Adeptus Custodes (Pics of my first 10 Talons of the Emperor)

Initially I just had the five Custodes from the Burning of Prospero set but I recently picked up a second set off of someone else who bought the box but didn't want them. As Forge World continues to release resin kits for the Talons of the Emperor I'm becoming increasingly tempted to build a small army of the Adeptus Custodes. Part of that temptation has been painting these first ten Custodes and I am extremely pleased with how they have turned out. Using the Retributor Armor spray and then washing it with Seraphim Sepia the result is a nice, rich and detailed gold that really makes for impressive models on the tabletop and is very easy and quick to do. I'm also interested to see what options and rules are given for the Custodes in 40k that are coming out in the next couple of weeks.

Anyway here are the pics, the quality isn't great as these are taken from my phone and in poor lighting, the first is without the flash and the remaining have the flash on just so you can hopefully see the color and detail under something approximating proper light.

I chose to build five with spears and five with sentinel blades and shields, hopefully I'll be able to pick up the event only Tribune in the next couple months and I want to swap his bare head and left arm with bits from the plastic kit. I also chose to give one model in each squad a cape indicating the Shield Captain as outlined in the 40k rules rather than the 30k rules which don't seem to have squad leaders in standard Custodes units. I'm saving adding an Aquila until the third squad at the earliest.

So what do you guys think of this early start to a Custodes force?

Looks great! The models are growing on me and i like how you did the gold.

Just two nitpicks: i think the fladh shows the unpainted gray in their backpack exhausts. Is that noticable i. Regular light? Also, i think the red around the edges of the bases are distracting from the rest of the model.

Other than that, looks really good!

Actually the vents are silver, the flash kinda hides that I used a blue wash on the silver soft armor and back vents to match the silver wash on the blades. I did want to pick out a few parts of their armor in silver but I didn't go as far as GW in picking out the faceplates and some of the ornamentation in silver, or in doing red on the shoulder plates.

As for the bases, yea I've gotten that comment from others as well and I agree, I'm not sure what to replace it with, a simple tan/brown maybe? I usually use warpstone glow green/snot green on my base rims and that needs to get toned down too.
