and 2 more bloodletters, there's only 2 left to do now!

@Mechanist - I think they'll be easy enough to distinguish, the different dedications will look pretty different and they all have icons anyway. plus the last 2 will have heads from the AoS Khorne Bloobbound

  • 2 weeks later...

My bits for my plaguebearers FINALLY arrived yesterday :smile.: (apparently it was randomly opened and checked by customs)

So, I made some plaguebearers, but i don't know if its because these were easier to put together than the bloodletters, or i was just inspired, but i got a bit carried away...:ermm:

http://i.imgur.com/LvYMFCc.jpg

The one on the left is the icon bearer and the big one with a bell has the instrument

I also made a start on the Plagueridden for them

http://i.imgur.com/mup614J.jpg

They all need some more detailing and a bit of GS but they're mostly put together, I really didn't expect to get this many done in 2 days

The idea behind them is they were once either abhumans or medical specialist, and they help Hieronymous with his experiments, the bigger dumber ones are mostly used for heavy lifting :D

I've also finished my GUO, just have to base and paint now, but I might wait until I've a few plaguebearers to get my putrid skin technique down

I'm sure I'll finish the bloodletters soon, but April is looking starting to look like Nurgle month to me, as I now have the bits to finish my Herald of Nurgle too.

  • 3 months later...

Hey Everyone, So, due to slight burnout and lack of motivation due to mental illness I haven't really picked up a model in last 2 months or so :( but on the weekend I had a sudden flash of motivation and finally got back into the swing of things. So here's an update on my new additions.

Finally, my Bloodletters are all built :) now i just need to paint them and write up a bit of fluff.

I have rounded out my CSM into a 5 man squad (2 more and a Aspiring champion) as Hieronymous' main retinue of combat servitors

I also finally finished my Herald of Nurgle

http://i.imgur.com/TWeF3BK.jpg

I went through a few different ideas for the palanquin legs, there were some that looked better but were a lot harder to achieve, and some were easier but looked worse, but i think this is a good compromise for both!

I've also almost finished painting my GUO, hopefully will pics up tomorrow :D

Thoughts?

Yay welcome back. I think we can all understand burn out and the need to take care of ourselves and it's great to see more as and when you can mange it.

the next bloodletters look ace and the CSM are fantastic. I'm loving the Herald as well though wondering what he would look like with more legs, maybe 8 in total to get a spider vibe or even just keep adding till you think it's enough and there's a whole bundle of them.

'The Beast' was created entirely by accident.

After attacking a civilian hospital ship, Hieronymous took the patients captive, having already figured out that those afflicted with a contagious disease could better handle the transformation into Plaguebearers.

Hieronymous was attempting to forge his creations on a larger scale, making several Plaguebearers simultaneously with one large machine, but due to the mismatched parts and hand-made nature of the machine, He experienced a catastrophic failure.

After the smoke of a warp explosion had cleared, all that remained of the test subjects and the machine was a writhing mass of mechanical parts and limbs fused together. Heironymous called the experiment a failure and left the thing he had created to rot.

But after a few months one of his lab assistants checked in on it, and discovered that it had changed, all the legs and arms had moved and joined together to form larger limbs. Hieronymous kept a close eye on it and after a few more months the creature had evolved even more, It now towered over Hieronymous, and the smaller limbs had continued to be absorbed by the larger ones. Hieronymous had it moved to his main laboratory to have it augmented with horrible weaponry and battle stimulants. He saw visions of cities burning under the heel of 'The Beast', and laughed...

So thats my GUO, I'm very happy with how it came out, and all the little details I added and sculpted! I think he fits in nicely. I feel I'm getting better at utilising washes to achieve the sickly effects I'm going for :D

Yeah thanks, I did think about more legs but it was getting a bit difficult to attach them, plus I like they way he just has 4 spindly legs holding his big fat body! :smile.:

Dr. Veeran Mortelus was once one of the most brilliant and revered physician and medical scientists in The Imperium, and had travelled to numerous systems curing and helping some the richest and powerful people in the galaxy. During his travels he was infected with one Nurgles diseases. Although he managed to create a antidote to hide his physical symptoms, His mind never recovered.

With Nurgle whispering in his ear, Dr. Mortelus used his skills and celebrity to access high security facilities, He worked to disrupt The Imperium as a Bioterrorist, releasing contagiousness diseases across many planets with himself as the carrier.

When his ship was attacked by Hieronymous and his creations. Dr. Mortelus instantly knelt down to The Arch-Biosmith and pledged his allegiance to him. Hieronymous took the doctor under his wing and made him one of his lab assistants. Realising that he no longer had to hide his devotion to Chaos, Dr. Mortelus stopped taking his antidote and volunteered to have Hieronymous attempt to transform him into a daemon of Nurgle. Through a combination of Nurgles gifts and mechanical aid, he has managed to live far longer than any normal human. To this day he works as Hieronymous' Assistant Biosmith and Chief Medical Adviser. Dr. Mortelus has proved an invaluable ally to Hieronymous and relishes the twisted experiments on Bedlam almost as much as The Arch-Biosmith himself.

So that's my Herald of Nurgle finished :)
He has a lot of detail that doesn't quite come through in the pictures, I think he's my new favourite model. I'm happy because I've now got a hold of the idea and design for this army in my head. And writing the fluff (something I've never really done before) has helped/forced me to really flesh out the idea. At first it was pretty vague but I've now figured a lot of small details and the roles that the different units play in this army (you will find out more as I finish the relevant units)

I ordered some stuff to start making pink horrors. hopefully I'll have painted the last 2 bloodletters by the time my bits arrive, then I'll probably swap back and forth between building horrors and painting plaguebearers.

I'm loving this army more and more with every unit I finish :biggrin.: Edited by brettfp

Just a quick update

My last 2 bloodletters are done :smile.:

http://i.imgur.com/pMzNaYe.jpg

I still need to write up some fluff for these guys, will probably have it done by tomorrow with a group photo.

2 more Plaguebearers built. I'm trying to give each model their own personality, and I think these 2 have plenty. still need to add some tubes and stuff to the one on the right.

I've also started on my Herald of Khorne

http://i.imgur.com/25Xeg0d.jpg

He's gonna have servo harness style arms, This is gonna be a long project because I plan to scratch build a more mechanical Bloodthrone. I have it somewhat figured out, but even then it's gonna be a slow build. But that should mean plenty of WIP shots :smile.:

The Herald is comming along nicely, and will stand out well from the sort of pathetic, decrepit exmeriments that will be his minions. The mechanical Bloodthrone sound like a great idea and the lord of skulls blood vats seem an appropriate idea to pinch. A scratch built specimen tank with blood and skulls would be an ace and possibly core part.

Yesterday I played my first game with these guys (and my first game in about 8 years) It was just 20 power points and I was up against Space Wolves. I lost, mostly because my Herald of Nurgle failed EVERY SINGLE SAVE and my bloodletters rolled a 6 for morale. But Hieronymous showed why he is the warlord. He did more damage than everyone else combined, taking out a wolflord and a unit of grey hunters by himself, he was then eaten by wolves :(

It was fun though, and I have a better grasp of the rules now.

Thanks, Yeah if you read my first post that's sorta the whole idea is that everything looks different to each other. Yeah The lord os Skulls is probably a good place to start for inspiration

Thanks for the shout out in Kraut's thread, means a lot. :smile.: I think part of the problem is that being in Australia, the forum seems to be most active between like 3 and 6 am. so by that time this thread is on the second page.

Fantastic, gribbly conversions! The Herald of Khorne is looking really promising, and have no idea what a bloodthrone is but it sounds pretty gnarly, especially if you make it all mechanical like you suggested.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks. this is a Bloodthrone :smile.:

I came here on the advice of Mechanist and I am suitably impressed by your work, brettfp. Your conversions combined with your gnarly, yet detailed paint jobs - and the bits of continuous fluff you write make for a very John Blancheian atmostphere. I'm here to stay. :)

Thank you, Mechanist seems like a good egg :smile.:

It's nice when people can tell I'm going for Blanchitsu, means I'm doing something right!

This is amazing, glorious, and I will steal all of it!

Thanks, please do!

Plaguebearers are looking solid, nice and nurgely. Only thing I would say is that for the theme they might benefit from some more body horror medical stuff, maybe some implanted chemical vials. Do you have some of the Pox walkers? As I can see you doing some brilliant things with them especially the lab coats.

The Herald arms are coming along nicely too and I'll be eagerly awaiting
