I've been hoping for this since the introduction of the Heart of Iron https://www.warhammer-community.com/2017/02/03/gathering-storm-iii-rise-of-the-primarch-first-look/ This is really a case of damned if you, damned if you don't. I'm glad GW just went ahead and very substantially advanced the plot. Yes, 40K is more of a setting, less of a linear story...but good story progression prevents current 40K from becoming very stale. As mentioned by DarkChaplain, they are probably waiting for the entire trilogy to hit first (as well as searching for an author or two to write it!). For those saying it will be retconed; no chance. GW are in full command this time, not having their scenario highjacked by a group of very clever gamers. One thing of note though; the GS1 storyline picks up where the official 13th BC campaign ended (as published on their website at the time) so they don't appear to have regated any of that campaign result, just continued where it left off. Maybe just a paragraph of the events and pain of the poison just before stasis. Then the moments coming out and him having to have a sitrep of the state of the Imperium. Would be nice. More pause than retcon it seems. Well played GW. Sadly I had high hopes too. But: we have zero totally 'new' titles for Horus Heresy till JUNE! Anthologies all over again. Authors write what they want to write - not so. There are a lot of unnessecary stuff and reprints again. LE again all the way in. No novels for the Gathering Storm! For feth sake it's Guilliman rise - and they does not have a novel! It seems that 2016 was an exclusion of release programme. Pre-release titles absent! At HH Weekender - the biggest HH event of the year - they had NOTHING! ZERO! Even previous 4 years they at least had an anthology for release :( And again - seems most of the releases would be at BL Weekender late November! But only after the 'Gathering Storm' (3 books) - so probably we will have something April-May? Plus it was long a dream of McNeil to write the resurrection of Buirlliman and at the same time destruction of Macragge. Sooo - maybe we will have our wishes come true? Maybe even a little bit later as a novel. Plus something tells me that in the next trilogy after the 'Gathering Storm' they will destroy Macragge. For Guilliman to go to Terra. AS of now - I think we will have a 12 month event. With 12 books like 'Gathering storm' - 1 book per month. And at least 2-3 novels to attend the truly CRUCIAL moments. For one: it's excellent. For two: it ties in fantastically well. (Well, thematically and conceptually it's spot on. Plotwise there's no Yvraine or Visarch or whatnot.) It's an ace novel. And it accompanies Gav Thorpe & Andy Chambers' Eldar novels brilliantly too (which would also help a lot, mood wise - the DE ones especially). Seriously. If you've not read them - check them out pronto. If you have read them, give them a re-read and chat about them 'coz I'm dying for good chat about this stuff. Valedor was a really good war story made from the eldar point of view. A lot of eldars on different Craftworlds worked upon Ynnead birth - on Biel-Tan, on Ultwe, on Iyanden etc. Valedor was an interesting warzone and what interesting - not long ago Guy Haley (whose Baal book would be released this October) said Valedor would have consiquences and impact on Baal defence. Nowadays it's like: HERE! GS 1! Cadia falls! Give us your money! oh wait HERE! GS 2! ELDAR UNIFY! GIVE US YOUR MONEY! and before I forget HERE! GS 3!!! RG RETURNS! GIVE! US! YOUR! MONEY! bonkers -.- One can't enjoy the fluff and it's consequences anymore. 'Cause next month, there's new stuff coming which will blow your head yet again. The story does not structured correctly. Some interesting events are rushed and take 5 sentences and others, like some pointless daemon invasion take several pages. It's pretty rushed to me, and until or if quality authors fill it out it leaves me a bit sour. Exactly.
