Ratling Sniper sculpting topic.

I was talking about veteran snipers in full ghillie suits and what type of heavy weapon would join them in their squad when all of a sudden, someone mentioned Ratling snipers.

(Original topic: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/332885-veteran-snipers-what-heavy-weapon/ ).

Unfortunately, I have limited my army to only miniatures made of resin or plastic (but including the odd metal or green stuff component) so the GW miniatures are of no use (they would also need a lot of converting)... that means I am going to sculpt some instead.

This is what I have started with:

... but I have progressed somewhat, since then.

I will post further WIP pictures soon...

At the moment I am sculpting tiny leaves... lots and lots of tiny leaves :D

I've seen mini green stuff leaf stamps / presses?

I hope youre using that!

No, I can't because they are too big. This little sniper is about 15mm tall... tiny leaves required.

It is one of those sculpts that will take a while because it is a case of sculpting a line of leaves, letting them dry and then sculpting the next line... the drying time takes a while.

It's a slow process but things are ticking along nicely now:

The rear is almost complete, then it will be the arms, then head and finally the rifle :)

The first one is finished and the second one is now on the cork :) . You will need to open the image in a new tab or something like that, for the 'actual size' image to be correct :) :

Cheers :) ... Normally a sniper would wear a ghillie suit but would wrap his rifle in camouflaged cloth or tape so I just assumed they would be different textures :) .

The next sniper is ticking along nicely:

Although I have been a little distracted by other sculpting lately, I have got quite far with the kneeling sniper. Only the head and rifle to go before he is finished (he's at the back, right of this image):

The Kromlech Dwarfs are great... but not my thing (they are to caricature in looks for me and don't fit with what I already have) .

In other news... I've started on the next 'Halfling' Sniper... :o :

The snipers have all had their basing tabs added:

They have been packed up and will be sent to my caster tomorrow, for casting in July/August (he's a busy chap). Once they are cast up, I will be able to sell some :) .

Work on the Ogre sniper continues, now that the Halflings have been sent off for casting. I have continued to bulk out the torso and add the muscle groups. It is almost a shame that all this will be covered over... but at least I have a good foundation to work on:

Next will be the lower back and then the feet and lower legs. Lots to do :) .

It appears that Photobucket is holding me to ransom. If I don't pay $399.99 a year, all of my photographs will remain as those photobucket place holders.

I will not be held to ransom so I will be looking for an alternative host. In the meantime, I apologise for the fact that all of my images are gone... and are unlikely to reappear.

I had no warning... the hosting update that apparently happened on 28th June has obviously come into effect. I now know why I have been seeing the place holders on so many forums.
