hushrong: He's quite the character. The sisters are an easy fix, but it means I need to buy yet another box of bases. :biggrin.:

Here's a scale shot of how the Word Bearer's terminators look next to an astartes in power armour as well as mortals, I think it works scalewise.
vemI1CH.jpg

Also something I forgot to post, a better look at the ol' Praetor now that his base is complete.

Cheers!

I was going to ask for a comparison shot of your terminators next to your standard marines.
I'm planning on using primaris marines for my chaos warriors and don't want my terminators looking small and weedy by comparison so this looks like a good solution.

Some excellent stuff here mate. Cant wait to see more.
You consul is particularly inspired

Love your truescale- what thickness spacers do you use and how much taller are your Power armored marines than normal generic marines?

EDIT: To clarify...some of the Mk IV legs don't look like they're based terminator ones, and I'm curious how you converted the "mini" Marines like the sergeants/masters of signal or the Imperial space marine to the right scale? Are the termi-based ones legswaps with greenstuffing for kneepads?

It's all amazing, but I'm hoping to imitate your art-accurate style to be honest haha.

Pearson73: Thanks!
DuskRaider: I'm glad you like them!
hushrong: Thanks, it was fun to make and he has done his duty admirably on the field (though he did run away from a leviathan but what can you do... ).
Vairocanum: Cheers!
the emperor is scottish: There's loads of bits nowadays you can use to make even the terminators suitably bulky with little effort, like the Death Guard terminator box or gravis armoured primaris. Thanks!
Charlo: The bases are pretty straightforward. Black undercoat, dark brown and boltgunmetal here and there, let dry completely, mix pigment (I use Europe Dust and Standard Rust from MIG) and thinner and apply where seen fit, let dry, apply fixer. That's it. Terminator topknots are from old WHFB horses.
Ugolino: The spacers for the torso are 1mm thick. I'll give you some pics.
KrautScientist: Thank you!

And stuff for Ugolino. Had to hop on a time machine and go way back in my hard drive's archive, into a darker age, January of 2017 to be specific. This is the most specific stuff I could find, I've documented my progress pretty randomly.

Imperial Space Marine. The torso has a spacer in it, I've resculpted the belt and groin area as well as his thigh plates and added spacers to his shins, then sculpting over.
2UEIOTS.jpg

You are right in that my mk4 armour isn't a straight tartaros pair of legs as I worked on them quite extensively. Spacers in the torso as I've mentioned before, raise the torso a bit so it sits properly on the pelvis, resculpt plates and belt area, shave the legs up a bit, sculpt kneepads.
6d9SxoY.jpg

They worked allright with standard bits so I went with it. To be fair I'm not completely satisfied with the look as the greaves flare a bit too much for my liking and look a bit uncanny.

Here's an old one, a mockup for a mk3 I've used extensively on the Death Guard.

No new stuff for now, just wanted to answer some of your questions. Seeing as Forge World is doing away with some of the Horus Heresy range, I've been wanting to bulk my tactical squads a bit so I might as well grab some new bits and try and take proper pics when I get to it.

As a bonus I did find something fun while browsing my images. Here's the little guy that started this whole mess, my paint test for the army. I took the colour scheme straight from Kizzdougs' tutorial so thanks again bud. :smile.:

Yeah, I would see myself out of the room if challenged by a large, walking behemoth. He probably had better things to do anyways.

I also love seeing tru/art-scale tutorials. Would love to try and do it again but on a small scale of minis like for SWA or KT. Heck, maybe Heralds of Ruin...

Kordhal: Thanks!
Ugolino: 1mm as I said. :smile.:

Long time no post, but finally I got to rattle the can again and bring some stuff closer to finish and today I have some treats. But first some shots from our last game.

Tizca's walls were tried, but they stayed strong. A match of SW&DG vs. TS, Mechanicum & Solar Auxilia ended up in a victory for the three defenders.

pjGIsjY.jpg

What was left after round 5.
YJOtDlk.jpg

The game was fun nonetheless, though I must admit in a deployment like this, the slowness of the Death Guard becomes a true disatvantage even with mechanised sections. Anyway, on to modelling endeavours.

The contemptor now has a lick of primer to show the details better.
16IuKER.jpg

The death lord himself has now arrived. I wanted to do something special with the pose, so I took inspiration from John Blanche's Mortarion. He is now letting the light of the lantern shine in the world.

cJTGYGh.jpg
CmJkk7T.jpg

Now what is Mortarion without his trusted retinue no more than 49 paces from their liege.
OpPCwzv.jpg
PgxW0kx.jpg

But wait, there's more! I figured since I got a bunch of bits already, what if instead of 2 I needed 5... The style of the armours seen here is closer to the Tartaros mark to distinquish them a bit from the two 'prime' bodyguards. I really liked the brutal style of this particular plague marine helmet so I wanted to incorporate it into the army somehow, et voila.

Lastly a Rapier laser destroyer joins the armoury.

Can't wait to get cracking with these models.
C&C welcome as always, thanks for looking.

Love those bodyguards, especially how the increased size makes them almost the same height as Mortarion. I’ve never liked how out of scale the FW primarchs seemed, like using Inquisitor minis, and this solves the problem beautifully. I also really like the repose on Mortarion, it’s very characterful. Great update!

Loved seeing more paint on your Death Guard followed up by awesome shots of battle. Then I was nodding my head checking out the sweet repose you gave mortarion. That is a solid look!

Then I lost my mind seeing him with his bodyguard. They look phenomenal with their liege. Awesome work rewinding the clock in the 40k mini and making it look hard as nails for the Heresy! The others look great as well but hot damn do the prime bodyguards look awesome!

Naryn: Thanks!
hushrong: Hard for Heresy! Cheers. :biggrin.:
Vairocanum: Thanks!

Long time since last update, I moved, got engaged and had a summer vacation so I've been a bit busy elsewhere.
Before I left for vacation I did manage to start work on some Word Bearer models, as well as have a great game against my friend's World Eaters.
You can find his stuff and some great battle shots here and here. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348961-true-scale-world-eaters-33rd-planetary-assault-segment/ & http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/347251-xv-legion-true-scale-project/

Here's some stuff.
Gal Vorbak and Dark Apostle are in the works.
14fqISG.jpg
F2tQy3d.jpg

I wasn't satisfied with the look of the axes on my Veterans so I toned them down in both style and size to fit the legion better. I used old plastic dwarf axes with a bit of brass and wire.

That's it for now, hope to post more real soon.
Cheers. :)

Congrats on the engagement!

As for Heresy, it’d be a dream to play. I have my Emperor’s Children partially ready to jump to HH 3rd Company. Personally I love the sound of commander.

Must also say Word Bearers and updated weapons look great! You did a lot of just for that dark apostle mini. Also looking forward to more battle reports from you and mekol!

Bjorn Firewalker: Thanks!
hushrong: Cheers! Deffinately get on board the Heresy train. New games are also sure to come as we've restarted the Isstvan campaign.
Charlo: Many thanks! The face grill was a simple sculping job.

I've been huffing thinner for a few nights, but have now managed to base all the troops that I've painted so far. Today I cracked open a beer and stopped to wonder what it is exactly that takes away such a great chunk of my free time and interest. First pictures I took of this project are dated May 31st of 2016 and I've been at it ever since in a speed blind fervour so let's have a look at what's been accomplished.

s1IiEH6.jpg

I took to the side some of the models that I saw still had cleanups or detailwork missing here and there, the top row of models is still waiting for their pigment fixer to dry.

j2o0NEz.jpg

What I have planned to finish the project so far:

Mortarion hisself
7 Deathshroud terminators

Apothecary
3 Rapier quad mortars
Rapier laser destroyer
2 Contemptors and their armaments

2 Rhino transports
Land Raider MK2b
Land Raider Proteus
Legion Medusa for the deployment of glorious phosphex terror

To top it all off, what is an army without a super heavy vehicle to exclaim the will of the Warmaster.
I managed to acquire this OOP Forgeworld Baneblade from ages past and I think it will fit the Legion's affection for old and durable quite well.

Anyway that's it for now, C&C is appreciated as always, cheers.

Luna707: Thank you! I also think you're absolutely right about the money shot.
MikhalLeNoir: I'm glad you like them!

Lazy weekend so I managed to touch up what I had on the table.
Sorry for the harsh lighting, it's night time by now and the table lamp can be cruel.
Oh and don't worry, all the bases will get a clean up of black on the edges later.

Veterans and specialists.

GL7y1td.jpg
qDjDtLt.jpg

I also pretty much finished the Legion standard bearer. I took a risk and made the icon a tad more interesting shade of brass and applied some verdigris on the whole thing to make it look suitably ancient and taken through all sorts of hostile and corrosive environments. I didn't have any white spray at hand, so the pack is still missing but I'm planning on using the Hellbrecht one as it fits quite nicely.

Thanks for looking.
