Well this is what I've got after some digging in the fluff: The trickster of Ultramar is alive after all! In the audio-drama, Strategem, Aeonid Thiel arrives on Maccrage at last and meets with Roboute Guilliman. He is greeted with suspicion at first (due to the Alpha Legion agents posing as him during Guilliman's assasination attempt), however he quickly confirms that it is himself truly. He then goes into a discussion with Guilliman about the changing nature of the Ultramarine legion and how they must adapt in order to fight this new war. He is actually a crucial inspiration to Guilliman's decision to write the Codex Astartes and break up the Legions into chapters. He now leads a group of Ultramarines known as the "red-marked". They are all rule-breakers and were sent to the detention cells to be punished for their disobidience. However, Thiel recognizes that in order to fight an enemy like Chaos, the Ultramarines needed soldiers that thought unconventionally and did not follow the established rules. The "red-marked" then go on to foil a major plot by the Word Bearers and World Eaters remnants left behind by the shadow crusade to wreak havoc across Ultramar (detailed in the audio-drama, Red Marked). Deathfire came out in 2015 and covered what Thiel had been up to (though I'm guessing in not as much detail as Red Marked) so he's been confirmed alive since then. Brother Tyler Posted February 18, 2017 Share Posted February 18, 2017 The title of this topic is misleading. Sure, Thiel is alive during the time of the Horus Heresy (for now). We'll see if he survives the Horus Heresy. It would be very interesting if he survived and was granted mastery over one of the Primogenitors. At the very least, being part of the inspiration for the Codex Astartes as a whole as well as specific portions of the Codex Astartes would be a strong legacy. Becoming a Chapter Master would be even better (I'm surprised we haven't seen a "Sons of Thiel" Chapter). Located in this forum, however, it implies that Thiel is still living in M41.
