Hello denizens of BnC, this is the start of a thread to chronicle my 30k journey building an army of Thousand Sons, as well as a few allied detachments from different factions. I've been meaning to start 30k for a long time and the Thousand Sons always appealed to me, and with the release of the limited Praetor Tribune last year I bit the bullet and began collecting, starting off by converting the tribune into a librarian. Since the release of Burning of Prospero, my collection of 30k era warriors has grown and I've decided to start this thread to document my process.

So today I have my Varagyr terminators, which is what everybody expected when they opened a thread titled 'Thousand Sons':

And number 2, who's fur tabard is still WIP.

The Varagyr here are set to run as an allied attachment to my thousand sons (the irony is not lost on me) along with a Space Wolves centurion, because of storyline reasons based around my homebrew character for the Thousand Sons.

Hopefully the squad of five will be finished in the next two weeks or so, and in between then I'll actually photograph my Thousand Sons and this thread will start looking like you'd expect from the title, haha.

C+C encouraged and appreciated! I hope to see some of you taking an interest, cheerio for now

Aren't Varagyr in Cataphractii?

Conversions are great though, Geigor's claw works brilliantly on that suit

I'm not totally sure, I've only seen the rules that came out in Inferno that states they're terminators with frostblades so I made them with my favourite which happens to be tartaros. They could very well be Cataphractii, if that is the case I can just use them as proxy

Thank you for the compliments! Was very happy with how Geigor's frost claw fit the tartaros arm!

Hey all,

Finally managed to take some decent photos of T'kar, currently he's bare of paint but soon I should have a shipment arriving that will let me paint him and other TSons up.

Without further ado:

He's based on the pieces of artwork that feature T'kar.

I think I've nailed him pretty well, bar the design on his faceplate and his (if you ask me rather silly) flared up collar.

Hopefully I can take some more pictures of my other Thousand Sons, and also take better pictures of my Varagyr as they were photographed with flash on just after being built.

As always C+C appreciated and encouraged

Hey all! Here with some Thousand Sons goodness in the form of the Cataphractii Primus Medicae, lightly kitbashed to add some more Prosperan flavour

And finally my long awaited shipment of Tamiya PS15 metallic red has finally been delivered, so my first veteran is up to be painted!

WIP on my Thousand Sons veteran sergeant. Think it's going well but buggared up the chest a little bit, thankfully I managed to recover it a little bit by concealing with a transfer. Reckon it's gonna take a bit of practice but it'll certainly be worth it in the end when I have a whole force of these guys!

I'm using Kizzdougs' technique, which involves basecoating in Tamiya PS15 metallic red, then using Abaddon black to 'black line' the recesses. It works pretty well although for a slow painter like me the blacklining can be pretty time consuming, I think I might experiment with using Nuln Oil instead

Been a while folks! Don't worry, I've not shied away from my work on these Thousand Sons. I've finished my veteran sergeant from earlier in the thread, and this week I just finished converting a new Praetor!

Introducing 1st Sergeant Konarik Amun Tutet-RÄ, of the Second Fellowship. Equerry to Phosis T'kar, Tutet is a powerful psyker and rumoured to be T'kar's successor as Magister Templii of the Cult Raptora. While originally serving as a member of the Khenetai Occult and brandishing his artificer-made force-khopeshs(as shown in these images), Tutet and the rest of the 1st squad were awarded the prestigous honour of wearing terminator armour after their heroic actions displayed on Kamenka Troika.

So that means at some point I'll be converting another model for this same guy, wearing a different set of armour! I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully I'll get pictures of Veteran Sergeant up soon, at the moment my camera is refusing to cooperate.

CnC welcome and appreciated

More honour for the XVth legion!

After reading the title and seeing the SW pictures at first I got the Obi-wan moment.

giphy.gif

Haha! I thought it would be pretty funny to put the Space Wolves first and the KSons later, glad to see I got someone for a second ;) Luckily the wolves are only gonna be a 5 man squad and a praetor

He looks mean!

Liking that Praetor, the head is spot on.

Thanks for the kind words! I'm very proud of the head choice actually, as soon as I saw it hanging around on the custodes sprue I knew it was perfect for what I had in mind

Finally got some decent photos of my veteran sergeant, my first model painted for this army

Introducing 4th Sergeant Altayr Zacari, 'Hammer of Dawn'. Notable for rising to a high rank within his fellowship by merit of his actions, not his psychic ability - of which Zacari possessed none. Similarly, he selected squad mates based on their actions, leading to Squad Zacari becoming a mixed bag of psykers and non psykers alike.

Zacari perished in the final moments of the Battle of Prospero, using his thunder hammer to smash through a load bearing pillar and bringing a ceiling down on top of himself and a pack of Fenrisian wolves, saving the rest of his squad at the cost of his own life. What happened to Zacari's body after his death is unknown.
