Gathering Storm 3 Lore (spoilers)

Guys, I've started reading the book.
I'm about 30 pages in.

We have a LOT to discuss. I'll wait a few days before I start discussing the details in order to give the rest of us a chance to catch up, but HOLY EMPEROR some craziness goes down.

Fellow Ultramarines, don't delay. Get the book and buy the Primarch. This is our moment.

I'll suggest this. A lot of the revelations and leaks aren't presented in a way that flatters the book.

For example, Sete from this forum was angry that a Black Templar Marshall kneels before Marneus Calgar. The book actually explains that everyone has to show respect because they have arrived in Ultramar un-invited and through questionable means.

I do suggest people read it as opposed to reading summaries online, which is why I'm not going to start discussing things until people have had a chance to. A lot does change very quickly though!

Do they explain how Guilliman got ahold of the Emperor's Sword?

Yeah, he took it up as a symbol of office when he became Lord Commander during the scouring in 30k.

Ok, so the story and spoilers are out. The first thing I'd like to discuss is (I'm on my phone, can't add Tags)...

***

*****SPOILERS*****

***

So, Guilliman re-united the 500 Worlds of Ultramar, and literally unwinds the decree of separating the Empire of Ultramar as one of his first acts.

Not only that, but he is directly leading forces from successor chapters and they have all pledged their services for the Primarch.

In short, within the first 40 pages of the story, Ultramar is being restored to it's Heresy-Era glory (almost completed I might add), and Guilliman is in command of 600k Marines, even the likes of the Mortifactors are unquestioningly on-board.

Reading that definitely left an impression. I was surprised they moved so quickly to establish these massive changes. How do we all feel about that?

600 Chapters. No one fielded that sort of centralized power since the Heresy. Good thing Gman is the one in charge, lest heresy hits the fan real fast.

As for the changes, I like that he is doing action. With the wound up buerocracy the Imperium is suffering under, they need a leader who can shake this whole system awake and get things done.

I am really excited right now, I want to squee and jump up and down like a little girl. Seeing as I want to keep some integrity though, I will instead give my solemn approval and wipe away one lone and utterly manly tear.

Told my store owner to save me a Gman box. I guess it hobby time again :P

Is Cassius dead? He doesn't show up in the Dramatis Personae that GW leaked the other day. You'd think that he'd be involved in the reorganization of Ultramar, if only to be that voice saying, "What about the tyranids?"

*****SPOLIERS*****

What I'm most upset about is the loss of the Maccrage's Honour to the Red Corsairs. One of the only, if not the only, Gloriana class ships in the whole Imperium lost. The ship that carried Marius Gage, the ship that survived 10,000 years with the Ultramarines just...gone. I'm glad that it served its purpose but I feel this is a loss the Ultramarines cannot recover from since Glorianas cannot be built anymore.

So, in the grand scheme of things they traded the ship for the return of their Primarc. I can dig it. Besides, with the G man kicking butts across the for everyone to wake up, maybe the Mechanicus will pull their hads out of their collective buttocks and actually invent something :P

I was really upset at the loss of Macragge's Honour. That was a legendary ship, the book confirmed it was the same one.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a story about how the Ultras recover it later on down the line.

Cassius isn't mentioned, btw.
