Question about chaos planets

Im trying to write some backstory for my chaos warband and was unsure of some things. I figured this would be the place to ask

1. Can a chaos warband have a homeworld outside the eye of terror or would the Imperium just call down an exterminatus upon it?

2. Are all the planets in the eye of terror daemon planets or are there some random (probably uninhabited) ones floating around too?

Thanks in advance

1) Yes, absolutely. There are countless worlds that lie beyond Imperial control - the so-called "wilderness space" between the Sectors and sub-sectors that make up the Imperium. So long as your warband is situated on one of those worlds, and isn't stupid enough to either lead the Navy to it or cause so much trouble they actively send a fleet to find it, then there's no reason why they can't hide in regular space.

Alternatively, they could choose to hide in the Maelstrom or some other "mini Eye", but that's basically just being in the Eye of Terror with a different spawn point.

2) It's the Eye of Terror - anything's possible.

Some Chaos bands still rule their original homeworlds, the Fire Reavers and Brothers of Darkness being prime examples.

Remember the Imperium isn't like a nation with only exterior borders, there's massive gaps inside it that it doesn't control. And there's interior regions of space that have been forgotten.

With the Eye of Terror, the further in you go the worse it gets.

Should be good for either. Just remember, the deeper you are in the Imperium or in the Eye, the more likely that the big wigs care about you and you feel their influence strongly. That applies to Imperial pressure, Black Legion (or other legion) pressure, and the power of the Gods.

  • 3 weeks later...

Skallathrax was a comparatively nice world before the World Eaters and Emperor's Children selfdestructed on it.

I'm guessing it was a lot like Sera (the world that Gears of War takes place on) Nearly Earthlike but with some quirky weather anomalies and life forms.

Skallathrax was presented...Too briefly between Khârn and the World Eaters meeting on the surface with the Emperor Children "I won't start a fight, but I will finish it." But it seemed nice up until Khârn captured a EC battlecruiser and crashed it into the largest city ruining the ecosystem.

The Progenitors of my Nightblades actually came from a location beyond the galactic rim, having intentionally been in stasis for thousands of years after acquiring the geneseed tech from Deliverence Lost. In my mind I sort of pictured a abandoned Necron version of the Ark from Halo 3.
