Sanguinary guard modelling/painting ideas

Apologies if this is already covered somewhere-if so please merge this post.

I'm looking to get some SG added to my army but for me they're a bit too blingy. I want my army to visually centre round Dante and the other HQ characters. Plus, most of my models are quite old now and from a time when we didn't get lots of extra gubbins to make them look all fancy.

I'm thinking of doing the SG without the wings to keep them more in line with my other guys.

Just looking for ideas/suggestions from what other people have done with their SG that isn't the stock paint/assembly scheme.

I can't find the picture I have of mine, but I used an ASM kit and just used arms/weapons and occasional bits from the SG kit as SG but then used the actual SG kits as HQs, because I agree they are too well decorated.

I stuck with traditional Gold sans the wings, and I personally think they look much better (without them!):

Like that idea thanks.

I'm sure someone did them in red with the wings. Gives me something to ponder anyway.

I didnt use the winged jump packs for mine, i put those to other characters and instead use FW Ashen Circle JP's

Spoilt for choice with ideas now. Really like those FW jump packs. Considering these with the Heresy era heads as well, not a fan of the SG standard heads to be honest

Which ones? You get 15 heads in the box :D

Most of them? Having said that I've never seen them in the flesh, only pictures, so I may get the box and decide they're actually awesome

The helmets from the Sanguinary Guard kits are pretty good IMO. I've used the Death Masks on mine and plan on using the helmets on other troops, probably Devastators. They are covered in Blood Angels icons, which is something I really like. It does make them take longer to paint, but they look great IMO.

I really like all of them. You get 5 death masks, 5 helmeted heads and 5 bare heads, all reasonably unique, and great for dispersing among other units.

The amazing thing about the DG/ DC kits is that they are basically bits box bloaters for BA players biggrin.png

I hope you meant SG as in Sanguinary Guard and not DG as in Death Guard, Charlo.... :D

Charlo, do you just buy whatever the newest release is?  If so, I don't blame you, I often want to.  I suppose this is why I had to set a very concrete hobby budget...

I went with a kit bash based on the Grey Knight bodies. They look nice and simply and once you get the -][- off of them can look pretty darn cool!

Great idea! Any pics?

God no....!

...Except a bit of Ad Mech.

I just get very swept up in the hype and enjoy talking tactics about the new armies!

I'd spent ages trying to decide on a legion, but knew I'd always regret what I chose once BA are out in full (unless they suck - unlikely with Sanguinius getting rules...) but when I saw the Talon's rule I jumped straight on them as YES CUSTODES.

You were washing Deathguard?

...well....i guess they needed it after all. biggrin.png

Heh heh heh.
