The First Heretic ===> The Master of Mankind link is a green one (Minor)

Unmarked is followed by Perpetual. Listening Perpetual before reading Unmarked would spoil Unmarked ?

The chart is more about spoiling link than chronological order.

Thank for your help :)

No it will not in general - the ending would be spoiled 'that they survived' lol

And chronological order is also good. Several years ago it was sooo needed in HH

'The The First Heretic ===> The Master of Mankind link is a green one (Minor)'

-almost non-existent, let's call it that.

  • 1 month later...

I have finally read anthology Legacies of Betrayal and War Without End (some translation delay as i read in french), and i have noticed some issue with our reading order, i will do an update

But i have a question:

The Divine Word should be linked with the raven guard story arc but where should it be, after deliverance lost, after/before a short story (but witch one ?) ?

Should it be linked directly with the audio Valerius or not, ect...

Others story that are not on the Reading Order, if you have ideas:

Tales of Heresy (book 10)
- The Voice

Age of Darkness (book 16)
- Liar's Due

The Primarchs (book 20)
- The Serpent Beneath

Shadows of Treachery (book 22)
- Death of a Silversmith

Legacies of Betrayal (book 31)
-Serpent
-Warmaster
-Hunter's Moon
-Lone Wolf

War Without End (book 33)
-Virtues of the Sons (wrong position)
-The Harrowing
-All That Remains

Eye of Terra (book 35)
- The Wolf of Ash and Fire
- Sins of the Father (the current position is false)
- The Herald of Sanguinius
-The Final Compliance of Sixty-Three Fourteen

The Silent War (book 37)
- Distant Echoes of Old Night
- Army of One
- The Watcher
- The Gates of Terra

Meduson
- Deeds Endure
- The Noose
- The Keys of Hel
- Hand Elect

Ebook/audios/novella
- Sons of the Forge
- Ordo Sinister
- The Binary Succession

Just please don't spoil book beyond book 34.

The Voice follows on sometime after Flight of the Eisenstein but before Ghosts Speak Not (from The Silent War)

The Serpent Beneath is before Scars, I believe

Death of a Silversmith is before Horus Rising, but I am not sure if it is before or after The Wolf of Ash and Fire

Warmaster is after Fear to Tread, Know No Fear and Vulkan Lives and The Crimson Fist, but not long after

All That Remains I'd place about on par with Garro: Shield of Lies

The Herald of Sanguinius is after The Unremembered Empire, maybe after Deathfire but before Pharos

Sons of the Forge is parallel to Vulkan Lives and Deathfire I think. It is set after Artifacts, which was pre-VL and pre-Isstvan V

Ordo Sinister is parallel to The Master of Mankind

Thank, this is more like chronological order but about spoiler, if i read The Herald of Sanguinius before The Unremembered Empire will the short story spoil the novel ?

Same question apply to each link you wrote.

If read the second before the first one will spoil you the first then it should go to the spoiler free reading order.

Ps: Yes Warmaster is tricky because for one single short story i would need to add many long links that would make the Chart a lot's harder to be read.

The Serpent Beneath is directly right before Scars - because it's events are what make the events of Chondax possible (news from universe and breakthrough).

Death of a Silversmith was stated that it goes after 'The Wolf of Ash and Fire'.

All That Remains I'd place about on par with Garro: Shield of Lies - almost at the same time - with a year/several months difference.

The Herald of Sanguinius is indeed after UE but before Deathfire (it contain quote on Azkaelon internal struggle)

Sons of the Forge is after Vulkan Lives. It goes after Istvaan 5. Techmarine discuss himself that he need to do Primarchs biding, even through Primarch is missing/presumed dead.

Ordo Sinister is parallel to The Master of Mankind - not so. French stated that it was pre-MoM first battle chapters in Webway. And MoM events definitely goes after the defeated first and continuous second daemon surge.

Currently working on the update i've added some of your links (those that are spoiler link not the only chronologicals one, it's suppose to be a reading order not a timeline).

I have 3 questions:

- The Captain Arcadese of Ultramarine appear in the Forgottens sons short and then in the Gate of Terra but we did'nt manage to find a short story that explain what happened to him between these 2 short stories, still unknow/not published content ?

- Value of Fear the Night Lord character reappear in an other Raven Guard story but Nico couldn't remember which one ?

Thank =)

-Serpent

-Lone Wolf

War Without End (book 33)

-All That Remains

Eye of Terra (book 35)

- The Final Compliance of Sixty-Three Fourteen

The Silent War (book 37)

- Distant Echoes of Old Night

- Army of One

Meduson

- Deeds Endure

- The Noose

- Hand Elect

Ebook/audios/novella

- The Ember Wolves

Army of One - year 006

Distant Echoes of Old Night - year 007-008

The Binary Succession - year 0010.

On others we should think upon

Thank but i didn't asked about year but more specific questions:

- In The watcher the knight errant Vadras ison in one of the main character, this character reappears in Vow of Faith but is he a character in previous garro audio/short ?

- The Captain Arcadese of Ultramarine appear in the Forgottens sons short and then in the Gate of Terra but we didn't manage to find a short story that explain what happened to him between these 2 short stories, still unknow/not published content ?

- Value of Fear the Night Lord character reappear in an other Raven Guard story but Nico couldn't remember which one ?

It's not a Timeline i search "spoilers" links to make the reading order not a chronological order.

I see - I stand corrected. Anyway you deserve praise for simply trying to make the reading order. Now with a lot of main, secondary and unnessecary stuff it's truly hard to follow and a straight line or simplistic chart
