Still the most exciting thing to be kicking off this year, in my opinion. Horror is sadly too often absent from 40k, or just too blunt to be effective. Anything that brings that out and gives people like Peter Fehervari a chance to shine is fantastic news (although Fehervari has a non-WHH novel coming anyway).

Agreed, Peter Fehervari captures the horror of 40k pretty well in his novels. As you said in many novels the grim and dark aspects are either overdone which causes it to lose all impact or toned down to sell the imperium as "heroes."

I only read my first PF novel recently and throughly enjoyed it. It captured 40k and especially the imperium Nihilus wonderfully.
I am though sceptical of the ability of many writers to pull something like that off well. PF very obviously has a particular skill set around creating dark and complex mysteries. This has been his writing style since he started and I can’t think of other authors with a similar style for this. I dread the horror series as it could see authors attempting to change their, in my view very accomplished, styles to try to suit this genre. And I think authors changing styles rarely works. Or it will see gore bolter porn on acid, which is just not my cup of tea I’m afraid!
But perhaps I will be proven wrong and we will see authors able to radically change their approach and not loose quality....

Everything T'au he writes is unintentionally pure horror. :D

Disclaimer:

If my posts appear rude to you, I apologize. It's not meant to be rude in any way, it's just the way folks are in my country. It's really more about being direct than being rude. I know how it's perceived in the english speaking community and I already try to tone it down but I barely notice when it's too much since it's normal for me.

So yeah, I'm really not rude it's basically just cultural differences that act against me here. Again, I apologize.

Turned in the first draft of THE HOUSE OF NIGHT AND CHAIN, my first full-length novel for the Warhammer Horror line, and I had so much fun writing this, I should probably be fined.

That is the best book Black Library have published IMO. 40k or otherwise.

As much as I enjoyed it I wouldn’t go that far. But each to their own!

For all the crap Annadale gets, he seems the perfect fit for this line. Good to see he's doing so.

I was looking at the upcoming releases on the black library site earlier and I'm fairly sure it is listed for May

Usually it’s been updated by now. Perhaps they are having a rethink on how far in advance they announce new releases.

The Nightfane thread got me thinking about the HH main series compilations. With Buried Dagger being the last in the series before going onto the seperately labelled siege mini-series what is likely to become of these HH audios and shorts that have been released more recently and aren't compiled? Also i believe there is still a handful of older stuff not yet added to the main series. Has there been any indication from BL if we still have more compilations to come?

So Buried dagger is flagged as the last "Novel", so I imagine one or two more collections will be added later down the line to mop up the last few things.

Honestly though I think that once the siege is done we will get more Heresy Novels, they have always spoken about the Heresy as a setting not a series so I doubt they will just abandon it once the siege is done.

I'm assuming there will be more compilation anthologies, whether they're under the heading of the Siege or the Heresy more generally.

Sons of the Emperor has now been released more generally as a Primarchs anthology, and it's fair to assume Scions of the Emperor may go the same way. The Honoured and The Unburdened are apparently not being collected into the main series.

Setting these aside, we still have 2 novellas and 22 shorts not yet collected. That alone is likely more than a full anthology's worth. And there's no doubt going to be more released over the next few years of the Siege. The rate over the past few years has averaged about 18 short stories per year. It might slow down during the Siege, or it might speed up. But still, if they really do intend to collect everything, I'm expecting at least another 3 or 4 anthologies before it's all truly over, and there could well be more than that.

Looks like they're cutting back a month on the Coming Soon section after all, which is pretty disappointing. Perhaps they could use the time to update the Best Sellers list?

Not that I see the point of cutting it back. Amazon already spoils releases months ahead of time, if I'm going to know about them anyway I'd prefer to have an accurate date and release format right away.

Couple of new releases I found:

The Horus Heresy: Siege of Terra: Book 2 by Guy Haley-October

The House of Night and Chain- David Annandale-October ( the Warhammer horror novel I believe)

Terminal Overkill (Necromunda) - Justin Hill- October

Synopsis:

In the polluted, sprawling hive cities of Necromunda, life is short. From the decadent heights of the Spire to the murderous deeps of the Underhive, those on the climb must be bold and brutal, or face a violent end

When the barbarous Fettnir, Goliath overlord of the Chemfall Butchers, turns his attention to Escher territory, the result is nothing short of a massacre. Brielle of the Wild Hydras, escapes the slaughter and is cast into the deepest levels of the Underhive. Determined to avenge her family, Brielle vows that she will end those responsible, but to reach Fettnir and the bounty hunter who murdered her mother, she must first survive… and the darkness is full of horrors.

Here's the blurb from the Simon and Schuster website. Tells you _most_ of what you need to know.
