Welcome to what I hope will be a long running thread. The WIP's and batreps for this army will be in a Chaos Forum Thread linked in my signature:

Here comes the first batch.... please be patient but these date back to December. Please realize my main goal is to have good table top quality. The more time that passes, I prefer to get armies playable rather than spend gobs of time on a model and never have anything playable! So let's see how far I can get!

Wish me luck as I head to 1850 and beyond...

med_gallery_2760_12702_183026.jpg

+ I really don't like painting vehicles... So close to complete... let's just go with 'completed'.

med_gallery_2760_12702_488034.jpg

+ An in game shot but what the heck, it's a cool mat right?

gallery_2760_12702_154771.jpg

+ Another in game shot. Ahirman gets busy while an Exalted tries the old 'Look! a dead bird over there'; an ancient Prospero distraction technique.

gallery_2760_12702_428618.jpg

+ Scarab Occult Terminators! Now with 33% less Dust!+

gallery_2760_12702_343038.jpg

+ Dust Bunnies in the flesh... err, whatever. Still terrible rules, but fantastic models!+

More to come.....!

Thanks for checking this out,

Amazing stuff, Prot!  Your consistency is impressive on everything you do, and I love the way the blue came out on your TS.  It's a unique look that really suits the sorcerous nature of the army.

Out of curiosity, why do you hate painting vehicles?

Thank you very much for the compliment!

Why do I hate painting vehicles?

I'm immature and when I'm painting the dudes they feel like they have a story. I have caught myself making faces, and making stupid noises while painting all my dudesmen. Some have won great battles, some really need more training, and some couldn't bend a spoon with their strongest spell, but still.... I enjoy them all.

The vehicles? Since I name most of them "First Blood", I can't say I'm ever really that fired up to paint them. ;)

Ok, you owe me for a new keyboard.

Beautiful, beautiful  army. I really don't ever see me playing this army, but just looking at your figures and how nicely they look really makes me want to paint some of them sometime.

Then tie them to a stake and burn them with a flamer. :)

Hehe...thanks. Actually they're reall hard to play efficiently.

I personally love their background but part of what attracted me is it feels my meta is so anti marine I got sick of picking up handfuls of models and just packing them up. These guys might be overcosted, but I always ( well almost always) get a save!

Thank you. I actually don't own any of that particular terrain. This was at a local event at a GW store.

The dust bunnies are difinitely the lowest performing aspect of a codex that's got some inherent challenges. They did some interesting (albeit quirky) stuff with the Scarab Terminators, making the Rubrics really puzzling. I literally would never take them if the War Cabal didn't force it.

So, I have bought the Ahriman model from the Prospero box for cheap on ebay. Would you say it is aesthetically alright if I painted him blue? Although, maybe painting him red would make him a nice® eye-catcher... Is it alright that he wears his MKIII (?) armour and not Amon's armour?

I really don't see any problem with that. He's definitely Ahriman, and looks the part.

I think they did a great job showing the transition of his noble background to something that's been altered by a bitter Heresy, but both models are great. But I would recommend you get him a disk if you can.

I should learn to stop looking at your stuff because it really makes me want to do a feeble impersonation with my own Sons - but I haven't even got a second squad of my CSM finished yet so it's an indulgence that makes no sense :P From the weathering to the bases your models just pop :D

Well, maybe I can just paint up one model. To test the colour scheme of course...

Amazing work! And yes, the Tzaangor Sorcerers are also a very nice looking models. My plan is to get ten more Rubrics. That would give me:

1x 30K Ahriman

3x Exalted Sorcerers

20x Rubric Marines

5x Scarab Occult Terminators

1x Maulerfiend/Forgefiend (magnetised)

1x Heldrake

1x Helbrute

50x Cultists

25x Blue Horrors

25x Brimstone Horrors

After I have painted the Rubrics I'll either get more Termis or go for some Tzaangors. And for the Tzaangor formation a Tzaangor sorcerer would be nice so I might buy that guy! :D But for disks only I find them too expensive and for me three Tzaangor sorcerers would be a "waste" since I can't use their models (I'm a player, not a collector).

This has always been true, even since 2nd edition:

  • 1 month later...

Finally finished Magnus.

I will be 100% honest with you guys. I messed his head up badly. I didn't understand how the horns fit together, and by the time I realized it's a very... tweaky fit, I didn't like how the glue on his head had somewhat damaged the skin. So I was thinking this is a very expensive model... so I sourced out the head from a bitz dealer on Ebay.

That was one delay. The truth is I was intimidated by doing him, and then I ended up really sick of him. lol

I mean I confess I do not paint my stuff for painting awards... I paint to play and changed the way I look at painting stuff because I love playing as much as anything and I think this is how I have so many armies painted up.

That being said here's some pics:

gallery_2760_12702_96737.jpg

Unfortunately I realize these pics aren't great. I'll try to get better ones. His tabards don't show the work... a lot of it doesn't, but hopefully most of the work shows.

gallery_2760_12702_334467.jpg

+ His wings were a solid week plus of labour. I wanted to paint two of these guys intending to sell one... no way. lol

gallery_2760_12702_321288.jpg

+ So I managed to blow this one up to show the muscle striations. I took some artistic liberties here mimicing my comic art days, and exagerrated the muscle fibres. This took way too long and I wouldn't do it again, but I'm glad it turned out okay.

Thanks for looking guys!

Bonus Shot!

I have a batrep I'm posting featuring Magnus and...... " Lil'Magnus".

Two wild and crazy, one eyed guys have a night on the town and Tau get in the way....

First off I finished these for a tournament so here's the Daemon part which I don't plan to do too much more of:

Close up:

Herald of Tzeentch (I used an enlightened Tzaangor because I'm not a fan of the Herald model and this seemed more fitting to me. (I put him on a Disk for aesthetic reasons, but I rarely play him that way.)

gallery_2760_12702_378917.jpg

There are other Daemon models I own but I may be getting close to selling this project as it draws conclusion... but if I keep it I would do some of the stuff Magnus can summon... Can't remember the name of the dude on the chariot. lol And the manta ray things but we'll see. :)

As far as dudes that can split I don't want to be 'that guy' so I've stopped at this. I can split no more! :)

Also I'm more a Thousand Sons fan than Tzeentch daemons so this seems like a good dose for my army. Plus I gotta be honest these guys can really wear on you after painting a box of blues/brimstones!

Thanks for checking it out.

With better lighting I thought it'd be a good opportunity for a few better pics of Magnus showing off his flaws as well as the musculature stuff I mentioned earlier.

gallery_2760_12702_535467.jpg

Unfortunately the brightness kind of made his tattoo a bit too bright and you can't see the detail in it... but otherwise I think this is a good angle for the big man!

gallery_2760_12702_189906.jpg

Glowy Klopesh Speary thingy:

gallery_2760_12702_133204.jpg

If you've read my Battle Reports on the forum with my Thousand Sons you probably know I refer to him as my 'Peacock from hell'. The feathers are very time intensive but I think this is where we can personalize him the most. I went with black detail inside, and a wider contrast in colours from tip to inner, reaching black in the middle and almost white on the tips. Female Peacocks find him quite hard to ignore at the Disco.

Perhaps a better shot of the muscularity:

Thank you for looking!
