The Legion of Vice: 40K Emperor's Children and friends...

Evil Eye

Recommended Posts

So I thought I might as well get on and start a modelling blog, as I've got many, many models on the go and getting them on the forums might speed me up a bit. I should warn you that I am a very, VERY slow painter, so don't expect frequent updates.

Anyway, let's get started shall we?

First, let's take a look at some dull grey plastic. These are all the models that haven't got any paint on them yet (half-painted ones will be posted later).

Sael Ikyther:

A sorcerer of Slaanesh, and the favoured seer of Patroklos the Half-Breed. You may remember him from some of the Inspirational Friday pieces I did, and here he is in model form (albeit slightly different from his description in the fluff).

http://i.cubeupload.com/N8D112.jpgHe's made using the most generic CSM parts I could find, coated in a robe of greenstuff (which needs sanding once I have some fine sandpaper).http://i.cubeupload.com/Paa2Xv.jpgCloseup of his ugly mug. It's actually a bare Tau head with the eyes puttied over and the ponytail trimmed off.

http://i.cubeupload.com/q1B5m1.jpgHe uses Hellstrider parts for his staff and the arm holding it. I'm considering adding something to his backpack but I'm not sure what.

Unnamed Chaos Lord "Androgyne":

I went for a very androgynous look for this model, with a Daemonette head mounted on a modified Hellstrider body. The legs and sword are Possessed parts, and the chain is from a broken bit of jewellery.http://i.cubeupload.com/eL4VxX.jpgHe/She/It was quite an involved conversion, as it required c utting away the legs and pelvis of a Hellstrider.

http://i.cubeupload.com/vNH9oH.jpgI decided to leaver it without a backpack, as I didn't want it looking too busy. The pile of scrap it's chraging over is a junker Rhino back door torn into pieces with my bare hands (it's made of the older, more rubbish plastic GW used to use).

http://i.cubeupload.com/b4kIWJ.jpgOf course, it wouldn't be Slaanesh without some asymmetrical breasts.

Chaos Space Marines/Noise Marines:

I try and make every single model a character in its own right, and as such even the most minor model is converted in some way.

http://i.cubeupload.com/ecDjRc.jpgNoise Champion. A mix of Possessed and Hellstriders with the resin Doom Siren and a Raptor shoulder pad.

http://i.cubeupload.com/hkYfqh.jpgUnfinished Noise Champion, I need to give him a shoulder pad and a Doom Siren,

http://i.cubeupload.com/y26iGW.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/1xZYoY.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/m1u4hw.jpgNoise Marine with kitbashed blastmaster. Needs some more work on the detail. Blastmaster is made from a Tau plasma rifle, a Genestealer head, putty, styrene and copper tube, with cables courtesy of a Tyranid devourer and a bit of wire.

http://i.cubeupload.com/uOXGNq.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/8y9oZE.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/Z9WvsR.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/VIlUGk.jpgNoise Marine with farcically large blastmaster, made from all sorts of bits and pieces.

http://i.cubeupload.com/0iMVZd.jpgNoise Marine with resin blastmaster. I must admit, I do like the sculpt- I just wish it wasn't the only one available.

http://i.cubeupload.com/18ZAoQ.jpgNoise Marine with sonic blaster. Unless SBs get massively buffed he'll stay in Heralds of Ruin. The back trophy is from a metal Chaplain, who will be showing up later...

http://i.cubeupload.com/t8ibde.jpgStandard Marine with a shield from the Hellstrider kit. Probably completely useless in a firefight but good for melee, and it looks cool.

http://i.cubeupload.com/jlDBQL.jpgChaos Marine with a Hellstrider helmet. The skull was a spare from the WD Slaughterpriest model.

COntinued in part 2...

Continued from part 1:

Raptors and Bikers, oh my!:

http://i.cubeupload.com/12mgAi.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/cd1xDC.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/jkk3uu.jpgRaptor number one. I needed the speaker grille shoulderpads and a lot of the helmets for Noise Marines so he has the "skull" helmet from the CSM sprue and a spiked pauldron made with cocktail sticks. The pose is inspired by the 3.5 edition codex art, AKA what everyone thinks the metal Raptor models looked like (and I wish they did!).

http://i.cubeupload.com/l1Yzgl.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/cfpKKb.jpgRaptor number two, with a Possessed helmet. All my Raptors will have the taloned feet but I'm not sure if they should have the winglets...

http://i.cubeupload.com/Ed3ydc.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/5yzJIH.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/UOmx4y.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/WqiHdL.jpgBiker champion. Could possibly be a Lord if I felt like it, but IMO a lord should have far more bling.

Concluded in part 3, aka "Hang on, I thought this was an Emperor's Children blog?"

And finally...

"Wait a minute, that's not Slaanesh!":

http://i.cubeupload.com/iWyAId.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/pf96r3.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/dKP1co.jpg

Plague Marine of the Congregation of Filth (the Legion of Vice's Nurglite allies). Clutching what could either be a shield or an icon. Backpack has horrible fungal spume pods for exhausts. The crusty skin was just a dab of Martian Ironearth.

http://i.cubeupload.com/oMs31D.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/RQIFMd.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/bTF0VL.jpgPlague Marine number two. Gut was made from a halved bead puttied over, whilst the mutant bolter was spliced with Tyranid bits to make it look alive. The piece of meat is from the Kroot sprue.

http://i.cubeupload.com/gqNn6r.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/vs3zUs.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/z8DaL0.jpgUnnamed Khorne lord, made from leftover parts from my WD Slaughterpriest. The Tyranid plates on the waist were intended to make him look bigger and bulkier without futzing with his actual proportions. I'm not sure if he'll be an actual World Eater or from an original warband, probably the latter as the Congregation of Filth are going to be primarily red.

There are other unpainted models (notably a Land Raider, a Rhino and a Nurgle Raptor Lord) but I forgot to photgraph them. :biggrin.:

Next time: Semi-painted models! There's a lot...

@Doghouse: Thank you very much! The Daemonette-headed lord (lady?) is one of my favourites actually. It was a lot of fun to put together too.

@WarriorFish: Heh heh, don't worry, they'll be getting painted. Though first I need to wait for the weather to not suck so I can actually prime them. :D

One thing I'm wondering about, actually, is what colour to paint the sonic weapons. I'm thinking they should be metallic but I'm not sure what colour. I've got a few ideas:

1: Brass, like actual musical instruments.

2: Chrome/silver, as if they were hot-rod parts (or again, like some musical instruments).

3: Dark bronze (like some of the other weapons in my force).

4: Give them each individualized "hot-rod" candy colour schemes, as if each weapon was as much a customized work of art as a tool of war.

Once I get home (at college ATM) I'll hopefully upload some pics of some of the partially and completely painted models, assuming I don't forget. :P I'll probably leave out the ones that are just basecoated and focus on the ones that are well on their way to completion.

I realise this is mostly a Slaaneshi thread, but I freaking LOVE your Khorne guy - killer combination of bits there. I think a few adjustments could be made to improve him, but seriously... the second I looked at that front view I went "daaaamn, this guy is the business!"...

+edit+

Also, just re: your colour choices on the sonic weapons, I vote 4; a mix of brass, gold, silver and chrome in no discernible pattern or consistency.

Great stuff!

I vote for a mixture of styles with the sonic weapons. :tu:

I love your biker but the one thing I wasn't keen on was the spikes on the ends of the handlebars.

I'd keep the jump pack winglets for when/if you do Warptalons in the future. But I agree on flawed feet for Raptors!

Thanks everyone!

@Draakur: Glad you like him! I'm not so sure on the pose but I don't think I can repose him now. In any case I'm quite pleased with how he came out for an "impulse build".

@Kierdale: Raptors have to have the clawed feet; it's one of the unwritten rules of Chaos modelling. I really want to build the other three Raptors I have at the moment but I'm not sure what I should outfit them with; I don't have any lists with Raptors in them ATM (can the Raptor Talon formation be used in an Emperor's Children army?) and I don't know what's the best loadout for them. A meltagun or two seems like a good idea, and the champion might get a power lance...

I think I will save the winglets for other models (I've seen some really cool stuff done with those parts), but as for Warp Talons, if I ever make any they'll be a bit more involved than just Raptors with claws and winglets...In fact they may not use Raptors as base models at all!

Oh if only Warp Talons weren't so awful. Such a cool concept...

As for the biker, the handlebar spikes were a result of me wanting to make it extra clear he was the champion, and noticing the ends of the handlebars were the exact same size as the CSM kit's skulls on spikes. Plus, as my mother always says, you can never have too many skulls. How well it worked is up for debate- I quite like them myself, but I can see the argument against them.

I'll try and get some photos of some models with paint on them up very soon- I had a long day yesterday so I was alas unable to summon up the energy to do so.

Update time!

So I took some photos of the various PIP (and the very rare fully painted) models. Unfortuntaely I tried to do so in natural light and as such the pictures...kinda suck. I can assure you they don't look quite this bad in person.

Anyway...

The few, the proud, the actually complete models.

http://i.cubeupload.com/aIHPoU.jpgThe fully painted Daemonettes + a Herald of Slaanesh. I really shouldn't have taken this picture on the windowsill.

http://i.cubeupload.com/7fWbdC.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/gsoJfH.jpgMy personal favourite of the Daemonettes. I actually really like the kit, there's a surprising amount of fun to be had with assembling them.

http://i.cubeupload.com/QneBG5.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/MlLelG.jpgThe Herald of Slaanesh. I got the idea for the claws off of an exotic shrimp I saw a pic of on the net.

http://i.cubeupload.com/mJMSVM.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/aGDnWd.jpgThe only CSM I've actually finished thus far. He looks a bit ropey but he is better in person. I think I need to touch his base and packpack up though.

And now, the WIPs...

http://i.cubeupload.com/BC3suk.jpgThe CSM who's closest to completion. Just need to do the last bits of detail and do his base up. And no I have no idea what those fibres are.

http://i.cubeupload.com/b7XXQU.jpgA CSM in the throes of mutation/imminent spawndom. The armour and spurting fluid needs a lot of work, though the flesh is looking alright.

http://i.cubeupload.com/r4iKDM.jpg

This Marine has a converted Nurgle helmet- the eye lenses were painted silver before being clear coated. I imagine they work a bit like Pyrovision goggles.

http://i.cubeupload.com/eo66ya.jpgGroup shot of the unfinished CSM squad.

http://i.cubeupload.com/6klrNP.jpg

Unfinished Daemonettes so far. Those corests are nightmares to paint- I saw a conversion somewhere that dremeled most of them off, and I might try that with the next box I get,

http://i.cubeupload.com/ilg5to.jpg

Unit musician, with horrible, fleshy, oddly phallic instrument.

http://i.cubeupload.com/vCUnFJ.jpgBanner. Eyes are fun to paint.

Part 2 coming up...

Dreadnought!

http://i.cubeupload.com/nmqJYA.jpgThis is one of the most fun to paint models I've had in a while. He's nearly finished too!

http://i.cubeupload.com/BU7OwO.jpgCloseup of the plasma coils. I should probably have painted them last, as now I have to make sure I don't get paint on them when I'm doing the rest of the cannon.

http://i.cubeupload.com/Tb9eiC.jpgI wanted this guy to look ancient and battle-weathered, and so out came the weathering powders and washes. Note the World Eaters helmet on the trophy rack.

http://i.cubeupload.com/M9AkuP.jpgThe helmet is painted bronze to tie in with the Terminators I'm doing (pics of them later).

http://i.cubeupload.com/h32Pox.jpgAnd finally, the base. Still need to paint the shell cases and the skull.

I know my painting isn't exactly the best, but again I must emphasize these are awful pictures. I need to take some more photos really.

Thank you Biohazard! I really didn't like the static positioning of the CCW out of the box so I chopped it up and rebuilt it with brass rod. I need to disguise the join but fortunately I have just the part for it. The trophies were fun too, I like to put extra work into the trophies of my models. I'll probably put some Sons of Horus/Black Legion trophies on other models, as a little bit of consolation over the Legion Wars.

Coming up soon (hopefully): Terminators, this time actually competently photographed!

Thanks! The claws are pretty simple actually.

1: Coat with black.

2: Do a fairly liberal highlight on the claw ridges with your secondary colour (for example, Squig Orange).

3: Do a second, sharper highlight with a brighter colour (Fire Dragon Bright).

4: Coat with a clear paint similar to the highlight colours (Tamiya Clear Orange or FW's clear orange colour).

Update time!

So I tried taking pictures in the kitchen again, and I have to say it definitely worked better. Well, a bit anyway.

First up, a familiar face, the now named Zamaella Silkenthighs, Herald of Slaanesh! (Surname pinched wholesale from a White Dwarf issue.)

http://i.cubeupload.com/xn4Wgu.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/SzgKRT.jpg

And now for those WIP Terminators, known as the Pale Hands...

http://i.cubeupload.com/ZrR2ge.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/w5yVNj.jpgTerminator Number One, AKA "Edward Chainsawhands". There's something magical about a paired up chainfist and chainsaw-bayonet. The hands on the shoulders are from Genestealers.

http://i.cubeupload.com/6rGv0n.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/tphvKp.jpgTerminator Number Two. Armed with a Reaper Autocannon and a power sword, the latter of which is represented via a chain-greatsword made from spliced together CSM chainswords. Ironically enough, despite having the long-range weapon, his helmet is blind.

http://i.cubeupload.com/AYi8Ym.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/lT00gp.jpgTerminator Number 3. The lightning claw is made from a power fist with Carnifex carapace blades for claws. If you hadn't guessed already, the unifying theme for the unit is a boney white left hand/claw/fist.

http://i.cubeupload.com/SAbqD2.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/JPdrUO.jpgTerminator Number Four, with an Icon of Excess on his back. I went for a "parchment" look to the icon as I am nowhere near talented enough to do a freehand "painting" on the banner.

http://i.cubeupload.com/9cjrbL.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/AIYlIP.jpgTerminator Champion Bruton. The various chromed details (like the skulls and the "spine") are Humbrol enamel chrome silver- the horns on his shoulder pad got very gentle stripes of FW clear paints to give the psychadelic look to them. Far out, man. The mutated claw is made from a Ravener head and various Tyranid/Chaos Spawn parts.

Next time (to preserve the image limit): An Obliterator, another non-Slaaneshi thing, and a very special guest indeed!

More models! Hooray!

First up, an Obliterator, mostly basecoated but with some additional work done (albeit mostly on his back)...

http://i.cubeupload.com/mYJVNt.jpg

http://i.cubeupload.com/ofeFYp.jpgI'm not going to lie, I love these models, even if everyone else hates them. :P

Next, a decidedly non-Slaaneshi entry, an as yet unnamed Raptor Lord of the Congregation of Filth! (Unpainted)

http://i.cubeupload.com/TvX18H.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/xDEYLG.jpgConverted from an old jump pack Chaplain model I had lying around. The belly plate looks better in person- the spore pod/crumpet on his chest does not. The claw thing was actually a replacement for a piece from the Possessed sprue, which pinged off into the depths of my workspace, so I made this new version from the "swordface" from the Chaos Spawn kit.

And finally, the one I've been itching to show you...

*Fanfare*

Patroklos, the Half-Breed King, Overlord of the Legion of Vice!

http://i.cubeupload.com/kDDT75.jpgNearly finished, and looking properly regal even with missing detail and a messy base.

http://i.cubeupload.com/tzP6tV.jpgA bit more of a closeup on his torso and heavily scarred face.

http://i.cubeupload.com/1yF50L.jpgEXTREEEEEME  CLOSEUP. In all seriousness I'm really pleased with how his face came out- the photos aren't doing it justice at all.

http://i.cubeupload.com/IsN36D.jpgHis weapon of choice, the Kai Plasma Caster (AKA the Burning Brand of Skalathrax- no way is he dirtying his hands with the weapon of that filthy mongrel Khârn!). Painting plasma coils is fun. Photographing them is not.

http://i.cubeupload.com/92HnQm.jpgHis royal cloak, complete with white fur, chains and trophies at the ends of said chains. Attached from left to right are the hand of a Genestealer Patriarch from the Iscandes Incursion, the chromed skull of Saint Lucielle, and a bag containing the teeth of the Farseer of Craftworld Aldenar.

http://i.cubeupload.com/0jRF91.jpgHis lighting claw, replacing an older model made (badly) from Plasticard, which...broke, This one is made from chopped up metal Talos spikes. The winged claw is made from a random trophy part and the wing from the Dark Angel helmet on one of the trophy racks.

http://i.cubeupload.com/bE252m.jpgAnd finally, a WIP sonic hand cannon, to be counted as a combi-bolter with the Bolts of Ecstatic Vexation in the event I feel the need to give him that. Can you use "vanilla" CSM artefacts in a Traitor Legions Emperor's Children detachment? I hope so...

Constructive criticism, destructive criticism, mockery and vulgar threats appreciated as always. :P

  • 1 year later...

So I finally got round to taking a few more pictures. My apologies for the necrobump, but I thought it was better to revive my existing thread than start another one.

Anyway, some of the more interesting things I've been doing since I last posted (that aren't just tiny updates to stuff you've already seen):

Noise Champion! (Very WIP)

http://i.cubeupload.com/2NjhIW.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/SpW6nH.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/iJ6TZL.jpgHe's based on a Kakophoni model with different arms (and a new backpack, see below). He's still very much incomplete and in need of paint touchups but he's coming along OK. The chromed up parts are done with Molotow's wonderful Liquid Chrome markers, though the flash on my camera somewhat negated the effect. The sword I did to look like it was coated in virulent toxins in true EC fashion. The sword hand meanwhile was painted to look like a latex glove for maximum ick factor.

http://i.cubeupload.com/KNfAWI.jpgThe backpack/doom siren, a simple conversion which adds a fair bit to his silhouette when attached (probably should have photo'd that. Oh well).

A rulesless thing that will probably count as a Chaos Spawn! (Unpainted and NSFW!)

http://i.cubeupload.com/WDyNJ6.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/kHFUkw.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/VVUQCG.jpgMade from Bragg the Gutsman, with assorted parts from my expansive Bitz Box. The belly plate is a Hellstrider shield, and the crotch mouth (which was originally intended to be a straightforward Chaosy belly mouth but turned into something more Slaaneshi more or less by accident) is made from Ork skulls and a Steed tongue. Fluffwise, he's the invention of the chief apothecary/wannabe Fabius Bile of the Legion of Vice, Ophidus the Skinmaster (yet to be represented in model form). An attempt at creating an easy to manufacture rival to the new Primaris Astartes, the result was phenomenally strong and nigh-unkillable, but deformed of body and mind- heavily mutated and with a simple yet deranged psyche, the creature has the sadistic mind of a cruel child backed up with the brute strength of corrupted Astartes gene-seed. It exists solely to satiate its depraved desires, and Ophidus looks on his creation with twisted pride.

And finally, the beginnings of a Contemptor (and new photos of my still-in-painting-limbo Dreadnought)!

http://i.cubeupload.com/5Y2pO2.jpgMade primarily from Tyranid parts built around the core of a broken Transformer toy. Lots of green stuff and extra parts will be needed obviously, as will arms and a head.

oEgGOV.jpgD8xUuB.jpgAnd some new pics of my Dreadnought, desperately in need of a clean- he's somehow accumulated a huge amount of dust!

Your Noise Champion is looking really cool. I like the colour scheme you've gone for, the pink and blue compliment each other really nicely.

And your Chaos Spawn is a really clever idea! I love the base model, the head just fits really well with the Slaaneshi theme. I might have to steal that idea for my own Emperor's Children army.
