++Horrific Abominations++

+The Maniacs Laboratory+

Okay so I'll try to keep this short. I've had an idea for a WIP and am looking for as much feedback as possible!!

I've always liked Daemons but I've always had one really big problem with them. The Chaos gods are supposed to be all powerful, daemon planets are literally indescribable landscape full of things that make mortal men go crazy at the sight of them. Yet each God could only come up with like 3 or 4 repeated designs for their footsoldiers.

Khorne has:

  •
  • Bloodletters
  •
  • Juggernauts
  •
  • Bloodthirsters (Big Bloodletters)
  •

Nurgle has:

  •
  • Plaguebearers
  •
  • Nurglings
  •
  • GUO's (Big nurglings)
  •

etc.

Now, obviosly I realise that this is necessary for the models, it would be crazy for every model to be completely unique. But that's what I'm gonna try and make with this blog!!!

My idea has evolved a lot since I thought of it. Currently I want to build a counts-as daemon army. But everything will look like experiments gone wrong. The idea is that an insane chaos marine has been trying to CREATE daemons by experimenting on cultist/captured troops and the army will be made up of his failed attempts.
Here are some ideas I drew up for bloodletters, using Vampire Counts Ghouls as a base

http://i.imgur.com/hyqaoSu.jpg

I plan to everything pretty obvious as to what it counts-as (which I feel is important for counts-as armies) this will also let me run a strong mulit-god list without the tabletop looking like someone dropped skittles all over it!

I'm going to include an allied detachment of CSM, pretty much as 'handlers'. I'll be running the creator 'Hieronymous' as a chaos lord. Fluff wise he is proper crazy (even by Chaos standards) think Fabius Bile crossed with Honsou with a bit of Dr. Frankenstein thrown in. He needs some kind of self-appointed title I'm thinking either "Arch-Biosmith" or "Malefic Genetor" but I'm very open to suggestions. Still have quite a bit of fleshing out to do.

He possibly used to be a warpsmith (probably Iron Warriors) but broke away on his own after going crazy. He now attempts to breed daemons (to varying degress of success) He is mostly a loner. His body guards will be Chaos marines, but model-wise and fluff-wise they will be little more than power armoured combat servitors.

I will hopefully start modelling soon but I ordered some bits online and they'll take a few weeks to get here. And I really feel like this idea needs fluff but I suck at writing fluff. I can do the broad strokes but I'm really bad at the small details and polish. So if anyone would be willing to help with that it would be great!

So, what do you think!?!?!?

Bloodletters are also great for those kind of conversions.

They're a bit bigger than ghouls...

Here I got two deamon princes that I did for my dark mech army.

The first is faceless (he got only mouth exposed) and the second one is Nurglish...

Interesting idea. GW's daemons are kinda limited in appearance due to them having to be compatible with fantasy and of course the reasoning you laid out. So giving your daemons/experiments mechanical components and some funky details sounds like a promising approach, especially since you don't see that very often. I've pondered something similar a while ago and bought a box of sicarian infiltrators to mix them with bloodletter, skeleton, and kroot bits, but I have yet to make a prototype.

Anyway, your concept looks great and I'd love to see you go ahead with it.

So I got my first bloodletter painted: The Faceless!!

I'm REALLY happy with how this came out and how well my painting is coming along, its crazy how much looking at a handful of tutorials changes your perspective on colour and how to apply paint. :biggrin.:

It definitely lives up to the disgusting-ness I had in my head.

3 guesses for who's painting style i'm trying to imitate

I finished the melta servitor. complete with bionic targeting eye made from a lasgun. I think he looks suitably chaos-y whilst still being servitor-y. http://i.imgur.com/mIO0Wtn.jpg

I'll be running these guys as standard Chaos Space Marines. They'll be Hieronymous' Retinue, with the Aspring Champion being his assistant. I'm gonna try and approach modelling the CSM the same way as I would if I was making an Inq28 force or something similar, giving each model it's own personality and style. (even though they'll all be based on marines)

I got a few other bits and pieces finished today, but nothing really worth showing yet.

I finished the first Iron Warrior Combat Servitor: Melta-Boy. I'm pretty happy with the weathering on this one

Well, I say Iron Warrior, I feel like they're more of a splinter group. I think the warband needs a name but I'm struggling to think of something. I need something that conveys that they're the experiments of a madman. (also so I can shorten the thread name so i can fit updates in it)

I also started building a few others

An IW standard bearer. A combat familiar for Hieronymous & Another bloodletter (just waiting on Kromlech mech-arms for him)

So saw the first post and was intrested.

Then the fist model and was all nicccceee.

And then the painted ones and sweet mother of...

Thats some excellent and twisted work you have going on.

I can recommend reading daemon world as inspiration as the daemon prince in that has loads of mechanical stuff going on and his minions Spawn in a similar form.

Thanks guys

@Mechanist - I might just do that. I was actually looking at black library today trying to figure out where to start. That seems like a good place.

@miteyheroes - Its nice someone recognizes exactly what I'm going for.

So I've been thinking and "Iron Aberrants" could work as a name for these guys. Thoughts?

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone.

A bunch of bits arrived so I've made a start on Hieronymous: The Arch-Biosmith of Bedlam

http://i.imgur.com/BaXBbud.jpg

He's got a Chaos Narthecium (Lightning Claw), Vestigal Plasma Arm and is dragging what will soon be another test subject (Still trying to figure exactly how to pose him. I plan to put the combat familiar I put up the other day on the base, but It's hard to get him to fit in a way that looks good. There's still a few bits of flair and what ever that I wanna add to him. The guardsman will have arms at some point too. All in all I think he's suitably imposing and mad scientist-y

Also finished another Combat-Servitor, this time with a banner

http://i.imgur.com/2EtWUTV.jpg

I'll probably make some more bloodletters tomorrow, unless the models I ordered for my Savlar Chem Dogs arrive in which case I'll be working on them.

@Mechanist - I took you're advice and bought Daemon World, hopefully will find some modelling inspiration. I also bought the Iron Warriors Omnibus, for more inspiration, mostly on how to write some backstory for these guys!

very cool progress and definitely hits the bill as a mad scientist.

I would advise getting the ultramarines omnibus as well, the library is a great way to get books you don't intend to Keep. Dead Sky, Black Sun is the first book Honso appears in and without it most of the short stories in the Iron warriors makes little sense, depending on how you handle story ordering and spoilers you could get away with just the one ultramarine story and possibly the last one as well which Honso is in.

++DX-11257Z++

The planet of DX-11257Z was discovered during the great crusade and was almost immediately deemed of no use to the Imperium. Located on the outer edge of the Eye of Terror, this small planet was almost entirely covered in harsh jagged mountains, save for a small flat rocky plains area the size of a small country. There was no plant or animal life present at all and the air was thin and only barely what you would call 'breathable'. The atmosphere was full of constant electrical storms which made reaching the planet's surface incredibly dangerous. There was however, evidence that it hadn't always been this way. The plains were littered with skeletons of both men and beasts and on one side of the valley, jutting out of the cliff side was a huge flat-walled stone fortress, which even then was ancient. Whoever had lived here, and what had caused the planet to become this way had clearly been long forgotten. The planet was added to the Imperial Database with a generic catalogue name, designated 'Dead World – Uninhabitable' and once again forgotten and left to rot. That is, until Hieronymous arrived centuries later...

So, that's just a bit of a teaser for the background I've been writing. It'll basically be explaining how Hieronymous went from standard Iron Warrior to Hermit Mad Scientist creating monstrosities from flesh :tongue.:.

I'd really appreciate some feedback as it's my first attempt at writing stuff.

I also finished painting another bloodletter

and built 2 more

I think the one with the gasmask face is my new favourite!! :smile.:
