General Discussion Secundus

My tech-wizard wife is guessing old age. What caught fire was the screen's power board.

I did keep my old computer screen, so the biggest issue is getting used to the lower screen resolution right now. It's a little frustrating because I had been planning on getting my old Let's Play profile going when we first started to smell the burning.

At least we now know what the problem is, and I can still stream as it is. So, we're good overall.

It's just not everyday that one can legitimately say that their computer caught fire.

How do Destroyers work in Legion Organization? I have someone who requested I have the Destroyer commander get some screen time in Second Son, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Given that Destroyers are a specialist branch, would that mean they have a representative on the Praetorate? Or would a Chapter Master/Lord Commander have an additional duty in managing the Destroyers?

EDIT: The idea I have right now is to have a former Destroyer who's achieved the rank of Praetor.

Pfft, Destroyer Praetors? Get behind Riktus in line.

Anyways, I think they're like heavy weapons teams in that they're a specialist cadre rather than a specific ranking. 'Serkers put a lot of value on them and recruit many veterans into their ranks, I always imagined it to vary between Legions.

I was actually doing some work on the HW destroyers a while back in preparation for doing a story/section them. I made plenty of notes on how I though they would operate which I can send you or post if you like sim.

I would appreciate that.

Cut out the notes I made on more trivial details. Here are the main points:

Organization Post-Alexandros

-Officially organized into a seperate chapter/order, with their own Lord Commander, the Order of Fire. In addition to specializing in destroyer weapons use, are planetary assault specialists.

-Unofficially, they are rarely deployed in "destroyer" units. Instead, squads or company sized(100 marines) units of destroyers are attached to other Halcyon Wardens units as specialist troops and fight under the command of the Captain or Lord Commander whose unit they are attached to. Because of this, by the late Great Crusade the Order of Fire was rarely listed on Vth legion Orders of Battle as a seperate order.

-As the number of Delians in the legion increases, the size of the HW destroyer cadre shrinks relative to the size of the legion. With the number of volounteers shrinking, Alex introduces a system whereby the shortfall is made up by conscripting Halcyon Wardens into the Order of Fire for a 5 year tour of duty. At the end of this tour, they can either return to their old units or be reassigned to the destroyers permanently, depending on preference.

-Because of this small sizend relatively spread out nature the destroyers were forced to throw out the old rulebook for legion organization. Given the amount of firepower they had at their disposal, they decided squads of 20 were too large and clunky for their purposes. So they broke them up into Combat Squads of 5, led by a Corporal. Within a squad, there would be two "support" combat squads, with two heavy weapons each, and two "assault" combat squads, with two power weapons or power fists. One support and one assault combat squad land in one drop pod.

-The support combat squad provides covering fire while the assault combat squad takes ground. On the defensive, the support cs does the killing while the assault cs protects the support cs.

-Order of Fire structure

Combat squad: 5 marines led by a Corporal.

Squad: 20 marines led by a Sergeant

Company: 100 marines led by a Captain.

Detachment: A unit of unstated size commanded by a Captain General. These could vary in size from two squads to several companies.

Order of Fire: 7,500 destroyers commanded by a Lord Commander/Praetor.

-Conscription: determined by lot. Halcyon Wardens who have never served in the destroyers before draw a stone from a pot. If its a black stone they become a destroyer, if its a white stone they stay a normal Halcyon Warden.

Pre-Alexandros

-Were largely well regarded as a unit and were seen as an elite unit. In this time, they were called Sturmtruppen rather than destroyers.

-Wer seen as the legion's top troops and as such, almost all of the early legion's higher echelons of officers had previously served in the destroyers.

-Went into battle inside tanks. The tanks punched a hole in the enemy linr and then the destroyers emerged from the tanks with jump packs and moved to exploit the breach made by the tanks.

Note: the Martian Big Three of Mortis, Ignatum and Tempestus are actully called the Triad Ferrum Morghulis. We need Ignatum and Mortis detachments alongside a couple of Legions given that, along with Tempestus, they were probably the first available to the Emperor

I'm a little confused. Wouldn't that lore be better fit for assault companies as opposed to destroyers? Sturmtruppen certainly aren't known for their chemical warfare, and I don't see Alexandros caring enough to actively maintain destroyer contingents.

In canon, who do Ignatum and Mortis serve with?

Well, destroyers would be necessary sometimes so maintaining a small number of them would allow the HW greater flexibility as a fighting force.

Sturmtruppen weren't known for chemical warfare but then practically no fighting force is. They were known though for heavy use of relatively new technology like hand grenades and flamethrowers that wasn't readily available to most units, like destroyers.

Hey guys, just writing a post to say that I'm currently struggling to keep motivated for this project (due to large amounts of school-work and other chaos-y distractions). I don't know what this means for the future of the Lost Angels or my contribution to the Insurrection project, but I figured I should let you know.

Cheers,

Just take your time and return when you can refocus. Or have an idea to develop the lost angels further.

With a name like Ignatum, wouldn't they be a natural ally to the Fire Keepers?

Well, the Fire Keepers have Tonarum. We'll see if Demus likes the idea.

If anyone fancies their guys buddying up with Atarus, that would annoy Mars somewhat (in canon they were passed around, took a beating on Gardinaal with the Ultras and used callously by Horus in one battle). We should go over relations between ourmown Legions and Mars. Off the top of my head I can only name Gojira, but I could see them being viewed as peculiar (and that's before the Scioms are seen to be palling around with some oddball samurai Knights).

I also wonder if House Zivich would be resented. Gonna look at their origins again.

Thematically, legio Astorum being attached to the IV Legion feels right. Experimental tech, going fast, and teleporting indecent amounts of firepower.

Xestobiax I think should remain dust on Prospero, though the unexplained acquisition of a few God-Machines by the Drownes after the catastrophe may be noted.

I'll look up the latter. Actually, what are the VE's relations with the Mechanicus like?

I was gonna say we should have some of our own Forge Worlds and lack some canon ones (especialy if they sit in the Qarith Empire)

Hey guys just letting you know that I've not been lost to the Warp. The Iron Gauntlet challenge has been eating up my focus lately. With the first challenge complete I should be able to finish a couple of the writing projects I've been working on soon.
