New Sisters Novel Up For Pre Order

It's not out yet, but you can pre order it. I'm looking forward to this book and I hope that the Sororitas are the point of view characters. I'm also pleased that it's a new type of foe, too.

Cult of the Warmason, Sisters v Genestealer Cult.

"On the shrine world of Lubentina, one of the holiest planets of the Imperium, dedicated to a hero from the Age of Heresy, civil unrest and rumours of sinister, four-armed monsters spur the Sisters of Battle into action against numberless foes."

"The Sisters of Battle of the Adepta Sororitas are thrown into action as a devastating alien threat brings warfare to one of the holiest worlds of the Imperium."

In a galaxy teeming with alien aggressors, nothing unites the Imperium more than the worship of the immortal God-Emperor. Without the shining light of his divinity, travel through the stars would not be possible, and humanity would be swallowed by darkness. The shrineworld of Vadok attracts billions of pilgrims who visit to reaffirm their faith, and catch a glimpse of the sacred relic held in its great cathedral. But the reach of man’s enemies is long, and when civil unrest breaks out, and rumours of four-armed monsters abound, the Adepta Sororitas tasked with defending the world must face the fight of their lives. For they are few, but their enemies are numberless.

Oooh! wub.gif

I haven't read anything by the author though. Any opinions on their other work (constructive ones only please =][=)

Yeah, it would be nice if the book recognized that not every Sister is from the Order of Our Martyred Lady or some minor order :D

This looks interesting. I wish there was a Sister on the cover though. I'm going to wait on reviews before making a purchase.

Order of the Solemn Vow, iirc. Something like that. I read the extract last night. They apparently have red and black armour, with 'black silks'. The Sister Superior's adornments are gold.

I don't mind Minor Orders. I like to imagine most of them as an extension of their parent Order (to some extent and only headcanon) and that there are lots of them. So this is fine.

However I'd prefer to see the Major Orders get some love, besides OML. Argent Shroud and Sacred Rose particularly.

I have to admit, my immediate reaction to this novel was that it was a Genestealer Cults piece that happened to feature Sisters (like "Genestealer Cults" and "Cast a Hungry Shadow" before it).

I'm curious to see how it turns out.

Well, at least Argent Shroud was featured in Helsreach, even if only in a minor role. Definitely wouldn't mind more of a spotlight feature!

Good to see this book coming up though, might have to snatch it as an eBook if people give favorable opinions on it.

Looks ... interesting. I hope we are not the random trash mob needed to 'survive and be heroic' just to give GSC a new book. I whole heartedly agree though with above, I'll wait for the reviews.

Aquilanus, why would you not want to hear negative reviews?! What if the author is famous for destroying the narative, or flat boorish characters? Ugg, pop-my bubble with a power sword.

So, my initial inquiry into author C L Werner is thus: he has 10 warhammer books with a heavy skaven & chaos theme listed on his website (bellow) but Amazon has 24, so he's perhaps not "proud" of all of them. A couple of them were 40k, he was a skaven player before going pro, and his website http://www.vermintime.com/ has some free exert pdf's you can get and read for a taste of his style. I read the bit from Forged By Chaos and it was about as middle-ground fantasy/violent as you can get. Seems like a dime store book you get with a Warhammer theme. But that was an older work of his and he may have improved. Some of the Amazon reviews reflect both an author slowly getting better at character development and as I guess from his pdf free read, boring.

Verdict, wait for it but probably not going to get it.

I meant constructive criticism. I have no problem with negative reviews as long as they're backed up with a decent argument. Merely saying "This sucks!" Is not constructive.

Did anyone actually read the extract lol?  Seems like the book will feature Battle Sisters from the Order of the Sombre Vow.  From what I gathered, it seems like their colour scheme is mainly black.  The main character is a Battle Sister called Kashibai, and it seems that she and all the other Sisters mentioned in the extract are of Hindu ethnicity.  Story wise, it seemed like fairly standard bolter-porn (well technically flamer-porn as Kashibai carries a flamer) with the Battle Sisters travelling down a mining tunnel to rescue some militia forces cut off by a heretical cult uprising...

I did, posted about it above. :)

The armour is apparently black and red, with gold ornamentation on the Sister Superior, and black robes.

No Sisters artwork for the book cover? That's annoying, who wants ugly xenos on their bookshelf? :P

I shall wait for a few reviews before committing, which is fine as I don't have the time or money to get it right now anyway. If it's good I'll nab it along with a couple other BL books I want :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Just a reminder that this is available for purchase now.

I'm four chapters in at the time of writing, and will probably finish it tonight, and I can gladly say that it isn't just bolter-porn, at least beyond that opening chapter. The Sisters are of an Order bound to guard the relics held within the foremost cathedral on the major Shrine World of Lubentina and as a result the opening scene is an exception rather than the rule. There's more than a little politics to this, with our protagonist partaking in meetings with the Councillors advising the Cardinal-Governor, and ... honestly I'm not really sure how much I should say about anything, even if it's all pretty innocuous.

There are certainly more than a few familiar tropes on display, but it seems interesting enough thus far. The "Warmason" business in particular has me very much intrigued as, contrary to what you might first assume, it appears to have nothing to do with the Genestealer Cult.

Edit: All I'm going to say is that this story goes in a direction that you definitely won't be expecting. That isn't any judgement on whether it's a good or bad direction, just that it isn't something you'd expect in the slightest from the given summary.

Edit the second: Honestly ... I'm profoundly disappointed with this. Not the quality so to speak, but it feels like a massive (and somewhat cruel) bait-and-switch.

Heh. Yeah, it probably looks that way.

I'm kinda skirting around spoilers here, but I don't think C.L Werner actually wanted to write this story. That's not to suggest a lack of quality or effort but that it comes across as if he had a story he wanted to tell and was only able to get permission to do so by attaching it to the skeleton of another project. The shape of the novel changes radically after the fourth chapter for reasons you could never possibly guess from the description, and it honestly ends up feeling like the plot of a separate short story was bolted onto the outline for Cult of the Warmason and eventually took precedence because Warner was playing favourites.

Do you guys actually want spoilers (tagged, obviously) or should I avoid that sort of thing until some more of you have had a chance to read it?

I would like to have spoilers, if only because I am not sure if I want to get this. First instinct was "More Sisters! Huzzah!" But then your descriptions have...soured this for me.

Ultimately, do as He-on-Earth bids you.

Spoiler tags are a given if describing the book in any detail smile.png

I'm hesitant to get it now I've read the reaction of Brightstar to be honest. If it isn't really bad, I'll pick it up, mainly as it features 'Stealer Cults. Way back when, I used have a Rogue Trader Era/Second edition Cult army laugh.png
