Help me build a starter list for a friend (1000-1250 points)

Greetings!

 

I'm trying to convince a friend to join the Heresy, and we are planning to play a small encounter, 1000-1250 points or so. He usually plays 40k (and many other non-related games), and is a bit confused on the sea of possibilities. I want to help him out, and give some advices, but it is always a bit difficult, as I'm also often uncertain how to run my Iron Hands too.

It would be great, if I could show him the differences between the traditional 40k and 30k, but I need some help in tailoring a list for him. When I asked him, which Legions he would like to play, he told me either the Night Lords or the Emperor's Children.

 

So, I'm here and asking for the help of the sons of the Phoenician and the Dark King, to help me out with some fun-to-play lists. It would be great if they would have one or two Legion-specific units to, or units which are not to be found in the 40k settings. As I'm not as informed in these Legions playstyle as one might think I would be grateful to have some tips from the veterans.

 

I will take my massive IH infantry horde (~40 marines) with dreads.

 

Unfortunately I only have the "old" Red Book, so I'm missing some of the newer toys and rules :-(

The Terror Assault for NL is really good. Here's a draft:

Leoric, good call helping your friend! I hope you will have a nice play. Take a look at that list from Maximvs, on small points game it's a great list with unique NL troops and wargear, awesome command squad with chainglaves for conversion and a Leviathan, which have awesome model and is tough target. Allround awesome list.
