EVENT - The Schism of Mars

Legio Ignatum has a Warmonger Titan, apparently stationed on Terra. A Warmonger Titan.

Guess what's gonna blow the bloody doors off on Olympus Mons.

Isn't a Warmonger just a long-range support version of an Emperor? I would have thought a full size Ordinatus unit would be more suited

Hm, perhaps. In any case I think it should be a joint effort to bring down the gates of Olympus Mons. Space Marine and Mechanicum strike teams going in to destroy external shield generators etc, leaving the gates vulnerable to bombardment, and Loyal forces battling to protect whatever device we use to break the gates open

Agreed. I'm working partly on the basis that Titans played a major role in breaking the Imperial Palace in canon, so they're certainly viable, and could certainly be deployed alongside Ordinati and all sorts of other forces.

Demus, I assume Niklaas will bring Tonarum along?

  • 2 weeks later...

Magma city is where it all kicked off after the Death of Innocence. The Noachis region got levelled by a titan legion. High Magos Ahotep's forge-city (Cassini crater) was destroyed by nukes. In Lunae Palus, the Deathbolts fortress got attacked, and they were driven to and besieged in the Mare Boreum. In the Athabasca Valles two titan legions fought to a stalemate. The forges of Maximal were attacked by Kelbor-Hal's Skitarii and combat servitors, and later besieged by Ordinatus units. In the Mare Tyrrhenum almost a million Skitarii clashed and fought to the death. The Ismenius Lacus forge-city got virus bombed by the Dark Mechanicum. The Ring of Iron was the scene of /massive/ ship battles, in canonverse the Solar Defense Fleet was forced to withdraw.

Magma City became the focal point of the resistance, and got bitterly sieged, the traitors spending entire titan legions to try and take it

Ok, so the plains beyond Magma City are still important, as Alexandros wrecks the Mortis detachment sent to take it.

Now, I'm thinking timeline-wise that intervention comes right after the Dragon of Autumn arrives and Alex learns of Daer'dd's fate. Then there are a couple of weeks for Alex to get a loyalist resistance underway across the Imperium. Then he makes planetfall, shortly followed by Niklaas. Cue a number of engagements before the Battle of the Mariner Plain sees Kelbor-Hal's army confined to Olympus Mons, and the Abyssii forces help to break it open shortly afterwards.

More or less full force. They're there for refit and repair after some campaigning, so not all their ships are in fighting shape, and that will be further exacerbated by the Death of Innocence. However, they will be able to bring to bear a full war maniple of the Legio Carnifex, a detachment from their Knight house, a Myrmidon cult under Archmagos Silon Rex, a Cybernetica cohort under Archmagos Crastus Mhal, an Ordo Reductor detachment under Archmagos Charon Discut. The Taghmata Mortera will also be able to bring to bear an Ordinatus unit. Would it help if I gave you a more complete list of Taghmata Mortera forces present at Mars?

Following an apparently similar design philosophy to the various patterns of Stormbird, the Warmonger is capable of transporting one hundred Astartes, and can carry vehicles and machine-creatures, as well as a formidable amount of firepower.
  • Various Drop Ships and Landers

Myrmidon Cult. Under Archmagos Myrmidax Silon Rex

Centurio Ordiantus. Under Magos Havelock

  • Ordinatus Nox: One, unique. A full-sized Ordinatus machine, armed with a weapon that represents a combination of the Abyssii's 'Rulebreaker' weaponry and their Fusion lance arrays, the aptly named ‘Ruin Cannon’ of the Ordinatus Nox is a terrifyingly effective weapon. Capable of wiping out an entire hive city in a series of reality-shattering detonations, and is quite able to engage enemy ships in orbit.
  • Ordinatus-Minoris Ulator: Two
  • Various Tech-Priests and Servitors

And of course, Mortera herself and her personal bodyguard of the Myrmidon Custos Prime Cohort

It certainly would.

Plus, what do you want to showcase about Abyssii on Mars?

On Mars I would like to showcase just how warlike the Abyssii are compared to their fellow tech-priests. Before they were discovered by the Great Crusade, the Abyssii were under almost constant attack by raiders and the like, which is part of why their first contact with the Imperium via a Drowned scout fleet turned violent. I want to showcase the precise savagery that defines their approach to war. In terms of individual characters, I want to showcase the extent of Archmagos Mhal's control over automata, Archmagos Discut's ruthless, methodical and merciless siegecraft, Archmagos Rex's unrelenting assaults, and of course, Archmagos Mortera Nagathiir's brilliant strategic mind and her sheer lethality in personal combat.

However I also want to showcase their weaknesses. Their unwillingness to accept a surrender from traitors. Their mercilessness, and their questionable adherence to the edicts set down by the Omnissiah. The Mechanicum Abyssii are fiercely independent, and are unlikely to accept commands from those outside their command structure. The extent of Archmagos Mhal's control over automata will be seen as miraculous by some (seeing him as Machine-Touched), and blasphemous by others (a heretical knowledge of some kind). Archmagos Discut's ruthless nature giving over to something approaching bloodthirst, especially towards traitorous elements of the Ordo Reductor. Archmagos Rex will make a very public show of executing each and every traitor within the Taghmata Mortera in something of a mirror of Raktra executing his legion's Chaplains, and will demonstrate a battlelust in excess of what is required of him. And Mortera will display intense ambition, making plays to further her own ends even in the midst of civil war on Mars, and is not above risking or sacrificing friendly forces outside her own Taghmata to do so.

Works for me. Perhaps they take care of another Insurrectionist army while Alex leads the advance on Olympus Mons.

I see there's a BL book coming up about Kane struggling to maintain what he considers his rightful importance, with Mars in Traitor hands. Should be handy to us when we consider him in control of the Red Planet.

Hmm. Well, any reinforcements will need to battle through the Ring of Iron/traitor Mechanicum ships/void automata/defense platforms, the presence of the Taghmata Mortera should at least help with that. In canon the traitors won the Schism of mars because the Solar defense fleet was driven off, so if the Taghmata's ships are able to disable enough of Mars' defenses...
