The Carnival of Rot: Circus themed Nurgle gang (May 9)

++The Carnival of Rot++

They came from the shadows

with a laugh and a grin

And sang to the man

enticing him in

“Roll up Roll up”

they merrily cried

“Prepare yourself

for a marvelous ride”

The clowns bounced around,

a dance and some flips

He watched them confused

then reached for his hip

His pistol was missing

“Who are you?” he snapped

Not noticing the Ringmaster

now at his back

The Ringmasters dagger

plunged into his lung

“The Carnival of Rot,

we're here to have fun”

This is going to be my WIP thread for my circus themed Nurgle kill team for Shadow War Armageddon
As someone who finds it hard to paint big (or even medium armies) because I get bored painting similar models over and over again, Shadow War has been a godsend for me. I can finally have a entire force that has been converted and kitbashed to hell biggrin.png
The fluff behind them is basically a gang of circus performers and freaks who fell to nurgle, and kidnap people to be their audience. Their show is basically a ritual sacrifice of the audience to Nurgle (with a bit more juggling and backflips) msn-wink.gif

Here's the first model: The Juggler

I'm going to have as many cultists as possible, which apparently is half the force as I learnt today at my local GW. Still figuring out exactly how they'll be armed, but I need to wait until the rulebook comes out.
I don't have high hopes but i'll be doing my best attempt at Blanchitsu.

C&C greatly appreciated

More to come soon.....

That's an impressive start. Looks like cultist legs with a Catachan command torso and a genestealer cult head? Works really well. Do you plan on waiting for the nurgle cultists to be released, or finish before that?

Keep up the good work.

Thanks, That's pretty spot on with the bits. :)

As for the nurgle cultists not sure. Guess it depends on how quickly i work. But i can always change heads or whatever later, Or update them, or just have some spares for if I do a long campaign and my force needs to be expanded

Did some green stuff today

They both still have quite a lot of work left. I'm pretty happy with how my GS skills are coming along, slowly getting better at the small details. smile.png

That being said I think some of my ideas are quite ambitious, but I guess all I can do is try and if my sculpting skills aren't up to it, then try something else

I really like your Jester, and I guess it was just a matter of time before the Nurgle Lord turned up. He's pretty much a requirement by this point if you want to get into Blanchitsu. :p

Keep up the good work.

Quick Update, almost finished the clown :)

http://i.imgur.com/4IDSpvz.jpg

just got to finish his weapon, as you can see he's got a siamese twin on his stomach, trying to figure out if both faces should have clown make up or not.

Also made a start on the Ringmaster

http://i.imgur.com/2zZpGIn.jpg

Because his body is long, but no wider than normal, I've also extended the legs and arms so he's really lanky, might give him a slightly long creepy neck too. Here's his back pack/power pack/whatever its called:

I planned on putting up a blurb about each character with the finished painted pictures in the style of the first post, But the Ringmaster one ended up being all in first person so the 3 that I've written so far have turned into sort of intro songs that they might sing when they go on stage. I like consistency so they're probably all gonna be like that, which I think will be fun. :D

Blades: The Juggler

"Great Papa has blessed me

I'm filled with disease

So I can be vile

and do as I please

I'll put on a show

and juggle my knives

If you don't pay attention

I'll stab out your eyes"

Pretty happy with him, got all the colours for the gang all figured out now, I really don't think I could paint any better than this, although my photography needs to improve.

I've done some more work on The Ringmaster and The Fool

Exccellent! I love the jester and of course Kuato! msn-wink.gif

Thanks, I haven't seen total recall forever and had to actually look up that name smile.png But, yeah, i guess he's pretty similar

Looks great so far. I recon the clown needs to have both faces in makeup to make the second stand out and for extra creep.

Thanks, Yeah I'm thinking the same, I'm about half way through painting him and the face definitely needs something to make it stand out a bit more

Pimples & Pox: The 2-Headed Clown

“My name is Pimples

so glad that you're here

I'll fill you with dread

and I'll fill you with cheer

I'll make you laugh

and I'll make you smile

I'll make you putrid

and covered in bile”

“My name is Pox

though I'm just a face

I'll make you laugh

then spit blood in your face

Prepare yourself

for the 2 headed clown

In The Carnival of Rot

the best show in town”

I'm liking how these are coming along now, I think I've got the right balance of circus brightness and 40k grimdark, thoughts?

His hammer will probs just count-as a combat blade, not really sure.

Also pretty much finished the Ringmaster

Just need to do a bit of GS work on the face and a few little details smile.png

Noxious Joe: The Ringmaster

“Hello, my friend

you're finally awake

You're bound and gagged

so you can't escape

You can't clap your hands

so please tap your feet

For “The Carnival of Rot”

You're in for a treat

We like to practice

and we try our best

But it's always better

when we have a guest

We'll jump and dance

and frolic it's true

And when it's all over

we're going to kill you

Now don't be alarmed

but you wont die quick

You're going to die

all bloated and sick

Oh Papa we give you

this hapless wreck

Show him the joy

of Pestilence and Death!

As I pop this pimple

pus drips on your head

You're blood starts to burn

and you're hair starts to shed

Great Papa will love you

your now rancid skin

But sit back and relax

the shows about to begin”

Here's some more shots (These are the slightly better ones: April 28)

The idea is that he's beckoning someone to come closer (I hope that comes across). I'm really happy with him and the detail I put into him, I think he's terrifying enough to lead The Carnival of Rot. I also really like his weapon, which I feel needs a name.....hmmm. unsure.png

Unfortunately the photos don't really do it justice, could anyone recommend a good photo tutorial on the super super cheap?

Also, because his body is longer than normal I extended his legs, and then thought it would look good if his neck was longer as well, this all adds up to make him really really tall, here he is next to the rest of them.

http://i.imgur.com/T0l13wV.jpg

I haven't seen any primarch models in person, but I feel like there about this size. I guess Nurgle has blessed him with height as well as disease msn-wink.gif

Some bits arrived today, I've made a start on a few more, but nothing really worth taking photos of yet.

C&C appreciated!

Thanks everyone

Excellent work! I really like the ringmaster (with the symbol of Nurgle being three circles....three rings if you will, it gives his title even more meaning).

I hope this can help:
Taking good photos with a mobile smile.png

You know, I hadn't actually thought of that haha :)

Yeah I have read your tutorial before, but it doesn't really work for me, I guess my house lighting is pretty crap, and sunlights out as we're coming into winter here and it's been overcast all week. That being said I managed to sort of trick my camera into using the flash without blowing the lighter parts of the model, I updated the pictures of the ringmaster to some better ones I took!

Something I hope you could make is a Jester juggling poison apples, grenades, servo-skulls or various Xenos and Loyalist heads.

You'd have to make a background, like a wall or lamp post, for the third skull or whatever to be in the "air". You'd even be able to potentially magnetize each piece so you could swap them out to whatever when you want to as warranted (Eldar heads when facing Yvraine and Co., Melta bomb if equipped, poison apples for some Sisters, etc.) It'd be a hell of a hobby project but totally worth it.

Edit: Not telling you what to do! I just think your creativity just spurred my imagination when I looked at it again.

Mr. Maggot: The Fool

“I'm a bit crazy

and I'm a bit cursed

My blisters and sores

are ready to burst

I'll trip and I'll fall

I won't care at all

I'm Mr. Maggot

the best fool of all”

Thanks for all the support guys!! biggrin.png

The colours came out a bit brighter than originally planned but I think it works. I'm glad I've figured out how to take better photos of the models.

This one has has the most detailed GS work I've done so far and I'm pretty happy with how my sculpting is coming along, especially with his maggot cream pie smile.png

Here is everyone so far

http://i.imgur.com/N31d7jX.jpg

They're a gang of extremes, The ringmaster is huge, but Mr. Maggot is actually quite short (slightly smaller than your average guardsman) but I think they're looking good!

Also here's 3 more that I've started...

http://i.imgur.com/iZHrEIp.jpg

The Bearded Lady, The Stilt Walker, The Mime.

Only 1 more to go and I'll have a 1000pt list, I'll post the list up when I can be bothered actually writing it out tongue.png

@Zodd1888 - Yeah, that does seem like one hell of a hobby project, I like it, but it'll definitely be something for WAY down the line, as I have an idea for another kill team I'm probably gonna start as soon as these guys are finished
