Void Hardened

I have a game of ZM this week and was just going over the Stratagems. I will probably take the Void Hardened Armour Stratagem which is on page 194 of Book Three, which gives a single unit the Void Hardened "rule". Now it is this rule that I cannot find, I looked at the Breacher unit entry which references the Void Hardened rule as being on page 173 of Book One...but its not there.

A few references to "Void Hardened" in the Legion and Solar Auxilia lists both refer to the ZM special rules...except it isn't in there, atleast not under the "Void Hardened" header. The only thing I can find is the "Cold Void & Poisoned Air" ruling, and that is about weapon effects like blasts...

At this point I assume "Void Hardened" is just the reroll to blasts etc from the Hardened Armour wargear without the negatives to run and sweeping etc but I can't be certain...

Yeah, that's weird. All I could see in Betrayal was that Void Hardened Armour makes you immune to the effects of the 'Cold Void & Poisoned Air' rule. So when attacks of strength 4 or higher would usually gain the 'rending' special rule Void Hardened Armour makes you immune to that rending.

  • 2 weeks later...

You can re-roll failed armour saves against blast amd template weapons and charge, run and sweeping advance rolls are reduced by 1.

That is the Breachers "Hardened Armour" wargear, Void Hardened is a rule onto itself. After re-reading the Cold Void ZM section it seems that Terminators come with Void Hardened as well given they have a 2+ save which came in handy in my game.

Void Hardened, as I understand it, for ZM is the ability to ignore "Super Rending" that goes on in Cold Void or Corrosive Atmosphere games.

The Solar Aux also have a version that lets them re-roll failed saves vs Blasts and Templates; yes, saves. Its been a while since me and Flint Chatted about it but from our readings it was pretty shenanigans-y.

"Void hardened armour: A model equipped with void hardened armour may re-roll failed saves made against weapons of either the Template or Blast type and reduces the distance rolled for Charges, Sweeping Advances and Run moves by 1". Note that void hardened armour does not bestow or modify a model’s armour save, and has some additional effects when playing a Zone Mortalis game (as noted in the Zone Mortalis rules)." And the original question was what are the rules in ZM, does it ignore Shred or the bonus strength from ZM weapons over Strength 4?

What you have quoted thete is the Breachers entry right? I can't find that in any Faq I've seen.

Edit: My mistake, I meant Rending.

Shred has nothing to do with the rules in question.

"Cold Void & Poisoned Air:

- All weapons and attacks with a S4 or higher one cause the RENDING effect unless their target has Hardened Armor or Void Hardened Armor, has an AV or has a save of 2+. In the case of attacks against mixed units, apply these rending wounds to the more vulnerable targets first.

- All weapons and attacks which already have the Rending effect now rend on a roll of 5 or 6, unless their target has Hardened Armor, has an AV or has a save of 2+. In the case of attacks against mixed units, apply these rending wounds to the more vulnerable targets first.

- Weapons and attacks which have the Blast special rule also now cause pinning if they don't already."

I would completely disregard the "Void Hardened Armor" but from the first bullet point. The only mention I can find is in the Legion Breacher Siege Squad where their Hardened Armor also "counts as being Void Hardened" in reference to the rule I quoted above.

This sounds like yet more circular logic from GW's rule "writers". That, or the "Void" bit was originally supposed to point to a different rule that never penned out much like the Breacher Siege Squad entry mentioning a special rule named, "Veteran Upgrade."
