Helbrute done!!

http://i.imgur.com/SsoDpgq.jpg

I think this guy is my new favourite :smile.: Everything came out just how I wanted it to!  especially the skin and the severed heads. I plan to write some fluff for this guy just like all the others, but figured I'd put up the pics now.

Cool looking forge fiend, I like the use of the dino skull! I think if you mounted the cerberites higher up the soul grinder legs could stick out more forward instead of sort of side ways like a crab. Looking forward to seeing the Hellbrute completed!

Thanks heaps!

The legs are actually being blocked by the body, if they were any further forward the ball joint wouldn't be touching the socket. I had originally planned to have them facing further forward But i Kinda like the crab look, It reminds me of the supporting legs that come out from the side of cranes and stuff, which makes sense for a daemon engine that is basically a gun platform :smile.:

Finished painting the Forgefiend

I'm really happy with this, especially plasma effects. I feel like this doesn't really need any back story, other than that the biomass is old failed experiments.

So far I've used it in 2 games and it has done nothing both times :(

Also finished building the soul grinder

I was gonna build a head for it, but it wasn't working, once again my creativity is greater than my skills, oh well.

C&C Welcome!

Should have commented here before, you have some really bizarrely cool chaos conversions in here, the last Helbrute is really cool, and I like the forgefiend melted bodies (though I'm not that sure about the head). Keep up the good work!

Thanks heaps and thanks for the feedback! yeah, the helbrute is my new favourite! I've gotten mixed responses to the forgefiend head. some agree with you that it doesn't quite fit but others think it looks good.

This entire thread is just great. When I first saw the sketches on pg1 I was skeptical, but you have your own demented aesthetic and I really enjoyed each post. I think it is getting better and better, and that forgefiend is my favorite so far. Keep it up, brother.

If you're building bigger things, the mauler/forgefiend legs are quite nice, as are the heldrake claws!

Thanks so much! Yeah the sketches were mostly for me to remember my ideas. I plan to keep it up but I'm gonna take a break from this army once i've painted my soul grinder to start an Ork army, but I'll definitely get back to them.

Considering how creepy some of my models are, that face is a bit unsettling :S haha

Good to see your progress is strong as ever. The forge fiend looks great but I think the star of the show will be the soul grinder it's coming along brilliantly.

Thanks as always. Yeah I'm hoping the soul grinder will be a good centrepiece :)

The soul-grinder has to be my favourite of the big machines it looks amazing.
Hope it plays well for you and doesn't die to new model syndrome achieving nothing.

I'm massively impressed with the turn around on these few I wish I could manage a could of weeks to get 3 bigish models done to a great standard like this.

Man you have some great stuff here. Really liking the Souldern grinder. The forge fiend is just something else, the heads/bodies around the neck.

Thanks, the heads and limbs thing was something i tried out on my GUO, but I think i really got it nailed on this guy!

Thanks, Yeah I've used my Forgefiend in 2 games and it has done nothing :(

I think the quick turn around comes from the way I paint, There's no edge highlighting or 'layering' like you see in most tutorials on any of the models, just drybrushing and washes which are both pretty quick. The most time consuming parts by far were painting the gold trim and waiting for washes to dry, as it's really cold here in Melbourne and some of them took a few hours to dry

That soul grinder gives me the creeps, great job! However I would add some blood to the connection between the bone claw and the arm, as you did with his spine, otherwise the transition between the bone and the body looks a bit weird...

Thanks, It looks even creepier in real life.

I actually fully intended to paint blood there, but I found that with such a big model I forgot to paint a lot of bits, I kept having to go back with a colour I had already done, I guess the hand just slipped through, I'm gonna fix it now :)

Great work on the soul grinder! The skin tones fit really well with the model, great creepy vibe overall!

The soul grinder looks amazing! I really love the flesh tones, looks disgusting in the best possible way!

Thanks guys! :) I've been getting a lot of compliments on my skin tones, which I find kinda funny because it's such a simple recipe. I can write it up if anyone wants to know it :)

  • 2 months later...

So I finally caved in and became one of the cool kids and started a death guard army :)

I figured instead of making a whole new thread I'd just add it to this thread and rename it, so it's not just my weird daemons, but all my chaos stuff.

I used to have a death guard army about 5 years ago, but I sold it all as I wasn't really in the hobby anymore and needed some cash, but oh well.

I'm not sure what inspired me, but i've always liked the idea of horde armies, but have never wanted to paint that many models, but I realised that pox walkers are detailed enough that I wont lose interest, but simple enough that i can paint them mostly with quick washes and still have them up to my normal standard I like my models. :)

So I'm gonna do a poxwalker heavy diseased tide army

Here's my first test model

sbrYhyY.jpg

took about an hour to paint, which I'm pretty happy with

Here's the rest, by adding in a bunch of zombie parts, I managed to stretch 6 poxwalkers into 10

rxwYeyj.jpg

I still need to do a small bit of GS and add some holes, erosion, etc. to the bells

not sure yet what i'm gonna do for the bases, should i go normal ground with a bit of disease appearing or full on plague planet?

any suggestions for what else I should get? (other than Typhus obviously) and bearing in mind i'm a converter/painter first, then a gamer

Finished painting my first 10 poxwalkers

Really liking how well the zombie parts worked :)

I also decided I was gonna use a Malignant Plaguecaster as one of my HQ choices, but I really don't like the model at all, So i'm making my own

4Xnyoo0.jpg

I used the plague surgeon as a base, but i scratched his needles off and replaced them with fingers. made a staff out of bits and added an ethereal plaguebearer head, whether its a spell or he's summoning it I'm not sure.

still got a fair bit of GS and details to add. I need to make his right arm look more bloated and less muscly.

His arms are blu-tacked on as I want to paint them separately. I think he's coming along nicely and doesn't have a stupid "OOOOOOOO" face like the normal model

Poxwalkers are really fun models to paint, I had a blast with mine. Also I love that your mixing parts to have really unique models!

Thanks, I know it might be ambitious for an army like this, but I like to never have 2 identical models.:ermm: could be interesting with poxwalkers Edited by brettfp
