Vulkan Lives! - Converting the new Guilliman model

Hi all, been a few months since I last posted anything on here but I've still been active in the hobby non the less.

I've come back with the intention of building a Demi-battle company but before that I thought I'd start with Vulkan himself circa m41

First of all I needed to take care of the Ultramarines chapter symbol on the shoulder pads with a bit of greenstuff work:

Then, seeing as the base model has an overabundance of aquillas as it is I made a little change to the chestplate with a small Wolf skull and some greenstuff horns:

Then gave him a bit of a shave :p and also (not pictured) removed the laurel wreath

Then, a small addition to the Iron halo that comes with the kit using parts from the torches

I then added a drakescale cloak made from greenstuff and shaved off a few details such as the symbol on the knee pad, the number 13 on the belt and the purity seal on his chest plate.

I also decided not to include the giant eagle thing on the backpack as I think it made everything a bit too busy.

And here's it all painted up, I've gone with a sort of blue lava for the base, (something I'll be carrying over to the rest of the army) for something a bit different to what I'm used to doing

Perhaps I'm biased (look where we all are...), but that looks *so* much better than the base/standard Guilliman. Incredibly well done; I love it.

WOW!!! That. Is. Beautiful. Fantastic work, I envy your ambition and your green stuff skills. Plus the paint job is fantastic, especially the flaming sword. If it only were a hammer....

I'll be leaving it there once completed for the time being as the project I've got going on in the Liber is taking up a lot of time (a strike force is a lot to do when starting from scratch XD)

If you field him alongside Vulkan He'stan are you going to swap out He'stan's left arm?

 

They can't BOTH be wielding Vulkan's artefact flamer.

I won't be fielding him the same time as he'stan (although it could be that he has made a mini version for himself after vulkan came back XD

Decided to add some little greenstuff details; after all, wouldn't be Salamanders without a touch of bling XD

And another squad, the special weapons marine is proudly welding nocturne's fury; made possible with a little greenstuff :)

And finally a little army shot of what I've got so far, with added drop pod that I forgot to take a solo pic of.

And that's it for now, in the meantime I've got a homebrew chapter strikeforce to finish. If you get the time, or just happen to be browsing in the Liber, look up the Knights Obstinate and let me know what you think so far.

Thanks very much guys, I hope to re-edit the salamanders soon now my Liber challenge is done, the only thing I now need to decide is do I add the primaris marines to my home-brew chapter or do I add them to my salamanders?
