Rangdan Xenocides: any info from Inferno?

If one decides to take the hint that Legions II and/or XI were effectively destroyed during the Rangdab Xenocides, their subsequent expunging from the record takes on a new, at least to me, significance.

For the Astartes, violent death is their expectation and one they are conditioned not to fear. That their deeds will live on will be the closest to a hope in an afterlife that most will have, given the atheistic Imperial Truth. With the strong esprit de corps that Legionaries are portrayed to have, the everlasting glory of their Legion is probably a stronger motivator for many Astartes than personal glory. Therefore, the threat that, should you fail badly enough, all the glory of your entire Legion will be wiped away, as if it had never been, would seem like the harshest sanction possible. The fate of the lost legions would lurk at the back of the minds of the other legions, spurring them to avoid the same ignominy.

In summary, the point of expunging those legions from the record was not cover up and secrecy but to make an example of them, having suffered the ultimate censure for their failure; other legions needed to remember that those had been "forgotten".

If the Lost Legions were wiped out during Rangdan and their records expunged to preserve morale and propaganda, that would strengthen the reference to the lost Roman Legions..

It's also possible that the Rangdan Xenos had something to do with daemons/the Warp. Maybe the wolves became something like the Lightning Bearers after that, specialised with secretly hunting Warp-spawn. Would explain the rapid construction of the Fang..

I always wondered if the mind controlling abilities would work on Astartes...meaning what if the reason for the extreme losses in both DA and SW were at the hands of one of the two legions.

That would be kinda cool to me, and explain why all records of them were purged

Nah, the times don't fit. The rest might be right, but the rapid construction of the Fang, and the self sufficiency of the Wolves, was established well before the Xenocides.

Personally, I'm doubting the Rangdan Xencoides being the reason for the Lost Legions. It's just too on the nose from FW, after so much subtlety and vague hints the answer being given as 'Legions [REDACTED] lost to the Imperium' just doesn't add up for me. Especially if they do want to cover the Xenocides in detail at some point, they'd have to give away the answer to the one question the Compnay seems to seriously want to leave mysterious. Frankly I think FW are just trolling us at this point.

I think they're leaving it ambiguous, allowing each person to 'choose' what happened to the Lost Legions from the range of hints.

Yep, hints and multiple potential readings of the information provided aren't trolling, they're simply techniques employed to perpetuate an air of mystery.
